B. R. “Jack” House
B. R. “Jack” House, age 95, of Dierks, passed away Monday, January 20, 2020.

He was born on August 2, 1924, in Brushy, the son of Joel Ernest House and Martha Ida Pinkerton House. On April 14, 1984, he was married to Dorothea House. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alene House; two sons, Larry House and Kevin House; his parents; one brother, Doyle House; and two sisters, Winnie Matthews and Nora Faye Pate.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Bissell Chapel Church. He was employed with Phillips Petroleum for over thirty-five years until his retirement. One of his proudest memories was his twenty-five years he served as the Adult Sunday School teacher for the Holiness Church of Stinnett, Texas. He enjoyed fishing, working in his many gardens and especially loved to sing and play his guitar and harmonica, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jack was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He has truly left his family with a wonderful legacy of cherished memories for all to hold in their hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea House of Dierks; one son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Rhonda House of Langley; three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Don Schenk of Stinnett, Texas, Barbara and Scott Chambers and Joan and Joe Isham, all of Dierks; nineteen grandchildren, Chandra Budd, Lacy Schwab, Terry House, Brandon House, Scott House, Rodney Bell, Candy Bell, Robert Bell, Danielle Crawford, Jessica Cowart, Jami Mosley, Tiffany Smith, Jonathan Isham, Kara Moore, Stephanie Wrye, Jesse Wyre, Daniel Chambers, Samantha Chambers and Billy Chambers; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 24, 2020, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Jonathan Isham and Chaplain Mark Miller officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Interment will be in the Bissell Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses and staff of Dierksen Hospice of Texarkana.

Mr. David Gutierres
Mr. David Paul Gutierres, age 47, resident of Benton, Arkansas, passed from this life on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

He was the second of three children born to John H., Sr., and Laura June Blurton Gutierres on September 29, 1972 in Dallas, Texas. On February 17, 2018, David married Natasha Lynn Hollowell, whom he dearly loved. He was a member of the Horatio First Assembly of God and enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding four-wheelers, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leah Grace Gutierres.

He is survived by his loving wife, Natasha Gutierres of Benton; one daughter, Briana Corine Gutierres of Horatio; two sons, David Hayden Gutierres of Waco, Texas and Mason Snearly of Benton; one brother, John H. Gutierres, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Sharon Willis and her husband Coy of Horatio; nieces and nephews, Faith Willis, Levi Nottingham, Garret Nottingham, Cassia Gutierres, Abby Gutierres and Josh Gutierres; an aunt, Helen Fox and her husband John of Tyler, Texas; as well as, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. David Gutierres will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 25, 2020 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 24th, at the funeral home.

Mr. Ray Shickles
Mr. William Raymond “Ray” Shickles, age 81, resident of Ashdown, passed from this life on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at his home surrounded by family.

He was ninth of eleven children born to Chester E. and Sina Marie Smith Shickles on March 10, 1938 in Naylor, Missouri. Ray married the love of his life, JoAnn Mary Brophy, on June 6, 1969 in Rockford, Illinois. He proudly served with the United States Army and later received an Associates Degree from Rock Valley College in Rockford. He worked as a Tax Preparer, spending over 50 years in the Accounting business and once owned Shickles Tax Service. He enjoyed story telling and once fishing, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Jeffery Call; four brothers, Carson, Chester, Clyde and Joseph Shickles; two sisters, Gladys Creach and Zeta Brannum; and one brother-in-law, Harold Paris.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 50 years, JoAnn Shickles of Ashdown; four daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Marie Ditus (Geral) of Wellington, Colorado, Traci Lynn Call of Rockford, Illinois, Cherie Ann Barfield (Mike) of Gillham and Robin Renee Dorsey (Mark) of De Queen; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Blake, Kyle, Casey, Shelby, Lindsey and Lucas; fifteen great-grandchildren; four sisters and their spouses, Velma Paris of Rockford, Illinois, Martha Woods (Ron) of Doniphan, Missouri, Marjorie York (Dan) of Rockford, Illinois hazel Pickering of Gladstone, Missouri; as well as, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Per his request, services will not be scheduled. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Mr. Curtis Cox
Mr. Curtis Emerson Cox, age 79, resident of De Queen, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 16, 2020, in a Texarkana hospital.

