Eva M. Wooten
Mrs. Eva M. Wooten, age 82, resident of Cove, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005 in the Mena Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 30, 1922 in Oklahoma to Richard Alexander and Emma Baker Jones; was retired from Lane Poultry; and attended Hatton Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Tommy Jones of Walla Walla, Wash.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. Harold Davis officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
Sue Harmon
Sue Harmon, age 86, resident of Whelen Springs, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005.
She was a member of Whelen Springs Baptist Church and the widow of Edward Harmon.
She is survived by two sons, Bryce Leonard Harmon of De Queen and Bryan Harmon of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Pope Finn of Labanon, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 in Bethlehem cemetery near Gurdon under the direction of Horne Funeral Home, Gurdon.
Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at the funeral home.
Levi Davis, Sr.
Levi Davis, Sr., a longtime resident of the Chapel Hill Community in De Queen, passed away Monday, August 22, 2005, at 6:00 p.m.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vivian Vaughn Davis; his son, Levi Davis, Jr., and wife, Linda, of Monticello, Ark.; and his daughters, Novadean Shelton and husband, Larry, and Imogene Cox and husband, Philip, all of De Queen. He had six grandchildren, Mia Revels of Tahlequah, Okla., Susan Philips of Little Rock, Ark., Charles Revels of De Queen, John David Cox of Little Rock, Ark., James Revels of De Queen, and Ward Davis of Nashville, Tenn. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Christi Smith of Nashville, Ark. and Andy Shelton of Dardenelle, Ark.; and six great-grandchildren. He had two sisters, Myrtle Hopper of Smithville, Okla., and Lessie Brinkley of Idabel, Okla.; and three brothers, Sidney Davis of Broken Bow, Okla., Sherman Davis of Idabel, Okla., and the late Melvin Davis of Broken Bow, Okla. He is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Davis was born August 27, 1916 in Hatfield, Ark. He was the son of William Elder Davis and Manda Arabell Davis of Cerro Gordo, Okla. He worked at the post mill in Sevier County when it was owned by Dierks Forestry and later Weyerhaeuser Company where he retired in 1974. He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Davis were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2005 in the Chapel Hill cemetery with Bro. J. L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Frank Jones
Frank Jones, age 74, resident of De Queen, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005 in Sevier Health Care.
He was born March 13, 1931 at Hubbard, Tex., to Ottie and Pearl Lewis Jones; was a retired auto mechanic, and security officer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Nona Vee Burk Jones in 2001.
He is survived by two sons, John Jones of Dierks and Milton Jones of De Queen; two daughters, Glenda Barton of De Queen and Juanita Lea Merritt of Oklahoma; two sisters, Juanita Reeves of Kerman, Calif., and Bobbie Sue of Montana; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8 in Saline cemetery near Athens with Rev. Scotty Ray officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Marvin C. Lisenby
Marvin C. Lisenby, age 89, resident of Cross Roads, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005 at his son’s house in Cross Roads.
He was born Sept. 14, 1916 in Arkinda to Cliff and Gertrude Lisenby; was a retired crosstie buyer; was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; and a member of King Rider Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Christine Lisenby; and one brother, Doyle Lisenby.
He is survived by one son, Marvin Tony Lisenby of Cross Roads; two daughters, Loretta Trust of Philadelphia, Pa., and Carolyn Gauntt of Tyler, Tex.; one brother, Edgar “Preach” Lisenby of Hobbs, NM; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 in Blackland cemetery with Harless Oglesby officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Aaron Perry Pearce
Mr. Aaron Perry Pearce, age 63, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Monday, August 22, 2005.
He was born August 31, 1942 in De Queen to Aaron Oliver and Hazel Irene Kelly Pearce. He was a bladesmith and was a retired food inspector for the U.S.D.A.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Eleanor Ashalintubbi Pearce of De Queen; two sons, Alan Pearce and Benny Pearce, both of De Queen; a daughter, Elizabeth Higgins of Durango, Colo.; a sister, Mari Alice and husband Joe Vobora of De Queen; his step-mother, Anita Pearce; a devoted and deeply loved grandson, Logan Pearce; a special niece, Nina Jodell of Midway, Ga.; his special loved grandchildren, David and Taylor Pearce, two other grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Pearce were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2005 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Archie Phillips officiating. Burial followed in the Panki Bok cemetery.
The family received friends from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2005 at the funeral home.
Family and friends were invited to the home of Jo and Marie Alice Vobora, 1089 Chapel Hill Road in De Queen after the service.
Helen Lucinda Gallimore
Helen Lucinda “Sue” Johnson Gallimore, age 62, resident of Dierks, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 19, 1942 in Perryopolis, Pa., to Robert Lee and Ethel Pearl Knight Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Kenneth Dunlap.
She is survived by a sister, Ethel Consla of Rice, Tex.; a brother, Donald Johnson of Auburndale, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elmer Hamel officiating. Cremation followed.
Ruth Jean Gibson
Mrs. Ruth Jean Gibson, age 73, passed from this life at Grace Home in Shreveport, La. on August 18, 2005 after a lengthy illness.
The family received friends Sunday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. at the Boone Funeral Home Bossier Chapelin in Bossier City, La.
Mrs. Gibson was a member of Airline Baptist Church in Bossier City. She was a graduate of Henderson College with a teaching degree and taught for many years in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Florida. She was totally devoted to the joys of her life, her children and family.
Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her husband, Roger "Bo" Gibson, Sr.; parents, Devoe and Edna Bollinger; and sisters, Maxine Pike and Geraldine Beshear.
She is survived by her children, Devona Cummings and husband, Jesse, of Bossier City, Roger Gibson and wife, Becky, of Topeka, Kan., and Karla Hayes and husband, Greg, of Bossier City; her grandchildren, Jan Fowler of Washington, D.C., Scott Hayes of Lafayette, Amanda Hayes of Bossier City, Mollyanne, Lydia, Graham, and Lincoln Gibson of Topeka, Kan.; sisters, Corinne Robinson of Fayetteville, Ark., and Eva Lou Johnson of Hot Springs, Ark.; and brother, Devoe Bollinger of Horatio, Ark.
