Billy Eugene Higgins
Mr. Billy Eugene Higgins, age 67, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, died Sunday, April 8, 2018 in Mena, Arkansas.
He was born to David Gordon and Illa Christine Snyder Higgins in De Queen, Arkansas, on June 25, 1950. He was a heavy equipment operator, having worked for the City of De Queen, and the Highway Department. He was a member of the 4C Cowboy Church and the Silver Hill Masonic Lodge. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working with his hands in carpentry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Russell Higgins, Bobby Higgins, Freeman Higgins, Ester Jean Smith, and Gladys Tabor, and his son-in-law, Chad Rains.
He is survived by his wife, Sandee K. Higgins of Gillham, one son and daughter-in-law, William Bryan and Patricia Higgins of Springdale, Arkansas, two daughters and a son-in-law, Kelly Warren and Vance Bradler of Mount Ida, Arkansas, and Joey Rains of New Boston, Texas, two step-daughters and their husbands, Tracy and Roger Lemon of Kremlin, Colorado, and Wendy and Steve Arkon of Horatio, Arkansas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin and Patsy Hearn, Jimmy and Linda Higgins all of De Queen, one sister, Belva Nipper of Lockesburg, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 21st in the United Methodist Church of Gillham. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Nedra Bernice Williamson Leverett Munn
Mrs. Nedra Bernice Williamson Leverett Munn, age 79, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Monday, April 16, 2018, in Ashdown, Arkansas.
She was born July 15, 1938, in the Williamson Community to Hubert “Hoggy” and Grace Green Williamson. She was retired as manager of the Horatio School Cafeteria, a florist, a foster grandparent at Horatio Elementary, and a member of the Williamson Community Church. She was “Mom” “Grandma”, “Ga Ga” to many people. She loved frying chicken & Chicken Fried Steak for them. She was always ready to go have fun, to listen to some good music-especially when it was her grandkids singing, & to call the Hogs.
Mrs. Munn was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Dwight Leverett and Arthur J.D. Munn; a sister, Pauline Hall and two brothers, Lawrence “Snooks” Williamson and Ben “Dick” Williamson.
She is survived by three sons; Mickey Leverett, Randy Munn and Bradley Munn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Larry McAlister and Terri and Mark Voss; her grandchildren and their spouses, Tiffany and Micah Cassady, Amanda McAlister, Dustin and Dallas Voss, Jacob and Theresa Voss, Ben Voss, Haley Munn, Brandee and Brad Hall, Katrina Munn and Raegan Munn; seven great grandchildren, Adeline Munn, Parker Munn, Bennett Barnett, Alice Bea Cassady, David Breslin, Brayden Hall and Bree Hall; her “sister” cousin, Lena Ruth Dickerson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mrs. Munn will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Williamson Community Church with Bro. Jimmy Roden and Bro. Joe Walden officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tara Bailey
Mrs. Tara Lanette Kitchens Bailey, age 34, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Monday, April 16, 2018 at her home.
She was born to Cyrus Cleatis and Barbara Dell Bradshaw Kitchens in Texarkana, Texas, on June 2, 1983. She was a LPN with Elite Home Health in Nashville, as well as homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lockesburg, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cherished the time spent with family.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ted Kitchens and Ima and Big Boy Prather, and her maternal grandfather, William Bradshaw.
She is survived by a daughter, Braxton Bailey of Lockesburg, her parents, Barbara and Cleatis Kitchens of Lockesburg, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ted and Stacie Kitchens of Lockesburg, and Kyle Kitchens of Horatio, her maternal grandmother, Glow Dell Bradshaw of Lockesburg, two nieces, Olivia and Lexia Kitchens both of Lockesburg, Braxton's father, Jesse Bailey of Willisville, Arkansas, a step-daughter, Elizabeth Bailey of Vilonia, Arkansas, a step-son, Wyatt Bailey of Willisville, Arkansas, and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Tara Bailey will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg, with Bro. Jerrel Helms and Bro. Larry Fry officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will be Thursday, April 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Mrs. Ginger Fatherree
Mrs. Ginger Lanell Walker Fatherree, age 61, a resident of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, died Friday, April 13, 2018 at her home.
