Delra Fern Hughes
Mrs. Delra Fern Weeks Hughes, age 91, resident of Clearfield, Utah, and formerly of Horatio, died Friday, May 27, 2005.
She was born Friday, May 8, 1914 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Samuel Thomas and Mary Marie “Molly” Macku Weeks; graduated from St. Anthony’s Hospital School of Nursing in Oklahoma City in 1935 where she became a registered nurse working in surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and general medicine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everette Ishmael “Billy” Hughes; and a grandchild.
She is survived by two sons, George E. Hughes of Tappahannock, Va., and James B. Hughes of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Billie Rae Ririe of Kaysville, Utah; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6 in Horatio cemetery with Pres. Gene Griffith officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends on Sunday, June 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Francisco Nito Martinez
Francisco Nito Martinez, age 27, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 near Eagletown, Okla.
He was born Oct. 6, 1977 in Mexico to Antonio Castro and Clemencia Martinez Morales; and was a tree planter and trimmer.
Funeral services will be held at Cortazar, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Viewing was Tuesday, May 17 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Clyta Tallman
Clyta Merle Gore Tallman, age 80, a resident of Horatio, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 in the De Queen Medical Center.
She was born October 4, 1924 in Horatio to Wiley W. and Carrie Belle Gore. She was retired from the Sevier County Treasurer's Office, a member of the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and a member of the De Queen Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Tallman was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B. Tallman on July 3, 2003, and one daughter, Linda Hedden on December 27, 2003.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Judy Tallman; one daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Donnie Walker, all of Horatio; one son-in-law, Glen Hedden of Little Rock; three sisters, Doris Kitzman, Anita Keen and Shirley Gore, all of Horatio; six grandchildren, Mark Walker, Brian Walker, Travis Tallman, Lisa Wall, Shauna Tice, and Richie Hill; 12 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Tallman were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2005 in the Millwee cemetery with Rev. Byron Sullivan and Rev. J. L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the De Queen Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary.
Erma E. Erickson
Erma E. Erickson, age 93, resident of Texarkana, Tex., died Friday, May 20, 2005 in a local nursing care facility.
She was born Aug. 9, 1911 in Ogden, Utah; and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, John Erickson of El Dorado; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25 in Rondo cemetery with Rev. Dudley Childs officiating, under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home.
JERRY WHITLEY
Jerry Dwight Whitley was born in De Queen, Arkansas on October 29, 1945 to Marvin and Ethel Whitley. Jerry served 14 years on the Police Department and 18 years as a volunteer Fire Fighter in De Queen. He then served 2 years as Chief of Police in Oklahoma. After retiring from Law Enforcement, Jerry worked as a manager for Gordon's Jewelers and then began a new career as a Private Investigator which he continued from 1984 until his illness rendered him unable to continue to do so in 2000.
He also worked part-time with his home based business in Van Alstyne.
Jerry Whitley was a Christian and loved God more each day. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Howe, Texas
Jerry is survived by his wife, Alta Whitley; son and daughter-in-law, Theron and Janna Whitley; granddaughter, Ashlynn Whitley and grandson, Caden Whitley all of Van Alstyne; sister, Roxy Stephens and husband, Harvey of De Queen, Arkansas; brother, Billy Whitley and wife, Jan of West Lake, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Howe with Rev. Roger Tidwell officiating.
Interment followed at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
Leslie Gene Sharp
Leslie Gene Sharp, age 55, resident of Gillham, died Monday, May 9, 2005 at his home.
He was born July 5, 1949 in De Queen to Leslie Guy and Lillie Nelson Sharp; and was a member of Wickes Pentecostal Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggi Ann Sharp; and one sister, Gennevieve Brake.
He is survived by Clint Sharp of Mena; two daughters, Starla Smith and Tonya Blackmon, both of Grannis; one brother, Doyle Wayne Sharp of Nashville; three sisters, Nancy Lou Gomance of Hot Springs, Mary Sue Cook of Hugo, Okla., and Betty Faye Driver of Mena; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12 in Wickes Pentecostal Church of God with Bro. Chris Burke officiating. Burial followed in Valley cemetery in Gillham, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 at the funeral home.
Betty Gentry
Mrs. Betty Gentry, age 62, resident of Grannis, died Friday, May 13, 2005 in Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana.
She was born Feb. 8, 1943 at Wickes to James E. and Mary Catherine Jones Brett; and was a retired farmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dean Gentry; and one son, Dean Gentry.
She is survived by a son, Brett Gentry of Mena; a son, Nila Hackworth of Grannis; her father, James E. Brett; a brother, Jasper Brett of Wickes; a sister, Christine Pinson of Langley; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 16 in Duckett cemetery with Bro. Scott Ray officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
