James F. Manasco

James Flenoia Manasco, age 78, a resident of Umpire, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006 at his home.

He was born March 14, 1928 in Umpire to James Letus and Emma A. Schoolfield Manasco, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Umpire.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Neal Manasco and Reese Dee Manasco.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Strasner Manasco of Umpire; two sons, Jason Manasco and Todd Manasco, both of Umpire; one daughter, Mary Beth Patterson of Van Buren; one sister, Wanda Sirmon of Brandon, MS; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28 in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Umpire with Bro. Woody Larson and Bro. Don Vaughn officiating. Burial followed in the Bethel cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, Dierks.

Virginia Sue Neese

Virginia Sue Neese, age 37, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at her home.

She was born Oct. 30, 1968 in De Queen to James Edward Whitaker and Ima Dee Howard.

She is survived by her parents; her step-mother, Rebecca Whitaker; her children, April Denise Hobbs, James Edward Venable, Angela Dawn Bedford, Richard Jean Neese and Kristel Sue Howard; two sisters, Kimberly Ann Bailey of De Queen and Rebecca Lynn Holland of Idabel, Okla.; one brother, Robert Cunningham of Broken Bow, Okla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Chapel Hill cemetery with Rev. Coy Arnold officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family received friends Monday. Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Nazarene Church in De Queen on Highway 70-B.

Joe N. Barnhill Jr.

Joe N. Barnhill Jr., age 75, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 at his home.

He was born Jan. 18, 1931 in Chavez County, NM, to Joe N. Barnhill Sr. and Flora Turnbough Barnhill; was a retired Sevier County employee, and a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Lorece Young Barnhill on July 21, 1997.

He is survived by three sons, Joey Barnhill, Chuck Barnhill of Gillham, and Chris Barnhill of De Queen; one sister, Betty Nipper of Lockesburg; eight grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker and Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

John Jones, Jr.

John Carlton Jones, Jr., 56, of White Hall, died Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Arkansas Hospice Care Center in Little Rock.

Mr. Jones was born May 19, 1950, in Miami, Florida, to John Carlton Jones, Sr. and the late Mary Ross Naylor. He was reared and received his education in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he graduated from Baker High School. He also graduated from Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida.

Mr. Jones was a mechanical engineer for Washington Group International for 15 years, with his last assignment at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

Mr. Jones married Sherry J. Wells on October 28, 2000, in Hot Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Jones of White Hall; three sons, Brandon I. Jones of Wellington, New Zealand, Trenton N. Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, and Blake Beaton of White Hall; two daughters, Megan E. Jones of White Hall, and Carissa C. Beaton of Stuart, Florida; father, John C. Jones, Sr. of Orange City, Florida; a brother, David Jones of Moss Point, Mississippi; five sisters, Dianna Jones, Lori Jones, Nancy Naylor, Cheryl Naylor, and Lisa Naylor; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his mother.

The family received friends Tuesday, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Robinson's.

Funeral Services were scheduled for Wednesday, August 30, 2006, 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson with Reverend Tony Williams officiating. Interment was private.

Carol Kay Hedge Riley

Mrs. Carol Kay Hedge Riley, age 60, a resident of Wilburton, Okla., died Monday, August 21, 2006 at her residence.

She was born February 2, 1946 in Hatton Gap, Ark. to Grady and Lillie Lambert Hedge. She attended the Van-Cove school in Cove, Ark. and graduated from Wilburton High School in 1964. On November 4, 1966, Carol married John H. Riley in Wilburton, Okla. They made Wilburton their home for much of the past 40 years. A bookkeeper and crafter, she combined her skills in the family business, Cossatot Crafts, for many years. She loved to attend festivals and craft fairs, and became a certified one stroke instructor so she could share her love of painting. Carol was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Wilburton. She was a member of the Kiamichi Arts & Crafts Guild and a charter member of the Western Arkansas Arts and Crafts Association. Carol was a proud member of the Western Cherokee Tribe of Arkansas and Missouri and a previous member of the Wilburton VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Wilburton High School Alumni Association, a former member of the Beta Sigma Phi and former Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Carol volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, and wished to educate women about early detection of ovarian cancer.

Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Cathy Hedge; a younger sister, Loreta Hedge and an infant brother, Jackie.

She is survived by her husband, John Riley of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Delton Malone of Wilburton, Okla, and Angela and Robert Williams of Kyle, Texas; two grandchildren, Trey and Katie Williams of Kyle, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Burl and Betty Hedge of Grannis, Ark.; two sisters, Terri Lynn Hill and Betty Lou Hedge; an uncle and aunt, Bill and Doice Hedge; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2006 in the Daniels cemetery Chapel in Wickes, Ark., under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlister, Okla.

Ricky Dwight Icenhower

Ricky Dwight Icenhower, age 18, a resident of Dierks, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 in Dierks.

He was born Feb. 17, 1988 in Texarkana, Texas to Darwin and Darlene Leach Icenhower; was a student at Hope Community College in Hope; and was a member of Holly Creek Baptist Church in Dierks.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Linda Thorndike, and his great-grandfather, Olin Icenhower.

He is survived by his parents; one sister, Kayla Nichole Icenhower of Dierks; one brother, Jesse William Icenhower of Dierks; grandparents, Larry Dwight Icenhower, Richard Leach and Jacqueline Leach, all of Dierks; and great-grandparents, Florine Icenhower of Dierks, Mary Tabscott of Murfreesboro, and Virginia Leach of Bryan, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Nashville Funeral Home with Tommy Rider and Roland Dean officiating. Burial followed in Sunshine cemetery near Center Point.

Visitation was Monday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lavelle Alexander

Mrs. Claudeane Lavelle Fowler Alexander, age 77, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 in the Brookewood Nursing Center.

She was born Nov. 4, 1928 in Wickes to Carson Claudene and Willie Mae Taylor Fowler, was a retired secretary from Hertz Rent-A-Car and a member of the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Alton Fowler and W.T. Fowler; and a sister, Dorene Hill.

She is survived by one sister, Charlotte Chandler of De Queen; a brother, Dwight Fowler of Texarkana; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 in the Daniel cemetery with Rev. Sam Hendricks officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
