Lloyd Dale Tabler
Lloyd Dale Tabler, age 63, resident of Glenwood and formerly of Umpire, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005 in Glenwood.
He was born Dec. 28, 1941 to Doyal and Agnes Tabler Harris; was a 1959 graduate of Dierks High School; a self-employed grocery store owner and farmer; an Weyerhaeuser employee for 14 years; a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard; and a member of Green’s Chapel Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Dorotha Sue Jacobs Tabler on Feb. 27, 2001; and one brother, Mike Harris.
He is survived by one son, Kenny Tabler of Umpire; two sisters, Audrey Jones of Talent, Ore., and Sharon Ransom of Fairfield Bay; his mother, Agnes Harris of Lockesburg; two stepchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2 in Green’s Chapel Methodist Church near Dierks with Bro. Don Vaughn and Bro. Stan Kesterson officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery near Umpire under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 at the funeral home in Dierks.
Wanda Smith
Wanda Smith, 80, of Conway, Ark. passed away October 30, 2005 at Conway Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Conway, Ark. She was born September 24, 1925, in Cerro Gorda, Ark.
Wanda was affiliated with the First Assembly of God Church, Broken Bow, Okla. She liked to read her Bible and loved the Lord her entire life. Wanda also enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Vivian and Parthenia Smith Hopson; her ex-husband, Edmond B. Smith; one son, Dennis Edmond Smith; one sister, Francis Pence, and two brothers, Charles and Sherman Hopson.
Wanda leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Jerril Smith, Conway, Ark.; Robert Darrel Smith, Alabama; Paul Martin Smith, North Corona, Calif., and John Michael Smith, Scooba, Miss.; two brothers, Paul Hopson, Cash, Texas, and Roger Hopson, Gardner, Kan.; three sisters, Wilma Bingham, Topeka, Kan.; Betty Whaley, Talbot, Tenn., and Carol Root, Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2005, at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, Okla. Burial followed at Hochatown cemetery, Hochatown, Okla. Bro. LaRoi Woods officiated.

Carl E. Lovell
Carl E. Lovell, age 91, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at his home with his family.
He was born July 29, 1914 in Walnut Springs Community to Forrest Melvin and Hettie Lee Wilsford Lovell. Mr. Lovell was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, Andrew of San Antonio, Texas, Earnest, Forrest, Cecil, Dewitt and Calvin, of De Queen, Melvin of Ashdown, Oma of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Mae Dunham of Texarkana, a grandson, Jonathan Pettigrew of Murfreesboro, and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Owens Lovell of Big Spring, Texas.
Mr. Lovell is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ferrell Butler Lovell of De Queen; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwayne Lovell of Big Spring, Texas, and Leonard and Sharon Lovell of Ashdown, Ark.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Edwinia and Don McCoy of De Queen, Carletta and Robbie Pettigrew of Murfreesboro, and Judy Johnson of De Queen; one sister, Eunice Nix of Fort Worth, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Lovell were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2005 in the De Queen Church of Christ with Bro. Tommy Mounts and Alonzo Pettigrew officiating. Burial followed in the Millwee cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Alta Faye Whiteley
Alta Faye Whiteley, age 78, resident of Lawton, Okla., and formerly of Wickes, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005 in Lawton.
She was born Sept. 22, 1927 in Orr, Okla., to Cleve and Effie Lyle; was a home-maker; and a member of Lighthouse Church of God in Lawton. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virgie Lyle and Gladys Price; and two brothers, George Lyle and Loyd Lyle.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin L. Whiteley of Lawton, Okla.; a son, Jackie Don Hoskison of Lawton, Okla.; a daughter, Peggy Billen of Mena; a brother, Jimmy Lyle of Wickes; two sisters, Sue Fruen of Hatfield and Shirley Powell of Mena; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 in Wickes Pentecostal Church of God with Bro. Chris Burke and Bro. Delbert Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Baker cemetery at Wickes under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Ruby B. Jester Cannon
Ruby B. Jester Cannon, age 72, a resident of Lockesburg, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 in Hot Springs, AR.
She was born March 21, 1933 in Arkansas to Elbert and Ivy Henderson Jester. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Eugene Cannon on March 14, 1995; one daughter, Diana Sue Martz in 1974; one grandson, Blake Cannon.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Eugene Cannon of Lockesburg; three sisters, Lou Jester of Rosemand, CA, Sue Jamison of De Queen, and Connie Yvonne Renfrow of Nashville, AR; and two grandchildren.
Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Cannon were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2005 in the McHorse cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Mr. Benjamin Franklin Hendrix
Mr. Benjamin Franklin Hendrix, age 80, a resident of Ashdown, Ark. died Sunday, October 23, 2005 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.
He was born February 22, 1925 in Norman, Arkansas. He was retired from the U.S. Army, was a former Civil Service employee, and attended the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wandel L. Hendrix; and a son, Billy Ray Hendrix.
He is survived by two sons, John Hendrix of Ashdown, Ark., and Michael Hendrix, also of Ashdown; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services with Military Honors for Mr. Hendrix were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in the McHorse cemetery with Pastor Jim Harris officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Marilinda Jones
Marilinda Jones, age 83, resident of Ashdown, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 in a Texarkana hospital.
Mrs. Jones was born October 10, 1922 in Ben Lomond to Robert and Mae Hill; was a member of Ben Lomond Methodist Church; and worked for many years for Welch’s Department Store and Lee’s Jewelers in Ashdown. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thomas Franklin Jones.
She is survived by one son, Franky Jones; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in Ben Lomond Methodist Church with Rev. Butch Riddle officiating. Burial followed in Ben Lomond cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, De Queen.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown.