She was born to Rufus Lee and Jewel Lona Uzzle Walker on January 5, 1957 in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. She was a C.N.A., having worked in health care, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, writing poems, and cherished the time spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Larry Dale Fatherree, and Scotty Wayne Fatherree, Two brothers, James Walker and Robert Walker, three sisters, Betty Jester, Avie Dowdy, and Wanda Fatherree.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Don Fatherree of Mineral Springs, a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Christina Fatherree of Lockesburg, Arkansas, three daughters and two son-in-laws, Lona and Randy Peters of Lockesburg, Karrie and Billy Ray Carroll of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, and Amy Smith of Mineral Springs Arkansas, one Brother and sister-in-law, Rev. David and Lou Walker of Glenwood, Arkansas, one sister, Shirley Gossage of Dierks, Sixteen grandchildren, Five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and several beloved extended family members.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Ginger Fatherree were held Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 1:00 P.M., in the Bluff Springs Cemetery, Mineral Springs with Rev. David Walker officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Mrs. Maxine Cawood
Mrs. Maxine Rakes Cawood, age 91, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Bentonville, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Dierks.
She was born to George Washington and Margaret Schaum Rakes in Bentonville, Arkansas, on December 17, 1926. She was a retired teacher, having taught in the Bentonville Middle School. She was a member of the New Home United Methodist Church, in Bentonville, Arkansas. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and cherished the time spent with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Virginia Kropff, and Georgine Cawood, and in 2010 her husband of 65 years, Virgil Eugene “Jack” Cawood.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Michael Wright of Nashville, Arkansas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Mr. George Vorhease
Mr. George Emory Vorhease, age 65, a resident of Haworth, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Hospice of Texarkana.
He was born to Jesse James and Elizabeth Irene Choate Vorhease in Crossett, Arkansas on January 27, 1953. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U S Army.
He was a retired Southern Baptist Minister, and a retired electronic tech for Red River Army Depot. He was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church at Crossroads, Arkansas, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends. He held a third degree Black Belt in Marshall Arts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dr. Bill Vorhease, and a sister Deana Ann Vorhease.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Vorhease of De Queen, a daughter and son-in-law, Bambi and Dutch McGehee of Rockhill, South Carolina, one granddaughter, Katherine McGehee of Rockhill, South Carolina, one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Debbie Vorhease of Haworth, Oklahoma, one nephew and his wife, Michael and Cora Vorhease of Crossett, Arkansas, two nieces, Danyel Vorhease of Maumelle, Arkansas, and Vanessa and her husband, Bradford Gibson of Conway, Arkansas, one great-nephew, Grant of Crossett, Arkansas.
Funeral Services for Mr. George Vorhease will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., in the Chandler Funeral Home with Bro. Roy Conatser officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, Arkansas under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will be Friday, April 13, 2018 in the Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Texarkana, 2407 Galleria Oaks Dr., Texarkana, Texas.
Joseph Lester McNully
Joseph Lester McNully passed peacefully at his home in Tucson 12:54 AM April 4, 2018. Born December 5, 1930 on a family farm outside of Horatio, AR, he was known as Joe to his co-workers and Lester to most of his family. Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years Itoko O. (Ruthie) McNully and their son Robert (Bobby) McNully.
Joe served his country as an airman and later tech sergeant in the Air Force following WWII and during the early Korean War period. Joe parlayed his electronics training in the service to start a career in the emerging radar markets working with RCA and later with General Electric and Techmatics. Many of his projects remain classified to this day, but his services carried him (and occasionally his family) to such places as Moorestown, NJ; Cherry Hill, NJ; White Sands Missile Range, NM; Socorro, NM; Alamogordo, NM; as well as aboard many of the ships of the U. S. Navy fleet as they were modernized to include new and upgraded radar equipment.
Joe retired to Oro Valley, AZ in 1995 where he kept friends and acquaintances apprised by e-mail of family history and local siting of javelina, bobcat, birds, coyote, and other visitors to his street and back yard.
