Sheila M. Vanscoder

Mrs. Sheila Margaret Doyle Vanscoder, age 72, resident of Horatio, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.

She was born April 20, 1933 in London, England to John Herbert and Edith Forrester Doyle; and was a member of the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Roy Vanscoder.

She is survived by four daughters, Christine Bass of Virginia Beach, Va., Carole Dockins of Horatio, Patricia Vanscoder of Alma, and Brenda Vanscoder of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Jim Doyle of Melton Keys, England; three sisters, Pat Hibbert of London, England, Vera Hardacre of Sudbury, England, and Joyce McFarlane of Winnipeg, Canada; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Girl Scouts of Conifer Council, PO Box 2391, Texarkana, AR 75504 or the American Cancer Society, Memorial Chairman, PO Box 980, De Queen, AR 71832.

Charles Robert Hodge

Mr. Charles Robert Hodge, age 64, a resident of Poteau, Oklahoma, formerly of De Queen, died Monday, June 27, 2005 in the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR.

He was born June 2, 1941 in De Queen to Robert and Veda E. West Hodge. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in Vietnam, and manager of Bailey Discount Building Supply of De Queen for 17 years until his retirement in May 2000.

Mr. Hodge is survived by his wife, Cleta Hodge of Poteau, OK; one daughter Charlotte Hodge of Bentonville; his stepson, David Jones of Reno, NV; his mother-in-law, Cheselene Fuller of De Queen; his brother and sister-in-law, James C. and Janice Hodge of De Queen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Memorial Service for Mr. Hodge was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2005 in the Redmen cemetery with Ken Staggs officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Kenneth Ray Klitz

Mr. Kenneth Ray Klitz, age 73, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas, died Monday, July 11, 2005 at his home.

He was born June 17, 1932 in Ashdown, Ark. to Otto and Nettie Connely Klitz. He was a retired sawmiller, an ordained minister with the Intercontinental Church of God, a Hospice volunteer, and was actively involved with the Winthrop School restoration project.

Mr. Klitz was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Orville.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Effie Milam Klitz; two sons, Ronald Klitz and Joel Klitz, both of Winthrop; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Jim Vaughn of Shreveport, La. and Rachel and Marc Aldaz of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Billie Joe Tucker of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Barbara Ann Frady of Winthrop; his grandchildren, Scott Lord, Amanda Thomas, Jeremy Reynolds, Rebecca Bennett, Josh Klitz, Sarah Klitz, and Lindsey Klitz; and his great-grandchildren, Kara Thomas and Brenya Reynolds.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Klitz were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2005 in the Pauley cemetery with Leon Klitz and Ron Elkins officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, De Queen.

Zena Jegstrup

Mrs. Zena Ransom Jegstrup, age 92, resident of Ashdown, died Sunday, July 10, 2005 in Little River Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Monday, Sept. 2, 1912 in Provo to Robert Henry and Willer Lee Ransom; was a homemaker; and a member of Provo Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jegstrup on Feb. 8, 1976.

She is survived by three sons, Robert Jegstrup of Dallas, Tex., Floyd Jegstrup of Horatio and Guy Jegstrup of Houston, Tex.; one daughter, Betty Jewell of Ashdown; three sisters, Chloe Hawthorne of De Queen, Rena Webb and Icie Osborn, both of Provo; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 in Provo Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tommy Guthrie and Rev. Keith Jordan officiating. Burial followed in McHorse cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kaynen Allan Haynes

Kaynen Allan Haynes, infant son of Bobby and Angela Haynes of Wickes, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 in Little Rock.

Besides his parents, he is survived by five sisters, Cathy Gonzalez, Angela Gonzalez, Kimberly Gonzalez, Amy Haynes and Magdalena Haynes, all of Wickes; and his grandparents, Billy and Alice Haynes of Hatfield and Francisco J. Sanchez of Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Magdalena Bustos.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 21 at Six Mile cemetery in Hatfield with Father Salvador Marquez-Munoz officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Wilburn Howard Lemley

Wilburn Howard “Lem” Lemley, age 85, resident of Odessa, Tex., died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at Hospice House Odessa.

He was born Feb. 20, 1919 in Gillham to Jeff and Verna Lemley; was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and was employed by Halliburton Company for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Drexel Lemley.

He is survived by his wife, Majol Lemley of Odessa, Tex.; two sons, Gerry Lemley of Midland, Tex., Joel Lemley of Blackwell, Tex.; one brother, Harold Lemley of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 in the chapel at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors at Odessa. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.

Vernita Kennedy

Vernita Kennedy, a resident of De Queen, Ark., passed away Sunday, December 26, 2004 in Texarkana, Texas. She was born November 3, 1957 to Fred and Ocie Lee French in Foreman, Ark. Vernita attended Tom Elementary School and graduated from Haworth High School. She worked many years at Pilgrim's in De Queen until her health failed. She was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church, De Queen, Ark.

Vernita married Clarence Kennedy and to this union eight children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, her father and two children.

Vernita leaves to mourn her passing five sons, Travis, Keith, Shannon, Shawn, and Justin, and one daughter, Dana, all of De Queen; her mother, Ocie Lee French, De Queen, Ark.; three brothers, Torris Fred French of West Memphis, Ark., Joe Hendrix French, Tom, Okla., and Willie Jay French, Nashville, Ark.; two sisters, Juanita French, De Queen, Ark., and Bonnie Marie Baker, Broken Bow, Okla.; two aunts, Alice Joshua, Sherman, Texas, and Edna Mae Richards, Tacoma, Wash.; one uncle, Leo Williams, San Antonio, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services were Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 1 p.m. at New Dora Baptist Church, Tom, Okla. with Rev. James Ezell officiating. Interment was at St. Luke cemetery, Tom, Okla.

Professional services provided by Nunley's Funeral Home, Idabel, Okla.

Louis Glenn Pool

Louis Glenn Pool, age 71, resident of Lockesburg and formerly of Brentwood, Calif., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.

He was born March 10, 1933 at Ketchum, Okla., to Oscar A. and Mary F. Turner Pool; was a 1952 graduate of Liberty Union High School at Brentwood, Calif., and inducted into the Football Hall of Fame; was a truck driver; a Truck Driving King of the Road from 1952 until 2004; and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita Jones Pool of Lockesburg; one son, Louis L. Pool of Oakley, Calif.; three daughters, Debra Hanson of Lockesburg, Glenna Campana of Antioch, Calif., and Maryann Hanberg of Brentwood, Calif.; one brother, Odie Pool of Bend, Ore.; three sisters, Edith Walker of Vacaville, Calif., Rheba Fraser of Concord, Calif., and Violet Hopkins of Afton, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Ricky Bowman officiating. Burial followed in Lockesburg cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the funeral home.
