Helen Keith
Helen Keith, age 86, a resident of Plantersville, Texas, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in Tomball, Texas.
She was born March 3, 1932, in Foreman, Arkansas. She worked a number of years for Raython, an electronics company in Chicago and San Diego while continuing her education. Helen attended college while working and ultimately got her degree in Education. She taught both in Chicago and Los Angeles finally retiring from teaching in Los Angeles. After retiring she relocated to Wisconsin but only for a while-her favorite brother, Charlie, lived in Texas and that was her final destination. She has lived on her property for at least 20 years in Plantersville, Texas with her dogs and cats. She enjoyed watching the wildlife in her front yard especially the birds.
Helen was a great, wonderful and amazing daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She helped those in need offering them a hand up and encouragement. She was strong and held firm in her beliefs. We would be remiss if we didn’t say occasionally Helen had a streak of stubbornness and oneryness - but that was Helen, and despite those characteristics or maybe because of them we loved her. Her loyalty, caring, compassion and love for us more than showed us what was truly in her heart.
Helen’s love of animals was evident in the cats and dogs she owned. She enjoyed tinkering on cars- whether she was good or not was another story. She enjoyed reading about history and was quite the history buff. She shared her knowledge not only with her students when she taught, but anyone who was interested. She also shared her political views with anyone who would listen.
Helen enjoyed her solitude, but welcomed family and friends often taking us to her favorite restaurant- Rudi Lechners in Houston. She especially loved the playing of their Alp horn. She thoroughly enjoyed times she spent there and with family and friends.
Helen’s smile, casual raising of her eyebrows, “Helen” look, the hugs she gave you, the “I love you” she said will be sorely missed. Helen was an important member of our family-imparting her knowledge, opinions and all around good sense to those of us that chose to listen and hear her. She spoke softly but made a lasting impression. We will miss her presence but know that she will always be in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Eliza Garrett Keith; father, John A. Keith and her brothers, Edward, Elmer, Earl and Charlie Keith.
Helen is survived by one niece, Lisa Whitlock and her husband, Glenn Whitlock, niece, Connie Keith and her partner, Sam; one great niece, Holly Rohrback (Clay); one great nephew, Ryan Rice; cousin, Louis “Jack” Mann; second cousin, Karen M. Roberts, and lifelong friend, Nita Ferjo.
