Wayne D. Smith
Wayne D. Smith, age 69, a resident of Lockesburg, died Sunday, November 27, 2005 in Christus St. Michaels Health System in Texarkana.
He was born March 13, 1936 in Wright's Chapel Community in Lockesburg to Raymond Rollo and Mattie Ethel West Smith.
He was retired from the Lone Star Ammunition Plant and was a member of the Milford Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith enjoyed deer hunting, playing guitar, singing, and tinkering with J. C. Pell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Mr. Smith is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Wayne and Judy Smith of De Queen; one daughter and son-in-law, Claudine and Shayne Tompkins of Lockesburg; a special friend and mother of his children, Anna Smith of Lockesburg; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Jarred Smith of De Queen, and Tristan Tompkins of Lockesburg; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, J. C. and Margaret Pell, and Shelba Smith, all of Lockesburg; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Emily Comella and Nolen Proctor of Lockesburg and Mary Louise and Bill Waits of Graniteville, SC; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Smith were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2005 in the Wright's Chapel cemetery with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family was at the home of Anna Smith, 132 W. Spruce Street in Lockesburg.
Mrs. Charlotte Ann Johnson Crenshaw Cannon
Mrs. Charlotte Ann Johnson Crenshaw Cannon, age 65, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005 at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1940 at De Queen to Jesse Wayne and Ruth E. Rink Johnson; was a 1958 graduate of De Queen High School; a retired rancher and U.S. Mail Carrier; and a member of First Baptist Church of De Queen.
She was preceded in death by her mother; and her first husband, Jerry Crenshaw.
She is survived by her husband, Elbie K. Cannon of De Queen; one son, Kelly Crenshaw of Fayetteville; two stepsons, Elbie K. Cannon Jr. of De Queen and Anthony Cannon of Fort Hood, Tex.; three stepdaughters, Tammy Arnson and Laura Lange, both of Houston, Tex., and Debbie Harris of Greenville, Miss.; two brothers, Neal Johnson of Ashdown and Dr. Wayne Johnson of Houston, Tex.; four sisters, Nita Jean Gentry of De Queen, Phyllis Gaddis of Hot Springs, Margie Christie of Nashville and Carla Currence of Garvin, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. L. Walker officiating.
Burial followed in Redmen cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
Thomas Nelson McCarley
Thomas Nelson McCarley, age 94, resident of Wickes, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 in De Queen.
He was born March 17, 1911 in Plain Dealing, La., to William Campbell and Ada Scott McCarley; was a poultry farmer and cattle rancher; and a member of the Polk County Farm Bureau and the Sevier County Cattlemen’s Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Lee Baker McCarley; an infant son, Darrell Wingo McCarley; two brothers, Alton McCarley and Kelly McCarley; and a sister, Mildred McCarley.
He is survived by a daughter, Darlene Roberts of Wickes; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25 in Wickes Nazarene Church with Bro. David Baker and Bro. Riley Donica officiating.
Burial will follow in Baker cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Dovie Oliver
Dovie Oliver, age 91, resident of Dardanelle and formerly of Russellville, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005 in Russellville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 22, 1914 in Pleasant Home Community to Murd and Mamie Womack Riddle; and was a member of West Side Church of Christ in Russellville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, A.T. Oliver; a son, T.L. Oliver; a daughter, Patsy Leavell; and a sister, Naomi Erickson.
She is survived by three sons, Jay Oliver of Tyler, Tex., Bill Oliver of Springfield, Mo., and Mike Oliver of Russellville; two daughters, Annette Eastwood of De Queen and Margaret Derryberry of Hazen; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 in Pleasant Home cemetery near Murfreesboro, under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Althon Heuel Adair
Althon Heuel Adair, age 81, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005 in Christus St. Michael Hospital at Texarkana.
He was born Sept. 19, 1924 in Sevier County to Ellis and Mae Gore Adair; was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army then later transferring to the U.S. Air Force with the Air Operations Specialist in the 621st Aircraft Control; was a member of First Baptist Church; and was a retired construction supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Adair and Hubert Adair; a daughter, Alana Faye Whisenhunt; and two grandchildren, Carey Lee Elrod and Gabriel Keith Adair.
He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Freda Parks Adair of De Queen; one son, Althon H. “Al” Adair Jr. of El Dorado; two daughters, Pam Elrod of Longview, Tex., and Lisa Wray of Lockesburg; one sisters, Marge Barrick of Orange, Tex.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 in Mineral cemetery at Gillham with Bro. Benny Parks officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov 14 at the funeral home.
Sara Jo Mills Elliott
Sara Jo Mills Elliott, age 75, a resident of De Queen, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006 in the Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana.
She was born on September 23, 1930, in De Queen, Arkansas to James and Grace Beaver Mills.
She was the retired owner of Rose Hill Flower Shop and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Barbara Ann.
Mrs. Elliott is survived by her husband, L.P. Elliott, of De Queen; her children, Kerry and Kent Harrison, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Roger and Denise Elliott, of Ruston, Louisiana; Greg Elliott and Jerry Hooker, of Little Rock, Arkansas; Donna and Wayne Cameron, of Texarkana, Arkansas; and Julia Elliott of De Queen; two sisters, Jimmie Stinnett and Joy Tutt, both of De Queen; four grandchildren, David, Grant, Jordan, and Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Will; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elliott were held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2006 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Rockey Starnes officiating.
Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery.
Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2006, at the funeral home.
