Barbara Lawray Young Westbrook
Barbara Lawray Young Westbrook, age 75, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Sunday, October 13, 2019, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She was born June 5, 1944, in Gillham, Arkansas. She was a homemaker.

Ms. Westbrook was preceded in death by her parents, Ira William Young, Sr. and Vera Mae Bagley Young; three sons, Robert Higgins, Jimmy Higgins, and David Humphrey; one daughter, Tonya Lynn Golden; one sister, Euna Mae Weick; five brothers, Ira William Young, Jr., Robert Doyle Young and wife Ruby, Don Carl Young, Lloyd Franklin Young, and Cody Michael Young.

Ms. Westbrook is survived by one son, Johnny Ray Higgins; two sisters-in-law, Caring Young and Ernestine Young Smith; and a number of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Ms. Westbrook will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2019, in the Overturf Cemetery with Rev. Homer Frachiseur officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Teresa “Terri” Lynn Dull Mendenhall
Teresa “Terri” Lynn Dull Mendenhall, 60, of Texarkana, AR. passed away in a local hospital on Sunday, October 13, 2019. She was born August 10, 1959 in Wichita, KS. She loved traveling, her animals and most of all her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents Alton and Barbara Dull; one uncle Frankie Dull and one aunt Joyce Shirley.

She is survived by her husband Rick Mendenhall of Texarkana, AR; one sister Roxanna Dull Morrow of DeQueen, AR.; one nephew Joseph Morrow and his wife Renee and children of Maumelle, AR; aunts and uncles Jesse Dull and his wife Retta and children of New Boston, TX. and Wayne Dull and his wife Carolyn and children of De Queen, AR. and other family and many friends.

There will be a family memorial service planned at a later date.

Alton “Peavy” Monroe
Alton “Peavy” Cleve Monroe, 84, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019. He was born in Dierks, Arkansas on August 16, 1935, to Cleve Dalton and Virginia I. Hamier Monroe. Alton grew up in Horatio, Arkansas where he attended Horatio Schools. In his younger years, he worked at a sawmill and helped on a strawberry and cotton farm. He went on to serve in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany was honorably discharged. Peavy was a true Christian man who loved God, his family, his country and the Houston Astros. He never met a stranger and would do anything for anybody. He loved telling old stories of his childhood and tending to his garden. Peavy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Virginia Monroe; Three brothers, Glenn, Linville and Rayburn Monroe.

Peavy is survived by his wife, Rachel Monroe, the love of his life; Two Daughters, Rhonda Clauss and husband Ted, and Robyn Trusty and husband Lee; Brother, Kenneth Monroe and wife Linda; Sister-In-Law Carolyn Monroe; Grandchildren, Sheena Fusilier and husband David, Trey Clauss, and Brecka Trusty; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 11, 2019 at Sterling White Funeral Home with interment in the Sterling White Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Sterling White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd., Highlands, Texas 77562.

Joe Travis Tigert
Mr. Joe Travis Tigert, age 78, resident of De Queen, passed from this life on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at his home.

He was one of four children born to Virgil Vernon and Ethel Inez Ward Tigert on May 29, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas. He married the love of his life, Joyce Cranford, on March 2, 1962 in Dallas, Texas. Joe proudly served with the Unites States Army during the Cuban Crisis, worked as a Pipefitter and Boiler Maker, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and Lone Star Street Rod Association, and enjoyed restoring old cars, attending car shows and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tommy F. Tigert and Jerry B. Tigert; and one sister, Doris Kessler.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 57 years, Joyce Cranford Tigert of De Queen; one son, Franklin “Scott” Tigert and his wife Stefanie of Red Oak, Texas; one daughter, Traci LeAnn Logan and her husband Ed of Vansant, Virginia; six grandchildren, Jamie, Joe, Clint, Corey, Nicholas and Megan; eight great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, L.D. Kessler of Sulphur, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Ronnie Kessler and wife Cindy, Rickey Kessler and wife Cindy, Becky Doty and Lisa McDonald and husband Bryan, all of Sulphur, Oklahoma; as well as, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Joe Tigert will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 10, 2019 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Rowlett, LSSR Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow at the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 9th, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to the Texas Shriner’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.

Dixie Louise Cavender
Dixie Louise Cavender, age 97, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Thursday, October 3, 2019, at her home.

She was born May 19, 1922, in Ultima Thule, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and a member of Kern Heights Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cavender was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Lee and Effous M. Wolf Willis; her husband, Vernon Claude Cavender; two daughters, Nan Cavender and Maria London; two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Jan Cavender of De Queen; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Hope and Don Gore of De Queen and Polly Williams of Horatio, Arkansas; one son-in-law, Clarence London of Eagletown, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Amy London, Chris London, Mark London, Heath London, Amber Townsend, Alisa DeGrave, and Ashley DeGrave; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews

Graveside memorial services for Mrs. Cavender will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Chapel Hill Cemetery with Clark LeForce officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Larry L. McAlister
Larry L. McAlister, age 65, a resident of Little River Club, Arkansas, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at his home.

Mr. McAlister was born March 11, 1954, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He spent his life teaching, coaching, and encouraging everyone around him. He was also a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Horatio, Arkansas.

Mr. McAlister loved his girls, playing music, and spending time with his whole, crazy family. His pain has now given way to victory, and he leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson and Neoma Sheppard McAlister.

Mr. McAlister is survived by his wife, Tammy Leverett McAlister; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tiffany and Micah Cassady of Horatio and Amanda and Evan Usner of Woodbridge, Virginia; one granddaughter, Alice Bea Cassady; a great niece and nephew, Addie and Parker Munn; one brother and sister-in-law, Woody and Susan McAlister of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bennie and Weldon Prince of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Reggie and Don Cobb of Perryville, Arkansas; a sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Mark Voss of Ashdown, Arkansas; three brothers-in-law, Randy Munn and Mickey Leverett of Horatio and Brad Munn of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. McAlister will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Horatio First Baptist Church with Jay McAlister and Larry Sherman officiating. Burial will follow in Horatio Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, October 4th at the funeral home.

Julio Montanez
Julio Montanez, age 73, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Mr. Montanez was born March 25, 1946, in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. He was an independent contractor and carpenter and enjoyed teaching others the trade. He was a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church and was the host of the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Mr. Montanez was the owner of De Queen Old Town Café and enjoyed spending time with family, cooking for his family and friends and sharing a cup of coffee with others, which brought people together.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Montanez is survived by his wife, Maria Isabelle Montanez; his children, Julio Montanez, Jr., Laura Montanez, Pete Montanez, Elisa Cisneros, Emily Montanez and Erin Montanez; his stepchildren, Laura Ambriz, Memo Ambriz and Daniel Ambriz; four grandchildren, Roberto Montanez, Jazilyn Montanez, Jose Cisneros and Javier Cisneros and his step grandchildren, Xitlally, Xochitl, Donovan, Memo, Dakota, Willie, Paulina, Cecilia, Javier, Eveyln and Ava and one step great-granddaughter, Ximena

A vigil service will begin at 6:00 p.m., including the Holy Rosary that will begin at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3nd in the Monsignor Scott Friend Pastoral Center.

Funeral Mass for Mr. Montanez will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday October 4, 2019, in the Monsignor Scott Friend Pastoral Center at St. Barbara Catholic Church with Ramses Mendieta officiating. Burial will follow in Redmen Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
