Mary Esther Hinsley
Mary Esther Hinsley, age 92, a longtime resident of Lockesburg, died Monday, September 19, 2005 peacefully in her sleep. She was born April 24, 1919 in Logan County, Arkansas to Walter and Artie Whitecotton Proctor.
Esther loved life, and she showed that love with all who came her way. She worked tirelessly alongside her husband, Gus, to make a home and care for her three children, Jammie, Glenda, and Randy.
She took in her city-dwelling grandkids during the summer, so that they would know something other than city life. She walked through the woods with them, hunted dogwood, and taught them all she knew about nature. Her grandchildren who lived nearby knew her door was always open. When a young Jammie needed a new place to call home, Esther opened her arms to take him in. Her grandkids will never forget those golden times with their Mamaw.
Esther loved to travel. She was planning a trip to visit relatives when she died. We will always remember a family trip to New Mexico when we looked up in shock to see a 79-year-old Esther rolling down a sand dune with her grandchildren at White Sands.
But Esther always looked forward to returning home to Milford Community, her many friends, and her garden. She worked that garden only days before she died.
She did not want to leave her family and friends, but she had grown weary in recent years and looked forward to reuniting with her husband, Gus, and her son Jammie.
Esther blessed us all for so many years and the Lord granted Esther's final wish. She died peacefully in her own home. It is hard to let her go, but we take comfort knowing that all of us will meet her again.
Esther is survived by one son, Randy Hinsley of De Queen; one daughter, Glenda Deemer of Coppell, Texas; five grandchildren, Renee Studebaker, Rochelle Snow, Jammie Hinsley, Scott Hinsley, and Kelly Helms; seven great-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Esther were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2005 in the Bellville Methodist Church with Scott Hinsley officiating. Burial followed in the Belleville cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
