Winfred Lawrence
Mr. Winfred Calvin Lawrence, age 79, of McKinney, Texas passed away August 4, 2006 at his home. He was born August 23, 1927, in Provo, Arkansas to Horace and Ida Mae (Lee) Lawrence. On September 15, 1966 he married
Virginia Ashcraft in Roswell, New Mexico. Mr. Lawrence was the owner of Jim's Drive Inn and G & S Check Cashing businesses in McKinney.
He is survived by his wife Ginger; sisters Edna Rockwell and her husband, Boots, of Arizona and Frances Valiquette and her husband, Art, of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law Pat Howard and her husband, Cecil, of Keller, Texas and Norma Hoskinson and her husband, David, of Viroqua, Wisconsin; brother-in-law Short Young of Hobbs, New Mexico; four nieces; eight nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2006, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel. The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
Bill Norwood
Bill Barton Norwood, age 60, a resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 at his home.
He was born June 6, 1946 in Pueblo, Colo. to Clifton Wilson Norwood Sr. and Allie Mae Jackson Norwood, was a lumber stacker for Danville Plywood and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clifton Wilson Norwood Jr. and Jimmy Norwood; and a sister, Estelle Roberson.
He is survived by four sons, William Lewis, Daniel Warren Norwood, Christopher Lee Lewis and Michael Lewis; four daughters, Alicia Marlene Norwood, Felicia Danielle Norwood, Heather Denise Norwood and Kathryn Lewis; two brothers, Archie Norwood and Donald Norwood; two sisters, Margarette Morrell and Geraldine Atkins; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Lillie's Pad with Rev. Alfred Thomas officiating.
George H. Holcombe
George Herbert Holcombe, age 87, a resident of Dierks, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006 in Howard Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 3, 1919 in Kirby to William and Mary Belle Lockeby Holcombe; was retired from the Weyerhaeuser Forestry Dept., where he worked 42 years; and was a member of Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Gladys Rodgers Holcombe.
He is survived by two daughters, Doris Blackwood of Dierks and Jo Ellan Chesshire of Nashville; one son, Hayes Holcombe of Dierks; one brother, Huey Holcombe of Pinedale, Ariz.; and two sisters, Nadine Hixon of Arkadelphia and Cleda LaFevers of Glenwood.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6 in Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Allbritton officiating. Burial followed in Fellowship cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at the funeral home in Dierks.
The family was at the home of Hayes Holcombe, 2004 Old Hwy. 70 N. in Dierks.
Billy Chapman
Billy Wayne Chapman, age 33, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006.
He was born to Kerry Dean and Tita Sison Chapman at San Narcisco, Zambles, Philippines, and was a truck driver for White's Sand and Gravel in Brooksville, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Belcher Chapman of De Queen; two sons, Tristan Wayne Chapman and Zayne Sison Chapman, both of De Queen; a daughter of Grannis; a step-daughter, Desiree Angelique Emerson of De Queen; his parents; two brothers, John Sison Yarbrough of Springhill, Fla. and Bryan David Chapman of De Queen; two sisters, Jacquelyn Sison Tonihka of Broken Bow, Okla. and Christylynn Sison Conatser of Mena; his grandparents, Jewell Skaggs of De Queen and Marciana Sison of the Philippines; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery.
John David Milam
John David Milam, age 25, of Foreman went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, after injuries received in an automobile accident on July 23.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Beau Curtis Milam in 1979, his paternal aunt Tammy Dossett in 2001, and his paternal great-grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Milam in 1999.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, John C. Milam of Tatum, Texas, Herbert and Peggy Milam Heimbach of Valliant, Okla.; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Misty Milam of Lane, Okla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Jessica Milam and Randal Gant of Millerton, Okla.; one nephew, Beau Taylor Curtis Milam of Millerton, Okla.; one step-brother, Terry Heimbach of Valliant, Okla.; one step-sister, Vanessa Monk of Midway, GA; his paternal grandparents John and Billie Milam of Foreman; maternal grandmother, Helen Edmondson of Rover, Ark.; his paternal grandfather, B.J. Roan of Eagletown, Okla.; his paternal great-grandmother, Lebith Hook of Grantspass, Ore.; a very special friend, Bobby Smith of Camden, Ark., numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends who all cherished and loved him.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 7, 2006 in the Winthrop First Baptist Church with Rev. Audie Dawson officiating. Burial followed in the Horatio cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 6, at the funeral home.
Harvey Whisenhunt
Harvey Don Whisenhunt, age 71, a resident of Gillham, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006 at his home.
He was born April 1, 1935 in Crossroads to Samuel Lee and Dora Augusta Mangus Whisenhunt, was retired from the Gillham School System and a member of Wickes Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jo Brinkley Whisenhunt; a daughter, Pamela Faye Smith; his parents; and a brother, J.F. "Buddy" Whisenhunt.
He is survived by a son, Michael Don Whisenhunt of Gillham; a daughter, Deborah Ann Bailey of Wickes; three brothers, Gene Whisenhunt, David Whisenhunt, and Charlie Whisenhunt, all of Gillham; two sisters, Inez Parks of Wickes and Linda Vaught of Horatio; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22 in the Mineral cemetery with Rev. Scott Ray officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 at the funeral home.
Susan J. Casanover
Susan Jeanette Casanover, age 64, resident of Gatesville, Tex., died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 at her home.
She was born July 26, 1942 in Houston, Tex. to Johnny and Connie Woodriff Scott; was a 1960 graduate of Jesse Jones High School; and was retired from the Special Industries Division of TDCJ Hilltop Unit in 1999.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Casanover; a daughter, Virginia James; two sons, Trey Casanover and Patrick Casanover; a sister, Sandra Young; a brother, Jay Scott; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4 in Restland cemetery.
Roy Coker
Roy Hansford Coker, age 71, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 in the UAMS Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born June 11, 1935 in Tokio to Joseph Hardy and Elsie Mae Whisenhunt Coker, served in U.S. Army, was retired from Tyson Foods, and a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Charlotte Coker in 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Coker of De Queen; two daughters, Karen Tollett of Nashville, and Jamie Coker of El Dorado; one step-daughter Vicki McDonnell of De Queen; one brother, Willis Coker of Arkadelphia; two sisters, Lastena Coker of Murfreesboro and Oletha Hove of Boto; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial followed in the Murfreesboro cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.
