Mrs. Maria Lerma
Mrs. Maria Felipa Salinas Lerma, age 67, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, and former resident of De Queen, died Friday, December 23, 2016 in Indianapolis.
She was born to Nemesio Salinas and Telesfora Ojeda Salinas on May 26, 1949 in Lan Luis Potosi, Mexico. She was a retired employee of Pilgrim's Pride, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two infant siblings.
She is survived by two sons, Jose Lerma and Chris Lerma both of Indianapolis, Indiana, four brothers, Raul Salinas, Miguel Salinas, Angel Salinas and Anselmo Salinas, six sisters, Alma Martha Salinas, Erica Salinas, Marcela Salina, Marcilina Salinas, Maria Felxi Salinas, and Aurelia Salinas all of Monterrey, Mexico, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Maria Lerma will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, under the direction of Chandler Funeral home.
Bartie Thomas Pate
Bartie Thomas Pate, 92, of Fort Smith, Arkansas died Monday, January 1, 2017 in Fort Smith.
Bartie was born on January 14, 1924 in Athens, Arkansas to Alic and MinnieTallent Pate. He joined the Army in 1942 and retired in 1965. Bartie was a loving father, husband, and friend. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Mr. Pate was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sevella Davis; three brothers, Colombus Barnes, Curtis Sharp, and Harold Pate; and one grandson Charles Cole Pate.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Pate; two sons an daughters-in-law, Merle and Nancy Pate of Ozark, Arkansas and Rick and Carol Pate of Oliver Springs, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Mardel Ollie and Delanna Nutter; one grandson, Bryan Long; two great grandsons; and three great great granddaughters.
Funeral Services for Mr. Pate will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Free Holiness Church in Athens with Tracy Welch and Shane Pair officiating. Burial will follow Athens Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends from 10:00-12:00, Saturday the 7th at the Free Holiness Church in Athens.

Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Pearce
Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Pearce passed from this life into the hands of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 2, 2017. She was born to Coy and Iva Jo Pinson Jarrell on February 18, 1938.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 58 years, Jacky P. Pearce, Sr. of De Queen; her children, Jacky and Mary Ida Pearce of De Queen and Penny and Joseph Reynolds of Racine , WI; her grandchildren, Jeremy Pearce and his wife Sharrell of De Queen, Cassie Hale and her husband Chris of De Queen, Rustin Reynolds and his wife Maranda of De Queen, Clint Pearce and his wife Joni of De Queen, Hannah McCoy and her husband Dylan of Hatfield and Paul Aaron Reynolds of Racine, WI; her great-grandchildren, Ashley Hale, Chase Pearce, Luke Pearce, Emmie Hale, Jacob Pearce, Jenna Farley, Braylee Reynolds, and Rylan McCoy; two brothers, Carroll "Jerry" Jarrell and his wife Joann of De Queen and James "Buddy" Jarrell and his wife Doris of Tahlequah, OK; three brothers-in-law, Bob Pearce and his wife Ruthie of Choctaw, OK, Bill Pearce and his wife Lou of De Queen and Jim Pearce and his wife Shirley of De Queen. Also rejoicing in her life are numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her "GOING HOME CELEBRATION" will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. George Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3rd at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ethel Shuffield
Mrs. Ethel Noey Norman Shuffield, age 88, a resident if Mesquite, Texas, and former resident of Ben Lomond, Arkansas, died Friday, December 30, 2016 in Mesquite, Texas.
She was born to Chess Murphy and Minera Fadelia Noe Noey on June 30, 1928. She was a member of the Ben Lomond Baptist Church and enjoyed deer hunting, cooking, and cherished the time spent with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Harold Noey, Morris Noey, Lewis Noey, Charlie Noey, Clovis Noey, and her twin Nellie Martin, and in 2015, her husband, Henry Clinton Shuffield.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy and Maggie Norman of Lockesburg, and Danny Norman, Nine grandchildren, Chris Norman, Chad Davis, Tommy Davis, Jeremy Roten, Dewayne Roten, Jenna Fowler, Brenna Castro, Hannah Norman, Kara Norman, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Ethel Shuffield will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Wofford’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Shuffield will be held Monday, January 2, 2017.
Mrs. Marjorie Pell
Mrs. Marjorie Helen Steadman Pell, age 97, a resident of De Queen, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 in the De Queen Medical Center.
She was born to Sidney Harrison “Harry” and Jean Ellsworth Steadman in North East, Pennsylvania, on May 19, 1919. She was a supervisor for the Department of Social Services in Los Angeles, California for 15 years, and retired owner of Pell’s Trailer Park, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Ripley Methodist Church in Ripley, New York, and First United Methodist Church of De Queen. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for 45 years, a member of the AARP, Woodman of the World, Board Member of the Salvation Army, the Gillham Extension Club. She enjoyed quilting, and traveling. She saw all 50 states as well as Canada, England, Scotland, and Wales.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Martha Jean Angelotti, and Ruth Eleanor Jenkins, and in 1990, her husband of 53 years, Eugene Thomas Pell.
She is survived by two sons, Sidney Leigh and Sally Pell of Springfield, Missouri, and Charles Steadman and Dianna Pell of Los Vegas, Nevada, a daughter, Marjorie “Margie” Kerst of De Queen, seven grandchildren, Sharon Shaw, Kelly Pell, Brian Pell, Dianna Louise Pell, Donald Kerst, Kathy Stewart, and Bill Kerst, eighteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Marjorie Pell will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, January 2nd in Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.. Burial will be in Bearl Lake Cemetery, Bear Lake, Pennsylvania. Jimmy Lynn Faulkner
Mr. Jimmy Lynn Faulkner, age 67, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 31, 2016, in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born September 25, 1949. He was the owner of Napa Auto in Dierks and was a member of the Umpire Community Church. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time with his hunting friends. He loved the outdoors and exploring the mountains. He was an Outlaw fan and supporter; loved the Razorbacks and Cowboys. He was an Umpire Wildcat at heart where he enjoyed basketball from youth. He enjoyed classic cars and Mustangs of all kinds. He enjoyed dirt track racing and was known by all as an avid Ford supporter. He lived to see his grandchildren: Alex and Breezy, and would do anything for them at any time. He was a loving father and dear friend to so many around him.
Mr. Faulkner was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Ray Faulkner.
He is survived by his parents, Raymon and Sybil Flenor Faulkner of Dierks; a son and daughter-in-law, Kip and Dinna Faulkner of Dierks; special friend, Shelly Boykin; one brother, Paul Faulkner; two grandchildren, Briseis and Alex Faulkner; a nephew, Jason Faulkner; and a niece, Megan Tollett.
Funeral services for Mr. Faulkner will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in the Umpire Community Church with John Henry Williams and Jerry Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery in Umpire, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 2nd at the funeral home in Dierks.
Phylis Esch
Mrs. Phylis Jean White Esch, age 85, a resident of Ashdown, and former resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, December 28th at her home.
She was born in Michigan on September 24, 1931. She was retired from Pilgrim’s Pride as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Old Time Baptist Church in Lockesburg, and enjoyed reading and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sharon Esch, and her husband, Dean Eudell Esch.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Freda Mae Esch of Ashdown, two grandchildren, Thomas Dale Esch of Ashdown and Brandie Jean Esch of Flint, Michigan, five grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Phylis Esch will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 31, 2016 in the Wrights Chapel Cemetery near Lockesburg, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
