Elton Ray “Bud” Shaw
Elton Ray “Bud” Shaw passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 in his home in Newhope, Arkansas at the age of 84.

Bud was born January 16th, 1937 to the late Willie and Eunice Shaw of Newhope. He learned the value of hard work early on and used this to build a beautiful life and family with his wife Pat of 63 years. He started his career by operating a dozer and a motor grader for Dierks and even working on the railroad. After that, he decided to move into the logging industry. He and his crew cut and hauled high line poles by hand with the help of a team of mules, including Shorty and Shine, he took great pride in.

He also hauled pulpwood with his crew for several years. Eventually, Bud and Pat bought a chicken and cattle farm where they built a home and raised their family. His wife, Pat, tended to the farm and kids while Bud continued to work out, but it was not uncommon for him to work on the farm or in the chicken houses until after midnight when he finished his “day” job. After hauling pulpwood, Bud then started running a crew that built roads for Dierks. He eventually bought this business out and built roads for Weyerhaeuser for many, many years. Eventually, he retired from building roads. He spent his retirement working the chicken houses, custom hay baling, and raising cattle. He took great pride in his bulls specifically and worked them for hours each day.

In what little spare time he had, Bud enjoyed horse shows, cow sales, and going to church every Sunday. Bud enjoyed cooking breakfast and chocolate gravy was his specialty. He loved spending time with family and taking his grandkids out to check cows or exploring the farm. He was great at storytelling, especially tall tales, and he also liked to sing silly songs to make people laugh. He knew the value of hard work, but he also knew the value of faith and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Eunice Shaw; maternal grandparents Weaver and Cindy Turner; paternal grandparents Frank and Della Shaw; one brother Joel Dwayne Shaw; one sister Mary Lou Yeargen; and an infant daughter DeAnna Rae Shaw.

Bud is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Sue Shaw; brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shaw of Newhope, Arkansas; his brother and sister-in law Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Shaw of Lockesburg, Arkansas; his son Rick and wife Belinda Shaw of Wesley, Arkansas; his daughter LaDonna and husband Karl White of Dierks, Arkansas; his daughter LaRae and husband Paul Seay of Nashville, Tennessee; Dierks; grandchildren, Ashley Shaw of Denver, McKenna and Rick Jewell of Watson, Garrett Robertson of Umpire, Justin Seay of Fayetteville, and Austin Seay of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren Weston and Jack Wyatt Jewell of Watson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 26, 2021 in the Newhope Freewill Baptist Church in Newhope, Arkansas with Scott Vaughn and Don Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Bissell Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
