Jean Wise
Mrs. Jean Wise, age 90, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
She was born August 11, 1928 in the town of Layer, England to Alfred and Winifred Page Curtis. Mrs. Wise was a homemaker and member of the Grannis Baptist Church.
Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, James D. Wise; one brother, Peter Curtis; and a grandson, James W. Wise.
She is survived by one daughter, Gwyn Hartin and husband Joyle of Dierks, Arkansas; two sons, Jimmy Wise and wife Valerie and Wayne Wise and wife Diann all of Grannis; one brother, Gerald Curtis of Layer, England; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren
Funeral services for Mrs. Wise will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Wisinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Grannis Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday the 4th at the funeral home.
Sonja Denise Chewning Cook
Ms. Sonja Denise Chewning Cook, age 52, a resident of Fort Towson, Oklahoma, died Monday, December 31, 2018, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was born April 1, 1966, in Texarkana, Texas. She was a homemaker.
Ms. Cook was preceded in death by her step-father, William “Bill” Donald Cooper and a special brother-in-law, Johnny Dale Cogburn.
She is survived by two sons, Justin Duff, who is Chief Petty Officer in the Navy and Mark Cook of Evansville, Indiana; one daughter, Heather Cook also of Evansville; her mother, Joyce Cooper of Fort Towson; her father, Douglas Chewning of Texarkana, Texas; two sisters, Dena Veuleman of Texarkana, Arkansas and Chystal Cogburn of Ft. Towson, Oklahoma; two brothers, Larry Chewning of Troup, Texas and Todd Chewning of Henderson, Texas; six grandchildren, Abilgail, Aybrie, Carter, Chase, Elliana, and Amelia; a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles; and one special uncle William Bailey.
Graveside funeral services for Ms. Cook will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the Campground Cemetery Pavilion with Junior Ochoa officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Saturday the 5th at the funeral home.
Marcus Wayne “Marc” Mathney
Mr. Marcus Wayne “Marc” Matheny, age 38, a resident of Nashville, Arkansas, passed from this life on Sunday, December 30, 2018, in a Texarkana, Texas hospital.
He was born to Billy Wayne and Kimberly Ann Whitley Matheny on April 4, 1980, in Fort Ord, California. He married the love of his life, Monica Renee Heikes on March 24, 2000, and to this marriage, one son was born. Marc loved the Lord and was a member of the First Christian Church in Nashville and enjoyed watching his son play football, riding 4-wheelers and tinkering with trucks, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kim Matheny and his grandmother, Hazel Matheny.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 18 years, Monica Renee Matheny of Nashville; one son, Nicholas William Matheny of Nashville; his father and step-mother, Bill and Mary Matheny of Hayesville, North Carolina; one brother, Micky Strang and his wife Kristie of De Queen; one sister, Marci Null and her husband Leonard of Dierks; two step-brothers, David McGough of Joplin, Missouri and Mark McGough of Hayesville, North Carolina; one uncle, Jay Whitley of Dierks; three aunts, Sheri Mills and her husband Melvin of De Queen, June Pinson and her husband Jerry of Dierks and Stacy Rasmussen of Grannis; his grandmother, Maxine Whitley of Dierks; his grandfather, Bill Whitley and his wife Shirley of El Paso, Texas; as well as, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other special relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial Services for Mr. Marc Matheny will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 5, 2019, in the First Christian Church, Nashville, Arkansas, with Bro. Jim Pinson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Edward Allen Fears
Mr. Edward Allen Fears, age 81, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, December 28, 2018, in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born May 17, 1937, in De Queen. He was an inspector for the state highway department and was a member of Geneva Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Fears was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Homer and Rosa Bell Clark Fears; a sister, Gladys Bell; and one brother, Travis Fears.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Francis Renfrow Fears; two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Mike Cooley and Renee and Freddie Brenneman all of De Queen; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eddie Fears of Dallas, Texas and Mark and Susan Fears of Tampa, Florida; three grandsons, Josh Cooley, Jared Cooley, and Jake Tidwell; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Fears will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2018, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Travis Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Redmen Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas Gore
Mr. Thomas Leon Gore, age 72, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, passed from this life on Monday, December 24, 2018, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He was born to Earnest Leon and Mary Elizabeth Inzer Gore on May 8, 1946, in Camden, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and he later worked as an operator for the Weyerhaeuser Corporation. He married the love of his life, Nessie Ann Dinger, on September 20, 1972, in Clarksville, Texas. He attended church at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Arkansas Knife Makers. He enjoyed fishing, knife-making, hunting and woodwork, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 46 years, Nessie Ann Gore of Gillham; one daughter, Heather Christene Reed and her husband Billy of Steens, Mississippi; one son, Thomas Ernest Gore and his wife Shawnya of Lowell, Arkansas; two grandchildren, James Alexander Reed of Knoxville, Tennessee and Mikayla Leigh Reed of Columbus, Mississippi; two brothers, Larry Joe Gore and Terry Gore; two sisters, Ann Launius and Deborah Gore; as well as, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Terry Donna Williams Sowell
Mrs. Terry Donna Williams Sowell, age 55, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Friday, December 14, 2018, at her home.
She was born November, 26, 1963, in Dos Palace, California.
Mrs. Sowell was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Edward and Marilyn Lois Woodring Williams.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Sowell; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Anna Stephens of Vilonia, Arkansas and granddaughter, Harper; two sisters, Angela Vaughters of Counce, Tennessee and Anna Poteet of Klamath Falls, Oregon; one brother, Eddie Williams also of Klamath Falls; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mrs. Sowell will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Bro. Charles Ligon officiating. Cremation arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Charles Franklyn Loftin
Major (Ret.) US Army, Charles Franklyn Loftin, age 68, a resident of Little River Club, Little River County, Arkansas, died Thursday, December 13, 2018, in Ashdown, Arkansas.
He was born April 21, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas. Major Loftin was retired from the United States Army of 20 years and Northrup Grumman of 26 years. He was a 1972 graduate of Henderson State University and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg, Arkansas. He was an avid golfer and served on the Board of Directors of Little River Country Club where he and his wife lived.
Mr. Loftin was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Loftin and Roma “Squeeky” Cannon Loftin of Lockesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann Lee Loftin; one son, Charles Jr. and one granddaughter, Renay of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, William David and Charlotte Loftin of Enterprise, Alabama; one sister, Sissy and Jimmy Slabaugh of Valiant, Oklahoma; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
