Mrs. Edna Louise Riley Wallace
Mrs. Edna Louise Riley Wallace, 85, of Hamburg, died Monday, September 26, 2005 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas Hospital in El Dorado.
Mrs. Wallace was a native and life long resident of Hamburg and a resident of De Queen for the past two years. She retired from the Soil Conservation and Farm Bureau and she was a member of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Adult Ladies Sunday School Class and the Lois Circle and served as clerk of Bartholomew Association for 22 years. She served as secretary-treasurer of the Promise Land cemetery Association for 24 years and she was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Hamburg Chapter, 151.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Guy R. Wallace in 1973; a son, Richard Wallace in June 2005; her parents, Radford R. and Edna Belle Higginbotham Riley; three sisters, Merle Benson, Alice Collins and Virginia Scott.
She is survived by a son, Randolph Wallace and wife, Peggy, of El Dorado; two daughters, Nancy Bryant and husband, Bill, of Idabel, Okla. and Edna Mae Carlton and husband, Joe, of De Queen; a daughter-in-law, Carol Sue Wallace of Monticello; a sister, Sue Cockrell and husband, Olen, of Monticello; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Fredrick Etheridge, Rev. John Mooney and Rev. Curtis Brown officiating. Burial was in the Promise Land cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home, Hamburg.
Barbara Lynn Hernandez
Mrs. Barbara Lynn Gray Hernandez, age 52, resident of New Boston, Tex., died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005 in Christus St. Michael Hospital at Texarkana.
She was born Jan. 11, 1953 in Jacksonville, Tex., to M.M. “Ken” and Jo Ann Hill Gray; was a paralegal; and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by father, M.M. “Ken” Gray; and her husband, Manuel Hernandez.
She is survived by four brothers, Lewis Durrett of Haworth, Okla., Kenneth Gray of Palestine, Tex., Patrick Gray of Haworth, Okla., and John Griffin of Longview, Tex.; two sisters, Melody Gray of Haworth, Okla., and Charlotte Griffin of Troup, Tex.; her mother and step-father, Jo Ann and Melvin Langley of Haworth, Okla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 in Green cemetery with Rev. Fred Smith officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Elvin Tadlock
Mr. Elvin Tadlock, age 68, a resident of Grannis, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare System in Texarkana.
He was born April 8, 1937 in Valliant, Okla., to Walter Jackson and Ollie Lula Tadlock. He was a retired millwright for Weyerhaeuser and a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Grannis.
Mr. Tadlock was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Charlie Fay (Red) Tadlock, Charles Ray (Blackie) Tadlock, Elmer Lee (Buck) Tadlock; one sister, Velma Marks; and one son-in-law, Johnny Morris.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Tadlock; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Melinda Tadlock of Wickes; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Mike Wood of Broken Bow, Okla., and Bobbie and Michael Morgan of Pryor, Okla.; and his second mom, Ruth Roberts of De Queen; one brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Laura Tadlock of Idabel, Okla.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Treva Story, also of Idabel and Nora and J.W. Liles of Linden, TX; one brother-in-law, Paul and wife, Betty Roberts of Wright City, Okla., his grandchildren, Joey, Jimmy, Josh and his wife, Amy, Jennifer and her husband, Jacob, Jessica, Whitney, Cheyenne and Michann; four great-grandchildren, Kylie, Jacie, Landrie and Carlee; and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Tadlock were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2005 in the First Baptist Church in Grannis with Rev. Todd Peebles and Rev. Michael Mussett officiating. Burial followed in the Grannis cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, at the funeral home.
Daisie Harrell
Mrs. Daisie Inez Wright Harrell, age 91, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, September 23, 2005 at her home from a lengthy illness.
She was born to Thomas Eddy and Cora Lee Shelby Wright at De Queen, Arkansas, on March 28, 1914, and graduated from De Queen High School in 1932. She became a member of the First Christian Church in 1929, and served as Church Historian, and was very active in Christian Women Fellowship. She was a member of the Eastern Star, where she had served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, and the EHC, and enjoyed sewing and homemaking. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Fredrick Wright, David Wright, Richard Wright, Mary VanHorn and Frances Wright.
She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Jack Eugene Harrell of De Queen; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Lewallen of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Travis "Gene" and Judy Harrell of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jerry and Patricia Lewallen of Austin, Texas; Douglas and Connie Lewallen of Natchitoches, Louisiana; Kristy and Delores Smith of Destrehan, Louisiana; Stephanie and Jeff Sommers of San Antonio, Texas; and Scott Harrell of St. Petersburg, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Lewallen; Sydney Sommers and Allison Sommers; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Alvin "Butch" Wright of De Queen.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Daisie Harrell were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2005 in the Redmen cemetery with Rev. Doug Dorris and Dr. Sterling Lacy officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2005.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, De Queen.
Lois May Wilson
Lois May Dean Wilson, age 92, resident of Wickes, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 in De Queen.
She was born Aug. 29, 1913 in Wickes to Frank and Della Sullivan Dean; was a homemaker; and a member of First Baptist Church in Wickes where she taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Wilson in 1967; and her parents.
She is survived by two sisters, Lola Lewey and Hazel Golden, both of Wickes; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 in Wickes Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Alvin Baker, Bro. Scott Ray and Bro. Leon McClesky officiating. Interment followed in Baker cemetery in Wickes, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Alberto Xavier Bretado
Alberto Xavier Bretado, age 35, resident of Grannis, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at his home.
He was born May 27, 1970 at Mexico City, Mexico to Luis and Gloria Vazquez de Bretado; was a personnel supervisor for Tyson Foods at Nashville; and a Catholic.
He is survived by his parents of Monterey, Mexico; three brothers, Luis Bretado of Monterey, Mexico, Hector Bretado of Gillham, and Eduardo Bretado of Mexico City, Mexico; one sister, Gladys Bretado of Monterey, Mexico; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 in Chandler Funeral Home with Hector Bretado Ortaga officiating. Cremation followed.
James Brett
Mr. James Felmer Brett, age 87, a resident of Langley, Arkansas died Wednesday, October 5, 2005 in the Glenwood Nursing Center.
He was born July 26, 1918 in Langley, Arkansas to Edward James and Mary Francis Jones Brett. He was a welder for Lane Poultry and attended the Methodist Church.
Mr. Brett was preceded in death by his wife, Della Brett; one daughter, Betty Gentry; one brother and two sisters; and one grandson, Dean Gentry.
He is survived by one son, Jim Brett of Wickes; one daughter, Christene Pinson of Langley; one brother, J. D. Brett of Hatfield; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Brett were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2005 in the First Baptist Church in Wickes with Rev. Scott Ray officiating. Burial followed in the Duckett cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jim Brett, Jr., Jason Brett, Bob Pinson, Brett Gentry, Jimmy David Brett, and Ricky Don Seals.
The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
John “Tim” Hendrix
John “Tim” Hendrix, age 60, resident of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 at his home.
He was born May 28, 1945 at Butler to John Henry and Selma Covington Hendrix; was an electrician for Domtar; a member of the Union; and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife, Nyla Hendrix of Murfreesboro; two stepsons, Michael Tollett of Bryant and Matt Tollett of Nashville; one daughter, Michelle Covington of De Queen; his father, John Henry Hendrix of Gilbertown, Ala.; one sister, Nina Lewis of Demopolis, Ala.; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 in Mineral Springs cemetery with Mike Reese officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
