AUBREY LEWIS HENDRIX

Mr. Aubrey Lewis "Poker" Hendrix, age 76, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born on April 5, 1927 in Horatio, Arkansas to James E. and Ruthie Van Trees Hendrix. He was a retired machinist for Wade's Manufacturing and a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Hendrix was preceded in death by his wife: Lova Hendrix in 1992; one sister: Inez Lester and two brothers: Barney Hendrix and Fay Hendrix.

He is survived by two sons: Gary Hendrix and wife, Julie of Clackamas, Oregon and Ricky Hendrix of Portland, Oregon, one granddaughter: Sarah Hendrix of Clackamas; two sisters: Iona Munn of De Queen and Ivy Dunlap of Peoria, Arizona; one brother: Pete Hendrix and wife Dorothy of De Queen and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hendrix were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Van Ledbetter officiating. Burial was under the direction of Riverview Abbey Funeral Home in Portland in the Williamette National cemetery.

Wilburn B. "Pete" Lee

Wilburn B. "Pete" Lee, age 96, resident of Dierks, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 in Howard County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30 in McHorse Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Eason and Bro. Larry Parson officiating. Burial followed in McHorse cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

He was born Thursday, May 16, 1907 in the Provo Community to Joe Dennis and Annie Gentry Lee; was a retired cattle rancher; and attended McHorse Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Abney Lee of Dierks; a son, Floyd Lee of Redlick, Tex.; two daughters, Virginia Kitchens and Dierks and Joyce Dodson of Gresham, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one niece and one nephew.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at the funeral home in Dierks.

Elberteen Mounts

Mrs. Elberteen Pate Mounts, age 71, resident of Dierks, died Friday, May 16, 2003 in Nashville.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19 in Dierks Church of Christ with ministers James McRae and Kenny Fant officiating. Burial followed in Dierks cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

She was born June 4, 1931 in Athens to Jessie Rector Pate and Faye Davis Pate; was a homemaker; and a member of Dierks Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her husband, T.W. "Wilburn" Mounts on July 7, 2002; and one brother, J.W. Pate.

She is survived by four sons, Terry Mounts, Jerry Mounts and Donnie Mounts, all of Dierks, and Ronnie Mounts of New Hope; two brothers, O.V. Pate of Langley and Perry Kykendall of Dierks; three sisters, Imogene Stokes of Dierks, Linda Otwell of Sarepta, La., and Betty Hensley of Minden, La.; 10 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Mildred Seely Tollett

Mrs. Mildred Seely Tollett, age 89, of De Queen, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2003. Mrs. Tollett was born March 25, 1914 in Clarksville, Texas to Matt and Eunice Baker Hill. She was a member of the Rock Hill Baptist Church, a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tollett will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Greens Chapel cemetery.

Mrs. Tollett was preceded in death by two sisters: Ivy Hill and Swan Breedlove; three brothers: Lloyd, Dee and Randolph Hill; and one grandson: Paul Hanks.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ruben Tollett; one daughter: Linda Kay Power of De Queen; three sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmie and RaJohnia Tollett, Lovell and Betty Tollett and Glen Dale and Susie Tollett, all of De Queen; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law: Evelyn and Lorraine Sims of Houston, Texas and Barbara and Rodney Hanks of Morgan City, Louisiana; one stepson and daughter-in-law: Marvin and Jean Tollett of De Queen; one sister: Annie Faye Sharp of De Queen; two brothers: Hal Hill of De Queen and L. A. Hill of Midland, Texas; three granddaughters: Jennifer Tollett Graves of Redfield, Arkansas, Terri Tollett Wilkerson and Julie Tollett of De Queen; four grandsons: Lucas Power of Dierks, Marcus Power of De Queen, Rance Tollett of Houston, Texas and Jason Tollett of Mobile, Alabama; five step-granddaughters: Becci Sims Himes of Houston, Texas, Shelly Sims Youngblood of Boiling Springs, North Carolina, Kelly Sims Economou of Kansas City, Missouri, Barbara Hanks Fowards of Sildell, Louisiana and Theresa Hanks Fevrejean of Caplan, Louisiana; and two step-grandsons: Rodney (Doc) Hanks of De Queen and Marvin Hanks of Morgan City, Louisiana; five great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mattie Eugenia Bearden

Ms. Mattie Eugenia Tatum Bearden, age 95, resident of Richardson, Tex., died Friday, May 9, 2003 in Richardson.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17 in Belleville cemetery with Rev. Lynn McClure officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.

She was born Aug. 9, 1907 in Bluffton to Edward L. and Anice Helen Tatum; graduated from Lockesburg High School and attended Arkansas State Teachers College; worked as a teacher in Prescott and later for the Veteran’s Administration in Little Rock for 28 years; and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by five brothers, four sisters, a daughter, Virginia Green; and a grandson.

She is survived by one son, Lee I. Bearden Jr. of Marshall, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Belleville cemetery Association, %Jim Graves, treasurer, 736 TJ King Road, Lockesburg, AR 71846.

Darrell Fayne Leeper Sr.

Darrell Fayne Leeper Sr., age 76, resident of Grannis, died Sunday, April 27, 2003 in University of Arkansas Medical Hospital at Little Rock.

Cremation arrangements were by Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen. A memorial service will be held later at First Baptist Church of Gillham with Rev. Bob McManus officiating.

He was born March 11, 1927 at Sardis to Joseph Holman and Gladys Crow Leeper; was a retired truck driver; and a member of First Baptist Church of Gillham. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Vada Rogers Leeper; and three brothers, Harold Leeper, Winfred Leeper and Todd Leeper; and a daughter, Dana Leeper.

He is survived by five children, Charlotte Martin of Gillham, Shanda Diehle of St. Charles, Mo., Darrell "Chip" Leeper of Gillham, Joel Leeper of Richmond, Va.; and Kelly Schell of Shell Rock, Iowa; three sisters, Betty Jo Curlee of Houston, Tex., Bobbye Bond of Hobbs, NM, and Billye Prince of Shreveport, La.; five grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Gillham First Baptist Church bus fund.

Rick "Sly Dog" Minchew

Rick "Sly Dog" Minchew, age 38, of Langley, died Thursday, May 1, 2003.

He was born on June 9, 1964 in Saugus, California. On February 14, 1986, he was married to Tawnya Jester.

He was a truck driver and attended the Daisy Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Tawnya Minchew of Langley; five sons: Stephen Minchew of Eagletown, Oklahoma, Cody Richter, Kyle Minchew, Joseph Minchew and Jared Minchew all of Langley; his mother and step-father: Frances and Rick Martin of Grannis; his dad and step-mom: Charles and Kay Tidmore of Hugo, Oklahoma; his father and step-mom: Art and Eva Minchew of Battle Mountain, Nevada; one brother: Arnie Tidmore of Houston, Texas; two sisters: Charla Davis of McClenney, Georgia and Tasha Mitchell of Houston, Texas; one half-brother: Arthur Minchew, Jr., of Elko, Nevada; one half-sister: Doriene Minchew of Carlin, Nevada; his paternal grandmother, Opal Cambill of Battle Mountain, Nevada; his maternal grandmother: Murriel Menna of Canyon Country, California; and paternal grandfather, Elvis Tidmore of Wright City, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Gene Jester.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2003 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kyle Cowart and Bro. Kevin Jewell officiating.

Visitation was held on Sunday, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Interment was in the Mount Joy cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers were Rusty Jester, Randy Jester, Bill Crow, Sammy Star, Melvin Glover and Jeffery Hill.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Cowart, Travis Garner and Boots Donaldson.
