Mildred Altenbaumer

Mrs. Mildred Stafford Altenbaumer, age 78, resident of Alleene, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Texarkana, Texas.

She was born July 5, 1926 in Clebit, Okla.; was an active member of the Ouachita Arts and Crafts Guild for the past 15 years, co-chairperson of the Mountainfest Craft Show at Mena for 5 years, was a retired food inspector for UDSA, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Foreman.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond Stafford and Dallas Altenbaumer, Sr.; one grandchild, Kimberly Brown; and a brother, Robert Smart.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Lee Stafford of Benton and William Stafford of Ashdown; one daughter, Shirley Broomfield of Alleene; three brothers, John Smart of Redding, Calif., Shirley Smart of Castro Valley, Calif. and David Smart of Madisonville, Calif.; two sisters, Rosille Alexander of Mena and Wanda Black of Eureka, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 in the First Baptist Church at Foreman with Rev. Michael Mauldin officiating. Burial followed in Alleene cemetery under the direction of Madden Funeral Services, Ashdown.

Oscar B. Tate

Dr. Oscar B. Tate, DDS, age 91, resident of Leavenworth, Kan., and formerly of De Queen, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004 in Leavenworth Homestead Assisted Living.

He was born Nov. 7, 1913 at Harrison; attended the Kansas City Dental College in Kansas City, Mo., receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1937; practiced dentistry in De Queen for several years; was an Army veteran; and retired in 1975 from the United States Public Health Service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Maxine Gravitt Tate on April 28, 2003.

Lowell Edmond Lites

Lowell Edmond Lites, age 79, resident of Dierks, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 in Howard Memorial Hospital at Nashville.

He was born March 28, 1925 in Wright City, Okla., to Otho L. and Allen May Kimbrough Lites; was a minister at Daisy Church of Christ; a retired Weyerhaeuser maintenance supervisor; and a retired Dierks Fire Chief.

He is survived by his wife, Selma Jean Sivley Lites; a son, Steve Lites; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22 in Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae and Danny White, ministers, officiating. Burial followed in Dierks cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of Dierks.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the funeral home in Dierks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lowell Lites Lady Outlaw Softball Scholarship Fund.

Charles W. Billingsley Jr.

Charles Winchell “Buck” Billingsley Jr., age 80, resident of Foreman, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004 at his home.

He was born Oct. 28, 1924 at Billingsley’s Corner to Charles Winchell and Ruth Pauley Billingsley; served in World War II with the Seabees; was a retired truck driver; and a member of the American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by two sons, John E. Billingsley of Hope and Joe W. Billingsley of Monroe, NC; three daughters, Rebecca Waller-Collins of Ft. Towson, Okla., Nina Billingsley of Texarkana, Tex., and Ritta May Pell of Haworth, Okla.; one brother, Jim Pauley Billingsley of Billingsley’s Corner; one sister, Nina Stoker of Ashdown; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27 in Billingsley Family cemetery at Billingsley’s Corner with Jimmy Woods officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association.

Lieutenant Commander George K. Tilley

Lieutenant Commander George K. Tilley, U.S. Navy retired, passed to his rest in McKinney, Texas on January 12, 2005 at the age of 90.

Mr. Tilley was born on October 6, 1914 in Banner, Oklahoma the son of Franklin and Maude Tilley, and the youngest of four children. He grew up in El Reno, Oklahoma and was a member of the First Christian Church. He joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1934 and served his country for thirty years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty years, Dorothy Willard Tilley, and his wife of twenty years, Floreine Chiles Tilley.

He is survived by his son, Pete Tilley of McKinney, Texas; daughter Susan Ah-Mau of Napa, CA.; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 22, 2005, at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, 100 N. Barker St., El Reno, OK. Burial with Military Honors will be in the El Reno cemetery. The family will be receiving guests for the visitation on Friday, January 21, from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Wilson Funeral Home.

Ethel Morea Corcoran

Ethel Morea Cook Reid Corcoran, age 83, resident of Lebanon, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004.

She was born Oct. 26, 1921 in Midland to Elmer and Fanny Taylor Cook; and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by three husbands; her parents; two sisters; and one brother.

She is survived by two children, Joyce Ann Reid Martin of Lebanon, Mo., and Preston Henry Reid of Edmond, Okla.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 in the Seventh Day Adventist Church with Rev. Henry Reid officiating. Burial followed in Beacon Hill cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Chanie Alice Doss Needham

Chanie Alice Doss Needham of Little Rock, Ark., passed away, Saturday, December 18, 2004.

She was born May 22, 1919 in Lockesburg, Ark. She was the daughter of Carlie and Letha Doss.

She is survived by one daughter, Dennis Lynn Boles, four granddaughters, Kimberly Melchor, Melynda Weber, Rachelle Pelham, all of Houston, Texas, and Paula Baylot of Vickesburg, Miss.; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Ragan of Little Rock, Ark. She was also loved by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Lee Needham; one daughter, Diana Loy Needham; and five brother and six sisters.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2004 in the Oddfellows cemetery in Lockesburg, Ark., with Pastor Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 20, at the funeral home.

James Wallace Murphy

James Wallace Murphy, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 in Dallas, Tex.

He was born in Jefferson, Mo., to the late Wallace H. and Mary Gerbes Murphy. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josie Murphy, in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Murphy of Dallas, Tex.; children, Mary Crader of Jefferson, Mo., Terri Putnam of Palestine, Tex., GayLynn Johnston of Palestine, Tex., James Murphy Jr. of Tyler, Tex., David Murphy of Chandler, Tex., Jahia Murphy and Michelle Johnson, both of Columbia, Mo., Misty Brown of Dallas, Tex., Erika Bond of Antioch, Tenn.; stepchildren, Victoria Bumbalough, Deana Wallace, Tim Alexander and Andy Alexander, all of Tennessee; brothers, Wally Murphy of Florida and Paul Murphy; sisters, Doris Borgmeyer and Patricia Stockman, both of Jefferson, Mo., Kelly and Heather of Columbia, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16 in Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Smyrna, Tenn. Burial followed in Mapleview cemetery.
