Bobby Joe Harper
Bobby Joe Harper, age 79, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Thursday, August 27, 2020, in Ashdown, Arkansas.

He was born March 18, 1941, in the Greens Chapel Community. Mr. Harper was a logger and a truck driver and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg since 1960. He enjoyed his grandchildren, his dogs, and helping others.

Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his parents; Robert Alexander and Ruby Mae Janes Harper; one brother, Wayne Cortez Gilbert; and one sister, Bea Hosey.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Leah Harper of Lockesburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Andrew Pope of Nashville, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Britney Mitchell, Shawn McWhorter, Ashley Coleman, Grayson Coleman, Austin O’Rand, Dustin Smith, Meagan Smith, Tyler Pope, Andrea Woodruff, and Julia Linhoff; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Harper will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Old New Hope Cemetery with Hershel Janes officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

General viewing will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, August 28th at the funeral home in De Queen.

The family requests that everyone wear a face mask and practice social distancing for safety.

Anna Sue Nelson
Mrs. Anna Sue Green Nelson, age 77, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life on Monday, August 24, 2020 at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, Shreveport, Louisiana.

She was born to Thurman Young and Ida Ella Sillavan Green on January 4, 1943 in Dierks, Arkansas. Sue was a 1961 graduate of De Queen High School and attended College of Redwoods in Eureka, California where she studied business. She later attended Cossatot Community College in De Queen where she studied nursing and gained her LPN license. After obtaining her license, Sue worked as a psychiatric nurse, working at Pinewood Hospital in Texarkana, Arkansas and later for Southwest Arkansas Counselling and Mental Health Center in Nashville and De Queen. She received several awards over the years including, Nurse of the Year in 1990, for her work at Pinewood Hospital, and Pinecone awards for outstanding work. She married the love of her life, Vernon Clyde Nelson, Jr., on March 17, 1968 at the Hydesville Community Church in Hydesville, California. She was a Baptist and member of Rose Hill Baptist Church in De Queen. She was a member of the national AARP chapter and enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and watching Nascar, but more than anything, she cherished the time spent with her family and time spent helping others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 30 years, Vernon Nelson, Jr.; two brothers, Jesse “Sonny” Green and Larry Green; and two sisters, Sonia Hankins and Nora Cunningham.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Anthony Floyd of De Queen; four grandchildren, Ashley (Cody) McLeod of Alexander, Arkansas, Morgan Floyd of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Kaitlyn and Haylee Floyd, both of De Queen; one great-grandson, Maddex McLeod of Alexander, Arkansas; as well as, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Sue Nelson will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 29, 2020 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Bowlin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.

The use of a face mask or covering will be required during your time at the funeral home. All other requirements and guidelines for social distancing must be followed.

Garlin Griffin
Mr. Garlin Steven Griffin, age 71, resident of Ashdown, Arkansas, passed from this life on Monday, August 24, 2020, at his home.

He was born to Clifford Calvin and Flossie Jean Dorsey Griffin on November 11, 1948 in Sentinel, Oklahoma. He married Judy Elizabeth Hedden on December 29, 1968, and to this union, three children were born. Garlin was a farmer and enjoyed his time raising cattle, hogs and chickens. He attended church at E.T. Allen Memorial Church in Ashdown, and in addition to farming, enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Virginia Sue Moore.

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Judy Griffin of Horatio; one daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Lydel Chandler of Horatio; one son, John Griffin of Horatio; seven grandchildren, Samantha Martz, Brittany (Drew) Smith, Lacey Hankins, Brianna (Dale) Wolcott, Aimee Griffin, Joshua Martz and Brian Moore; eleven great-grandchildren, Gracie, Brylee, Casen, Keller, Hadley, Ryder, Cahl, Finley, Blake, RaeAnn, and Payton; as well as, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services for Mr. Garlin Griffin will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 31, 2020 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray Cromer officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The use of a face mask or covering will be required during your time at the funeral home. All other requirements and guidelines for social distancing must be followed.

Tracy Allen Steward
Tracy Allen Steward, age 51, a resident of White Hall, Arkansas, formerly of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Saturday, August 22, 2020, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born June 5, 1969, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mr. Steward was a safety compliance officer for offshore oil companies, former reserve Sevier County Sheriff’s Deputy, and attended Old Union Church. He loved fishing, hunting, and anything outdoors.

