Myrtle Huff
Mrs. Myrtle Hunter Huff, age 95, resident of Watson, Okla., died Monday, May 16, 2005 in a local nursing home.
She was born April 24, 1910 in Athens to the late William Ambrose and Sarah Arzella Bailey Hunter; was a supervisor with Modock Ranch; over orchards; trained personnel in bud grafting and pruning trees; and was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mose Huff, in Dec. 1975; three sons; and one daughter.
She is survived by two sons, Willis Huff of White City, Ore., and Lefty Huff of Phoenix, Ore.; five daughters, Oma Pomroy of White City, Ore., Mary Newson of Potter, June Mason of St. Louis, Mo., Sheila Carlin of Medford, Ore., and Roma Toon of Smithville, Okla.; one sister, Linda McGillivray of Coeur D. Alene, Ida.; 40 grandchildren; 120 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 in the Sulphur Springs Missionary Baptist Church, under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
Dorothy Ellen Stewart
Mrs. Dorothy Ellen Stewart, age 78, resident of De Queen, died Friday, June 10, 2005.
She was born April 2, 1927 to William and Rachael Wolcott Burrow; and was a retired housekeeper for the De Queen School System.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ed Stewart; her parents; William and Rachel Burrow; and two brothers, Lonnie Burrow and Clarence Burrow.
She is survived by one son, Mike Stewart of De Queen; three daughter, Bonnie Lambeth, Charlene Lambeth and Beverly Peugh, all of De Queen; two sisters, Flora Casner of Dennard and Mae Wolcott of De Queen; three brothers, James Burrow of De Queen, Eugene Burrow of Lockesburg, and David Burrow of Fairbanks, Ak.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 13 in Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church with Glen Farnsworth and Tommy Blount officiating. Burial followed in Beacon Hill under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
James Kelly
James Kelly, age 87, resident of Wickes, died Monday, May 23, 2005 in Brookewood Nursing Center.
He was born June 18, 1917 in Manchester, Tex., to John and Elizabeth Whitson Kelly; and was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Henry Kelly, Arch Kelly, John Kelly and Eugene Kelly; three sisters, Minnie Dean, Zelma Clow and Dessie Bennett; two sons, Byron Kelly and Lawrence Kelly; and one granddaughter, Catherine Kelly.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Gaddis Kelly of Wickes; four sons, Don Kelly of Platter, Okla., Dale Kelly of Ft. Worth, Tex., Glynn Kelly and Larry Kelly, both of Hatfield; two daughters, Dywone Brittian of Snyder, Tex., and Marie Crow of Wickes; one sister, Pearl Guinn of Paris, Tex.; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 26 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Woodland cemetery in Woodland, Tex.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 Wednesday, May 25 at the funeral home.
Mary Josephine Bennett
Mary Josephine Bennett, age 84, resident of De Queen, and formerly of Nashville, died Saturday, June 4, 2005.
She was born June 22, 1920 in Hot Springs to the late Samuel Walter and Pearl Josephine Kirkham Thomas; and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bennett; one son, Dearl Fene Steele; four brothers, Loy, Date, Dolphin and Samuel; one sister, Retta; and one granddaughter, Barbara Lee Titus Johnson.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Dureal Titus of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Pearl Peepoles of Texarkana; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 10 in Antoine cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home.
Vivian Stephens Gore
Mrs. Vivian Stephens Gore, age 93, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, June 11, 2005 in Brookewood Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 18, 1911 in Texas to William Thomas and Sara Ann Benight Stephens; was a homemaker; and a member of De Queen Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin O. Gore.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13 in Redmen cemetery with James McRae, minister officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
George Virdo Kirby
Mr. George Virdo Kirby, age 76, a resident of Dierks, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at his home.
He was born November 29, 1928 in Howard County to John and Arabia Jacobs Kirby. He was a heavy equipment contractor, rancher, and a member of the Burg Church of Christ.
Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Kirby, and one sister, Virgie Jackson.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Chandler Kirby; two sons, Jerry Kirby and Steve Kirby, both of Dierks; one daughter, Janette Bearden of Umpire; seven grandchildren, Tammy Williams, Marty Bearden, Laci Kirby, Billy Bob Kirby, Derek Kirby, Devin Kirby, and Laken Kirby; seven great-grandchildren, five nieces, and one nephew.
Funeral Services for Mr. Kirby were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2005 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Tommy Mounts and Bill Tarlton officiating. Burial followed in the Burg cemetery.
The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m., Saturday, June 4, at the funeral home in Dierks.
Quentin Roosevelt Dorsett
Quentin Roosevelt Dorsett, age 87, resident of Bealeton, VA, died Friday, May 20, 2005 in Virginia.
He was born Nov. 20, 1917 in Lockesburg to James and Ruth Dorsett; was a heavy equipment operator for Weyerhaeuser; and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Dorsett.
Survivors are three sons, Kenneth Dorsett of Cape May, NJ, Jim Dorsett of Woodbury, NJ, and Robert Dorsett of Bealeton, VA; one daughter, Marilyn Cox of Idabel, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 26 in Clear Creek cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
