Billy Ornal Wesson
Billy Ornal Wesson, age 74, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 in Phoenix, Ariz., after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 18, 1930 near Quanah, Tex., to Carl and Ethel Wesson; graduated from De Queen High School; was a veteran; and a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Hinkle; and two brothers, J.C. and Charles.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ingrid Wald Wesson; one daughter, Seglinde MacFadden of La Costa, Calif.; three sons, Michael, Roger and Kurt, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Juannelle Gage of De Queen; one brother, Carl Jr. “Buddy” of Pearland, Tex.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Smyrna Church of Christ, De Queen.
Homer Harvey Huffman
Homer Harvey Huffman, age 90, of Greens Chapel passed away Thursday, December 23, 2004 in the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born October 29, 1914 in Perry County, Arkansas to Leerk C. and Lillie Orrell Huffman.
He was a member of the Greens Chapel Methodist Church and was instrumental in helping to establish a cemetery fund about 30 years ago. Homer was also a member of the Democratic Committee of Sevier County for over 25 years.
Homer is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nola Shelton Huffman; three children, Laverne Robertson of Cordova, Tenn., Harvey Huffman of Blanchard, La., and Carolyn Cook of Bryant, Ark.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Huffman were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 26, 2004 in the Greens Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Neal officiating. Burial followed in the Greens Chapel cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Family visitation was held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 26, at the church.
Mary Johnston
Mary A. Johnston, 92, of Richmond, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Jan 23, 2005 in Sweetwater, Texas where she was residing with her son, Ron.
She retired from JC Penney in Steubenville in 1978. She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women; the Toronto Senior Citizens, the Sunset Lake Homemakers, the Country Side Garden Club, and the Richmond Lioness Club. She was chairman of the Quilting Club at the church since 1975.
Mary was born in Horatio, Arkansas, October 14, 1912, a daughter of the late Lewis and Elizabeth MacMillan Gore. She is also preceded in death by her husband, George H. Johnston who died February 7, 1991 and whom she married
September 21, 1935; five brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Ron Johnston and wife, Billie, of Sweetwater, Texas, and Calvin Johnston and wife, Pat, of DuBois, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mary were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the Richmond United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Hicks officiating. Private interment followed in the Richmond Union cemetery. There was a viewing Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church, Richmond, OH 43944 or to the donors' local Hospice. The Everhart-Bove Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Beulah Savannah Goss
Mrs. Beulah Savannah Kesterson Goss, age 93, resident of Dierks, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 in Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville.
She was born Nov. 19, 1911 in Howard County to Ben and Mary Jane House Kesterson; was a homemaker; and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Goss in 1991; and a son, Barney Goss in 2000.
She is survived by one son, Gary Goss of Nashville; two daughters, Betty Dinger and Linda Harberson, both of Dierks; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Rev. Glen David Launius officiating. Burial followed in Harmony cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20 at the funeral home.
Hines Eley
Hines Eley, age 85, resident of De Queen, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 in De Queen.
He was born March 17, 1919 in Nashville to Walter D. and Catherine Norwood Eley; was a retired store manager for Knights Department Store; a former member of the Lions Club; and a member of De Queen Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Norma Langley of Hot Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Eley of De Queen; one son, Greg Eley of LaGrange, KY; one daughter, Linda Eley of Bear, DE; one brother, Guy M. Eley of Irving, Tex.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 in De Queen Church of Christ. Burial followed in Ozan cemetery at Bingen, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
Jimmie Clyde "Mutt" Walters
Jimmie Clyde "Mutt" Walters, age 67, a resident of Dierks, Ark., died Sunday, December 19, 2004 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare System in Texarkana.
He was born July 2, 1937 in the Kolbtown Community. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Baptist.
Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Marlin Walters; and one brother, Billy J. Walters.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Chambers Walters; one son, Lance Marlin Walters of Dierks; his mother, Mattie Alexander Walters of De Queen; three sisters, Pat Clay of Lockesburg, Diane Webb of Texarkana, Texas and Tammy Kitchens of Miami, Fla.; two special nephews, Robert Butler of De Queen and James Wilson of Germany; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Walters were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2004 in the Greens Chapel Church with Rev. Bill Driggers officiating. Burial followed in the Greens Chapel cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family received friends from from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, at the funeral home in Dierks.
Dorothy Lillian Green
Dorothy Lillian Green, age 80, resident of Texarkana, and formerly of Dierks, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 in a Texarkana hospital.
She was born Nov. 11, 1924 in Lockesburg to Wiley Walter and Artie Mae Whitecotton Proctor; was a homemaker; a member of Dierks United Methodist Church; and active in Sunday school, bible study, and was an avid quilter. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Carruth H. Green of Hope; two sons, Rodney Green of Dierks and Robin Green of Arkadelphia; four daughters, Rita Hunter of Hot Springs, Dena Hampton of Hope, Pamela Hires of Monroe, La., and Lori Hunt of Texarkana; one sister, Esther Hinsley of Lockesburg; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20 in Dierks United Methodist Church with Rev. Garry Wiles officiating. Burial followed in Belleville cemetery at Lockesburg under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
Edna Ruth Crow
Edna Ruth Stuart Crow, age 68, resident of Foreman, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 in Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana.
She was born June 21, 1936 in Foreman; and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Younger Nunn Stuart and Bessie Mae Stuart; and one sister, Betty Ann Betz.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, George Wayland Crow; three sons, James Perry Crow of Foreman, David Wayne Crow of Ashdown and Thomas Kelly Crow of Texarkana; one brother, James Miller Stuart; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14 in Alleene cemetery with Rev. Duane Blackmore officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Memorials may be made to the Foreman First Baptist Church.