Mr. Steward was preceded in death by his parents, William David Steward, Sr. and Judy Ann Crudup Steward.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Dinger Steward; one daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Austin Powell of White Hall; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda Steward of Lockesburg, Arkansas; and a number of other relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends

A memorial service for Mr. Steward will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Old Union Church with Jaron Tipton officiating. Cremation arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Family will receive friends at the Old Union Church after the service.

The family will be at the home of Allen and Marsha Peterson in De Queen until service time.

Vanessa Ann Villarreal
Miss Vanessa Ann Villarreal, age 31, resident of De Queen, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, August 23, 2020, in the CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas, with family by her side.

She was born in McAllen, Texas, on February 9, 1989 to Monique Moreno and Joe Manuel Villarreal. She was Homemaker and member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in De Queen. Vanessa enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her children and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Villarreal; a cousin, Noe Sifuentes, Jr.; and her grandmother, Ofelia Angeles.

She is survived by her children, Aaliyah Lannett Villarreal, and Melanie Alexa, Josiah Benjamin, and Mariah Monique Guerrero; her parents, Dario and Monique Angeles; six siblings and their spouses, Damian (Priscilla) Villarreal, Joe (Elizabeth) Villarreal, Karina (Carlos) Garcilazo, Abigail Angeles, Vanessa Cantu, and Angel Gomez; maternal grandparents, Raymundo (Mina) Martinez; paternal grandmother, Juana Villarreal; as well as, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Mass for Miss Vanessa Villarreal will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at St. Barbara Catholic Church, De Queen, with Father Ramses Mendieta officiating. A limit of fifty (50) people will be able to attend the church service. Public burial will follow at Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Monday, at the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel.

The use of a face mask or covering will be required during your time at the funeral home and church. All other requirements and guidelines for social distancing must be followed.

Mr. Emanuel Owen
Mr. Emanuel Lee Owen, age 84, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Thursday, August 20, 2020 at his home.

He was born to Arthur Lee and Fannie Ella Black Owen in Rome, Mississippi on July 10, 1936. He was a retired veteran of the U S Air Force, having served in both Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he worked in civil service. Emanuel was a Lutheran, and enjoyed clocks, hunting, fishing, but most of all, cherished the time spent with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hazel Elizabeth Dunn Owen, a son, Tommy Holliday, a daughter, Judy Cowen, a grandson, Stephen Tremblay, and his brothers, Charles and Cecil Owen.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Rusty Owen and Tracy Owen both of Conroe, Texas, two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Jerry Tennyson of Tennessee, and Tammy and Dale Gilbert of Jacksonville, Arkansas, 17 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

A private graveside service will be held in Charleston, Mississippi.

Mrs. Bobbie Annette Oliver Eastwood
Mrs. Bobbie Annette Oliver Eastwood, age 84, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, August 20, 2020, in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born December 29, 1935, in the Pleasant Home Community near Murfreesboro. Mrs. Eastwood worked at the Sevier County Library for 30 years and was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ. She loved to play dominoes with her friends, spend time at the library, read, put together puzzles, attend all of her great grandkid’s events, and spend time with her family.

Mrs. Eastwood was preceded in death by her parents, A.T. and Dovie Riddle Oliver; her husband, Alvis Eastwood; her brother, T.L. Oliver; her sister, Patsy R. Leavell; and a great grandson, Treyton Hogg.

She is survived by one son, Allen Eastwood of De Queen; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Robert Bray of Dierks, Arkansas; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William R. and Trish Oliver of Springfield, Missouri, Michael D. and Linda Oliver of Russellville, Arkansas, and Dwight Jay and Suzanne Oliver of Tyler, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret F. and Tom Derryberry of Wildersville, Tennessee; two granddaughters and their spouses, Adriana and Andy Hogg of Dierks and Tiffini and Leon Stone of Carthage, Texas; four great grandsons, Brayden Kirby, Austin Stone, Lawson Stone, and Lander Stone; two great granddaughters, Ally Hogg and Lilly Hogg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eastwood will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2020, at the De Queen Church of Christ with Toney Stowers and Andy Hogg officiating. Burial will follow in Redmen Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