He was born to Milton Fred and Minnie Mildred Emerson Cox on May 3, 1940 in Sevier County, Arkansas. Curtis was a 1958 graduate of the De Queen High School and attended the University of Arkansas on a football scholarship. Prior to high school graduation, Curtis was selected to play on the 1958 Arkansas High School All-Star Football Team and proudly served with the Army National Guard. He was a starting Linebacker for the Arkansas Razorback from 1959 to 1961. He also played as Runningback and he proudly wore #31. Curtis married the love of his life, Donna Jane Allen, on March 18, 1965 in De Queen. He worked for Southwest Arkansas REA for 42 years. He started his career as a Lineman and finished the last 15 years as District Manager. He was a Mason, member of Masonic Lodge 461 in De Queen, and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He held many offices and received the “Pillars of Solomon” award in 2008. He was the former Scout Master for De Queen Troop 55 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cooking and spending time outdoors, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leroy Cox and Dwayne Cox; and one sister, Willie Jean Simer.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 54 years, Donna Cox of De Queen; one son, Keith Allen Busby and his wife Vicki of Kirby; one daughter, Carla Jane Shelton and her husband Buddy of De Queen; three grandchildren, Bryan Scott Shelton and his wife Ashley of De Queen, Randall Eric Shelton and his wife Ashley of Mulberry and Callie Jane Busby of Kirby; one great-grandson, Jaxon Ty Shelton of De Queen; as well as, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Curtis Cox will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 19, 2020 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. George Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Saturday, January 18th, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Claudette Cubit Alvarez
Mrs. Claudette Lonjae Cubit Alvarez, age 46, resident of Springdale, Arkansas and former resident of De Queen, went to meet her Lord on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born to Walter Gene and Charlotte Marie Hill Cubit on March 24, 1973 in De Queen. She was a 1991 graduate of Wright city high School and later received her CNA license from a Springdale area college. She married the love of her life, David Oswaldo Alvarez on February 6, 2004 in Fayetteville. Claudette had a heart of a caretaker and spent many years of her life helping others at the Northwest Medical Center in Northwest Arkansas. While she loved her work in the medical field, shortly before Claudette became ill, she made a career change which brought her great joy. She was an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, North Carolina Tar Heels and the Tennessee Volunteers. She was a member of the FIrst Baptist Church in Wright City and enjoyed helping others, opening her home to her family and friends, fishing and gardening, but most of all, she cherished the time spent with her nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Cubit, and an uncle, Richard Hill.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, David Alvarez of Springdale; her mother, Charlotte Cubit of De Queen; two brothers, Walter Cubit, Jr. of Springdale and Bobo Stafford of Eagletown; two sisters, Paula Cubit and Naudi Powell, both of De Queen; her grandmother, Dixie Hill of De Queen; five nephews, Walterius Richard, Tyrone Cubit, Zaquavion Richard, Kyzier Fricks and Tarius Richard; eight nieces, Margaret Parker, Mya Parker, Kiara Baker, Jaquasha Richard, Jasmeen Cubit, Haylinn Mills, Tari Richard and Zariyah Wootton; seven aunts, Catherine Jordan (Charlie), Carolyn Young, Teresa Hill, Hazel Swift (Leroy), Sequtia Hill, Dorothy Elder (Robert) and Brenda Pennon; five uncles, Dwight Cubit (Evangeline), Lonnie Watson, Bobby Hill, Steve Hill and Clifford Hill; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Claudette Cubit Alvarez will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 18, 2020 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Sis. Sherry Grant officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 17th, at the funeral home.

James Arnold Jordan
Mr. James Arnold Jordan, age 75, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Foreman, died Monday, January 13, 2020, in De Queen.

He was born in Millerton, Oklahoma, on October 25, 1944 and was a graduate of Valliant High School. He worked as a truck driver and was a Baptist. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reg Jordan and Bettie Catherine Hester and Sam Curtis and Verda Tidwell Jordan; one son, Curtis Dean Jordan; two grandsons, Cody Jordan and Calvin James Woods; two stepsons, Ronnie Thorsby, and Rusty Thorsby; his wife, Jeanetta Val Jordan; one brother, Paul Jordan; and two sisters, Tommie Jordan Holman and Mary Jo Jordan.

He is survived by five daughters and a son-in-law, Renisa Thomas of Oklahoma City, Lisa Lopez of Broken Bow, Cathy Day of Horatio, Margie Shaw of Crossroads, and Carrie and Rudy Rivas of De Queen; fourteen grandchildren, Leticia Silva and Gloria Silva Bridges, both of Oklahoma City, Sammy Lee Lopez and Tevin Woods both of Broken Bow, Brittany Shaw, Scotty Shaw, Jessyca Hernandez and Hunter Day all of De Queen, Robin Jordan of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Seaerra Jordan of Hugo, Jerry Curtis Tabor of Haworth, Rustin Thorsby of Arizona, Carter Rivas and Elaina Rivas both of De Queen; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Jordan and Duskin Jordan; four sisters, Doris Jordan Farmer, Jerri Jordan Rice, Linda Jordan Anselmo and Shannon Jordan Gann; a special friend, Glenda Glover McDonald; as well as, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services for Mr. James Jordan will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, Garvin, Oklahoma, with Jack Jordan, David Jordan and Jerri Rice officiating. Burial will be held at the Garvin Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Joyce Ann Bailey Hall
Joyce Ann Bailey Hall, age 80, a resident of Broken Bow, Oklahoma died Tuesday, January 7, 2020, in Plano, Texas.

She was born September 24, 1939, in De Queen, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of Chapel of the Pines Baptist Church in Hochatown, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lester and Josie Ann Chandler Bailey; her husband, Cephis Hall; three brothers, Walter Lester, Jr. “Buck” Bailey, Clarmon Bailey, and Virgil Lee Bailey; and one sister, Johnnie Lou Bailey-Benton-Turner.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, April DeFoor of De Queen and Kirk DeFoor of Horatio, Arkansas and Angela and Michael Wilson of Andover, Kansas; one son and daughter-in-love, Alan and LaChanna Hall of Eagletown, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Marissa DeFoor, Connor Wilson and Bailey Ann Elizabeth Hall; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hall will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Crow officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 10th at the funeral home in De Queen.
