Doris Jean Halcombe Blackwood
Mrs. Doris Jean Halcombe Blackwood, age 78, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017 in Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas.
She was born September 25, 1939 in Newhope, Arkansas. Mrs. Blackwood was an employee of Howard Manufacturing in Nashville for 26 years. She was the Activities director at the Sr. Citizen’s Center in Dierks and a member of the Westside Church of Christ.
Mrs. Blackwood was preceded in death by her husband Billie Austin Blackwood; and her parents, George Herbert and Gladys Hazel Rodgers Halcombe.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Hayes and Caroline Halcombe of Dierks; a sister, Jo Ellen Chesshir of Nashville; one niece, three nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blackwood will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Westside Church of Christ in Dierks with Robert Peek officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the chapel in Dierks.
Alice Ann (Irvin) Greenlee
Ms. Alice Ann (Irvin) Greenlee, age 71, a resident of Ashdown, Arkansas, died Thursday, November 23, 2017 in Little River Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 27, 1946 in Houston, Texas and was raised in San Angelo, Texas.
Ms. Greenlee was preceded in death by her parents, John D. Irvin and Ruby Bullock; a twin brother, Alan Irvin; and a sister, Shirley Popp.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sherri and Chris Chandler of De Queen and Cheryl Irvan of Horatio; five grandchildren, Jessica Williams of Mayflower, Arkansas, Janelle White of Grapevine, Texas, Wesley Jeanes of Springfield, Missouri, Ryan Irvan of San Diego, California, and Tyler Irvan of Horatio, Arkansas; six great-grandchildren; one nephew Jeff Popp of Crowley, Texas; and a niece Julie Thompson of Richardson, Texas.
Alice loved fishing, reading western novels; Zane Grey was her favorite; playing games; she was an avid Scrabble player; and making the occasional trip to the casino. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan and kept a detailed scrapbook dedicated to The King.
A celebration of life, for Ms. Greenlee, will be held for family and friends on Sunday, December 17th at 2:00 p.m., at 149 Sweet Home Lane in De Queen.

Josephine Cooper
Mrs. Josephine Bearden Cooper, age 76, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
She was born July 26, 1941 in Burg, Arkansas. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Goldie Kesterson Bearden.
She is survived by her husband, James Cooper of Dierks and two sons, Justin Cooper of Ashdown, Arkansas and James Cooper of Dierks.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Cooper will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in the Dierks Cemetery with Clyde “Butch” Mitchell officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Hazel Joyce Sims
Hazel Joyce Sims, age 86, of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away November 13, 2017, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Center in Ashdown, Arkansas. She was born August 2, 1931 to the late George and Jewell Anders of Waco, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Joyce Campbell.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of sixty-four years, Thomas, her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Glenda Sims, grandchildren Jeremy, Brandon, and Justin Sims, Amanda Barton, Matthew and Danielle Campbell, great-grandchildren Dakota, Logan, Blake, and Sophia Barton, Penelope, Landry, J.D., and Jakob Sims.
Hazel enjoyed reading and being with her grandchildren. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and always loved family gatherings, especially if there was homemade vanilla ice cream.
Services will be Friday, November 17, at 3:00 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday, November 16, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Restland Memorial Park.
Paul Dean Stone
Mr. Paul Dean Stone, age 81, resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Christus St. Michael in Texarkana, Texas. He was born to Paul Lynn and Josephine Nalley Stone, in Tishamingo, Oklahoma, on September 9, 1936.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Ann Stone; a son Flint Maxwell and wife Cathy Stone; and a daughter, Paula Ann and husband Brad Justice; four grandsons, Adam Lancaster, Brayden Rose, Patrick and wife Erin Stone, and Max Stone; one granddaughter Brooke Rose.
He was a graduate of De Queen High School and Ouachita Baptist College. He was in the Army Reserves, a marksman on the rifle team, a NAIA All American Football player at Ouachita. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of De Queen. He was a teacher at Lockesburg High School for several years and a school bus driver for Lockesburg and De Queen schools, as well as, a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed teaching young children and inspired many of his former students to pursue professions in the medical field and he was so proud of that. He retired from Woodmen of the World Life Insurance after 22 years of service.
Funeral services for Mr. Paul Dean Stone will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Chapel Hill Cemetery with Brad Justice officiating. James Terry Wax
Mr. James Terry Wax passed from this life on Monday, November 13, 2017, at his home in Gillham, Arkansas.
He was born on July 18, 1937, to Delbert and Irene Cooper Wax in Gillham in what would become Wax General Store. He was the owner and operator of many different businesses over the years but enjoyed raising cattle more than any other work he had done. He was a member of Gillham First Baptist Church and was a Mason. Mr. Wax was also a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict and told many stories of work as a Medic during his service.
Mr. Wax was a kind, loving and generous man. He loved the Lord and often shared his testimony of his salvation. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Razorbacks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Penny Wax; one son, Kevin Wax; a sister, Linda Kay Wax Patterson and a granddaughter, Jessica Irene Wax.
Mr. Wax is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sharon Wax; one grandson, Garrett Wax, all of Gillham; one step-son, Danny Cunningham; two brothers, Bill Wax and Delbert Wax, Jr.; one sister, Susan Byrd along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Wax will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2017, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Gillham Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 18th at the funeral home.
Mr. Charles Henry Golden
Mr. Charles Henry Golden, age 93, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 11, 2017, in Bear Creek Healthcare, De Queen.
He was born to John Mathis and Constance Ione Carr Golden on June 10, 1924, in Meridian, Texas. Mr. Golden married the love of his life, Betty Lee Zanzeberg, on June 8, 1946, in Wickes, Arkansas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grannis where he served as a Deacon and he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and in Korea. He retired as a manager at United Farm Industries and returned to Arkansas to be a cattle farmer. When he was able, Mr. Golden was an active member of the Sevier County Chapter of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he truly enjoyed working.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James Golden, Frank Golden, and Bill Golden.
He is survived by his wife of over 71 years, Betty Lee Zanzeberg Golden, one daughter, Retta Charlene Smith and her husband Lynn of Grannis, Arkansas, two grandchildren, Jennifer Dawn Murphy and her husband Brian of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and Shilo Lynn Smith of Angier, North Carolina, four great-grandchildren, Kaylene Breann Smith of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Beckett Smith, Blayne Smith, and Blake Smith, all of Willow Springs, North Carolina. As well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Golden will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 15, 2017, in the First Baptist Church of Grannis with Bro. John Wisenger and Bro. Jerry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mineral Cemetery in Gillham under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
