H.G. McCandless
H.G. McCandless, age 80, resident of Foreman, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005 at his home.
He was born Feb. 6, 1925 in Wallace to James and Beulah Callicott McCandless; was retired from Red River Army Depot; a carpenter; a veteran of World War II; and a member of First Baptist Church in Foreman. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Gabriel Neal McCandless; a brother, Jr. McCandless; and a sister, Mary Raley.
He is survived by his wife, Ona Broomfield McCandless; three sons, Leary McCandless, Herb McCandless and Roger McCandless, all of Foreman; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Foreman First Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Woods officiating. Burial followed in Campground cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
There was a viewing at the funeral home and also at First Baptist Church in Foreman from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Goldie Graham
Mrs. Goldie Graham, age 93, a resident of Horatio, died Friday, June 2, 2006 in the Brookewood Nursing Center.
She was born February 21, 1913 in Pushmataha, Okla. to Silas Griffin and Menty Jane Steadman Crunk, owned and operated Graham's Laundry-Mat in Horatio and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Horatio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dixie Miller and her husband, Clint Graham.
She is survived by two sisters, Alpha Smith of Hochatown, Okla. and Sue Westfall of Broken Bow, Okla. and two nieces.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 3 in the Eagletown cemetery Pavilion, with burial in the Eagletown cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
Violet L. Schaiff
Mrs. Violet L. Schaiff, age 69, a resident of Coffeyville, Kan. died Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 18, 1937 in Weatherford, Texas to Marvin and Ruby (Hall) Rollins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Malbern Schaiff of Coffeyville; two daughters, Cynthia Schaiff of Waco, Texas and Jackie Schaiff of Coffeyville, Kan.
Cremation was under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Crematory. A private service will be held by the family.
Gladys Bell
Mrs. Gladys "Ma Bell" Flora Edna Fears Bell, age 73, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at her home.
She was born May 8, 1933 in De Queen to Homer and Rosa Clark Fears. She was the former owner of State Farm Insurance and member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Bell loved singing in the church choir, sunsets, and flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Bell, two granddaughters, Victoria Renee Bell and Cindy Lynn Williamson, and one grandson, Anthony Scott Bell.
Mrs. Bell is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Paddy Bell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Kevin Williamson and Sharon and Jimmy Cooper, all of De Queen; one brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Vivian Fears, also of De Queen; her grandchildren, Valerie and Shane Graham of Danville, KY, Richard and Brittany Bell of Buckner, AR and Ronnie and Tiffany Williamson of De Queen; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Jayne Graham.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bell were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2006 in the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 22, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cindy Williamson Scholarship Fund at any of the local banks.
Martha Ann Byers
Martha Ann Byers, age 62, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Byers was bone June 2, 1943 in Mena, Ark. and had lived in Texarkana for over 20 years. She was the Owner of Caps, Tees and Uniforms and Byers Trucking Company. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Helen Cornelius Lawrence, and a daughter, Kelly Byers Goodrick.
She is survived by three sons: Kenny Byers, Terry Byers and Kevin Byers, all of Texarkana; three daughters and a son-in-law: Darlene Byers, Laquita and Phillip Osburn and Marqueta Byers, all of Texarkana; her mom: Eva Mae Lawrence of Mena, Ark.; four brothers: Mark Lawrence of Washington, Donnie Lawrence of Wickes, Ark., Ritchie Lawrence of Colorado and Dale Lawrence of Oregon; two sisters: Barbara Lawrence of Wyoming and Jean Early of Tulsa, Okla.; an aunt: Hazel Baker of Wickes, Ark.; four grandchildren: Cody Byers, Eric Osburn, Korenna Goodrick and Travis Goodrick; and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006 in the Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel at the Texarkana Funeral Home with Chaplain B.J. Garrett officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Valley cemetery in Gillham, Ark.
The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
The family was at 1513 Euclid.
Floy Cox
Mrs. Floy Cox, age 91, a resident of Dierks, died Thursday, June 15, 2006 in the Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville.
She was born Sept. 26, 1914 in Eagletown, Okla. to Ernest and Ethel Bedwell Barnett, was a store clerk and a member of Dierks Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester "Red" Cox on May 29, 1991; two brothers; one sister; an infant son; and a grandson, Russell Cox in 2001.
She is survived by two sons, Hariol Cox of Dierks and Sammie Cox of Sherwood; one sister, Verna Boston and one brother, Archie Barnett, both of California; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 17 in the Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae, minister, and Kelly Brown officiating. Burial followed in the Sunshine cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 16 at the funeral home in Dierks.

Jack Harrell
Mr. Jack Eugene Harrell, age 91, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Monday, May 8, 2006 in the Saint Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs, after a lengthy illness.
Jack was born to William Tracy and Mary Florence Redding Harrell at Muskogee, Oklahoma on October 27, 1914. While living in the Gillham area, he met Daisie Inez Wright of De Queen, and they were married
on October 23, 1937. He was a member of the First Christian Church and served as Chairman of the Church Board. He was a member of the Sweet Home Lodge 461, where he served as Worshipful Master and received the Pillars of Solomon award for lifelong distinguished service. He was also a member of the Royal Arch Chapter and a Knight Commander of the Court of Honor of the Scottish Rite, and completed additional advanced degrees in the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Patron. He was retired from Mountaire Poultry, where he was Maintenance Supervisor, and was also retired from CCCUA, as Facilities Manager.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a half-sister, Margaret Blanch McMillen; and on September 23, 2005, his wife, Daisie.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Lewallen of Hot Springs, Ark.; one son and daughter-in-law, Travis "Gene" and Judy Harrell of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jerry and Pitty Lewallen of Austin, Texas, Douglas and Connie Lewallen of Natchitoches, La., Kristy and Delous Smith of Destreham, La., Stephanie and Jeff Sommers of San Antonio, Texas, and Scott Harrell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Lewallen of Austin, Texas, Sydney Sommers and Allison Sommers, both of San Antonio, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Jack Harrell will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2006 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Doug Dorris and Dr. Sterling Lacy officiating. Burial will follow in Redmen cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 10th.
