Ella Godwin
Mrs. Ella L. French Godwin, age 90, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, July 12, 2003 in the Brookewood Nursing Home, De Queen.
She was born to James Monroe and Mary Thomas French at Gillham, Arkansas, on November 3, 1912. She was a member of the Kern Heights Baptist Church of De Queen, and was a homemaker. She married
Walter H. Godwin in the Mt. Ida Community on Feb. 7, 1931. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, fishing, and her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Ronald Edward Godwin; and a daughter, Jean Sharon Godwin.
She is survived by her husband of almost 73 years, Walter H. Godwin of De Queen; four daughters and sons-in-law: Sybil and Arlie Staggs of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Peggy and Jay L. Jones of De Queen; Shirley Staggs of De Queen; and Judy and Tommy Moore also of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law: Gailon and Jamie Godwin of De Queen; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Godwin were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2003 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Noel and Rev. Dan Eakin officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Ida cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family received friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 14.
Mary Bell Turner
Mary Bell Kesterson Turner, age 87, resident of Dierks, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 in Howard County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9 in Holly Creek Baptist Church in Dierks with Rev. Larry Albritton officiating. Burial was at 5 p.m. in Shady Grove cemetery at Clarendon under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
She was born Oct. 10, 1915 in Howard County to Minnie and George Kesterson; and was a member of Holly Creek Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, John M. Turner; two sons, Dale Turner and Milburn Turner; two brothers, Burly Kesterson and Burnis Kesterson; and one grandson, Johnny Comstock.
She is survived by her children, George Turner, Jay Turner and Rosa Lee West, all of Dierks, Jane Comstock of Bakersfield, Calif., Mary Vance of Brinkley, and Kaye Reynaud of Hughes Springs, Tex.; and 63 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8 at the funeral home in Dierks.
Mary Belle Farley
Mrs. Mary Belle Chesshir Farley, age 92, resident of Dierks, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 4 in Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae and Lowell Lites, ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in Dierks cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
She was born July 7, 1910 near Nashville to Henry Pickens and Kate Clardy Chesshir; was a homemaker; and a member of Dierks Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her husband, Ed Farley, on July 9, 1996.
She is survived by one daughter, Edna Earle Cox of Dierks; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 3 at the funeral home.
Barbara Prescott
Mrs. Barbara Elizabeth Prescott, age 83, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 13, 1919 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Harry and Mary Moody Carne. She was a retired secretary receptionist for Lawrence Paper Company in Kansas City, a member of the First United Methodist Church in De Queen, Chapter 241 Order of Eastern Star, and Chapter B P.E.O. in De Queen.
Mrs. Prescott is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Linda and Richard Ridlon of De Queen and Marion Prescott of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services for Mrs. Prescott were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Fish officiating. Interment followed in the Redmen cemetery.

Edward Carlton
Edward Carlton, age 56, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, June 14, 2003 in Baptist Medical Center at Little Rock.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 in Memorial Missionary Baptist Church of De Queen with Rev. Joe Carlton and Rev. Jim Elphinston officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral home of De Queen.
He was born Sept. 13, 1946 in Selma to Charles Nathaniel and Martha Virginia Hines Carlton; was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Air Force; was an employee of Libla Communications; and a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church of De Queen.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Boulet Carlton of De Queen; three sons, Scott Carlton and Joseph Carlton, both of De Queen, and Sean Michael Carlton of Wickes; one sister, Virginia Dodd of De Queen; one niece; and five nephews.

Juanita Green
Mrs. Juanita "Muffett" Walters Green, age 79, of Texarkana, Tex. and a former resident of De Queen died Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Reunion Plaza Retirement Center in Texarkana, Tex.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1st, at the First United Methodist Church in De Queen with Rev. Bill Fish officiating. Burial was in the Redmen cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.

Mrs. Green was born June 8, 1924 at Dierks. She was a secretary for the De Queen Public School System and a member of the United Methodist Church in De Queen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Green, and a brother, Mitchell Walters.
She is survived by three daughters: Karen Granderson of Ft. Worth, Tex., Cheryl Thomas of Atlanta, Tex., and Joy Allen of Texarkana, Tex.; one sister: Lucille Chandler of Dierks; and three grandchildren.
Geneva Pearl Johnson
Geneva Pearl Waltz Johnson, age 84 resident of Horatio, died Friday, May 23, 2003 in Brookewood Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Shiloh cemetery at Texarkana.
She was born June 11, 1918 at Joplin, Mo., to William Warren Waltz and Cordia Lee Gatson Waltz; was a retired custodian for the Sevier County Courthouse; and a charter member of Nix Chapel Church. She was predeceased by six sisters, two brothers; her son, Clarence Glenn Johnson; a grandson, Marty Leon Alexander; and her husband, Clarence Edward "Jake" Johnson.
She is survived by three daughters, Dixie Alexander Koch of Horatio, Patricia Willard of Nashville, and Jacqueline Johnson of Horatio; a brother, Harry Waltz of Bakersfield, Calif.; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Obie Whitmore
Obie Whitmore, age 80, resident of Ashdown, died Thursday, May 22, 2003 in a Texarkana hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24 in Red Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. S.E. Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Red Oak Grove cemetery under the direction of Moore’s Funeral Home of Ashdown.
He was born Nov. 10, 1922 in Richmond; was a retired farmer; and a member of St. Luke Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Whitmore; eight sons, Otis Whitmore of Dallas, Tex., Lessie Whitmore of Junction City, Kan., Roger Whitmore of Horatio, Obie Whitmore Jr., Robert Whitmore, Jack Whitmore, Robert Whitmore and Manuel Whitmore, all of Fayetteville; two daughters, Beverly Jones of Texarkana and Bobbie Nash of Fayetteville; one sister, Katie Steward of Texarkana; 31 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Friday, May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
