Jessica Faye Parker
Jessica Faye Russell Parker, age 61, resident of Ashdown, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 in a Texarkana hospital.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 in Sunshine cemetery with Bro. J.W. Gilbert officiating, under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.
She was born Feb. 1, 1942 in Horatio to James and Janette Russell; was a nurse for over 25 years; and a member of Center Point Baptist Church. She was predeceased by three brothers, Billy Joe Russell, Bobby Joe Russell and James Russell; and three sisters, Ella Hoobler, Fannie Pickett and Dorothy Russell.
She is survived by her husband, Troy Parker of Ashdown; one daughter Rena Ward of Ashdown; one son, Taylor Parker of Mineral Springs; and three grandchildren.
Linda Jenell Schmidt
Mrs. Linda Jenell Schmidt, age 65, resident of Texarkana, Tex., died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at Foreman.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 in Chant Lane cemetery at Y. City with Rev. Todd Reed officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
She was born Aug. 19, 1938 in Y City; was a homemaker; and a member of Blackfork Baptist Church in Blackfork. She was predeceased by her parents, William Alfred and Myrtle Owens Rogers.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Schmidt; three daughters, Lillian Bonnell Crow Oglesby of Ozark, Lawanda Knighten and Lynnell Cleghorn, both of Foreman; two sons, Brian Schmidt of El Reno, Okla., and Craig Schmidt of North Fork, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pearlie Elvira Weems
Pearlie Elvira Weems, age 98, resident of Foreman, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 at her home.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8 in Campground cemetery with Leon Klitz, minister, officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
She was born May 22, 1905 in Little River County; and was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Polly Tipton Whisenhunt; and two sons, Edward Friend and Thurman Weems.
She is survived by one daughter, Neva Dell Smith of Foreman; one son, Glenn Friend of Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Melvin Whisenhunt and Elmer Whisenhunt, both of Foreman; five grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Beverly Jean Chapman
Mrs. Beverly Jean Wright Chapman, age 66, resident of Broken Bow, Okla., died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 in Christus St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paris, Tex.
A date for the memorial service will be announced later by Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
She was born Nov. 6, 1936 in Holdenville, Okla.; was a medical technician; and a member of East Side Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
She is survived by her husband, James Newt Chapman of Broken Bow, Okla.; two brothers, Jim Bob Wright of Dallas, Tex., and Jerry Wright of Celina, Tex.; one sister, Mitzi Lou Freeman of Eufala, Okla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bertha M. Williamson
Mrs. Bertha M. Chandler Stafford Williamson, age 92, resident of De Queen, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4 in West Otis cemetery at Horatio under the direction of Chandler Funeral Homes of De Queen.
She was born Feb. 12, 1911 in the West Line community of Sevier County to Joe Cy and Sarah Miller Chandler; was retired from the Horatio Public School Cafeteria; a homemaker; and attended First Assembly of God in Horatio. She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Ellis Miller, Frank Miller, Charlie Chandler and Carl Chandler; three sisters, Avis Brasher, Josie Bailey and Elsie Kenney; her husbands, James Samuel Stafford in 1962 and Hubert Williamson in 1982; and a son, Cecil Stafford in 1997.
She is survived by five sons, Curtis Stafford of Eagletown, Okla., Luther Stafford, Jack Stafford and Joe Stafford, all of De Queen, and Willis Stafford of Powell Butte, Ore.; 22 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Sherry Ruthie Simmons
Mrs. Sherry Ruthie Knighten Simmons, age 51, resident of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 in Christus St. Michael Health Care Center in Texarkana.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 in First Baptist Church in Foreman with Rev. Duaine Blackmore officiating. Burial followed in Gravelly cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
She was born Oct. 25, 1951 in Foreman; was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service; and a Baptist. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Wallace and Dorothy Dean Harrington Knighten; her husband, Jake Simmons; and two brothers, Johnny Knighten and LeRoy Knighten.
She is survived by one son, Jake Brandon Simmons of Winthrop; one daughter, Sheri Hall of Win-throp; six brothers, A.C. Knighten, Robert Knighten, William Knighten, Eddie Knighten, Simon Knighten and Charles Knighten, all of Winthrop; four sisters, Ethel Nunn of Ft. Towsen, Okla., Joy Lockeby of Foreman, Rosie Clark of Mt. Calm, Tex., and Rachel Fricks of Ozark; and three grandchildren.
The family were at the home of Joy Lockeby in Foreman.
Kurt A. Naumann
Kurt A. Naumann, age 68, resident of De Queen, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003 in a Texarkana hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Hobbs officiating. Cremation followed.
He was born Feb. 15, 1935 in Chicago, Ill., to Kurt Alfred and Mildred Adele Rush Naumann; was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict; a member of the American Legion; a sales representative for Charles Levin and Company in Chicago; a warehouse manager for Abraham and Straus Department Store in Brooklyn, NY; and worked for Knod Grocers and the De Queen School System in maintenance. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Hermann Otto Naumann; and his grandparents, Otto and Frieda Naumann.
He is survived by his wife, Billie June Jackson Naumann of De Queen; a son, Kurt Joseph Naumann of Bryant; a sister, Sandra Kelly of Monee, Ill.; and two granddaughters.
William Carl Hoobler
William Carl Hoobler, age 88, resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 in De Queen Re-gional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29 in Avon cemetery with Rev. J.W. Gilbert officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born April 21, 1915 in De Queen to William Henry and Tola Lee Ralls Hoobler; was a member of Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Grannis; a retired Sevier County employee; and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Thelma Morgan; and his first wife, Ella Russell Hoobler.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Anna Margaret Corley Slocum Hoobler of De Queen; two sons, William Carl "Bill" Hoobler Jr. of Mena and Kenneth Hoobler of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Wilma Hoobler of Tulsa, Okla.; two step-daughters, Frances Cagle of Malvern and Marjorie Montgomery of North Little Rock; one sister, Ella Jane Jordan of De Queen; and four grandchildren.
Robbie Sikes
Mrs. Robbie LaVara Howard Sikes, age 83, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Saturday, August 2, 2003 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center in Texarkana, Texas.
She was born November 26, 1919 in Provo, Arkansas to Charley and Mary Belle Matthews Howard. She was retired as the co-owner of the Ben Franklin store in De Queen, a member of the First United Methodist Church of De Queen and Chap-ter B, P.E.O.
She was preceded in death by her husband Buenos Sikes in 1990.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Don and Carol Sikes of Sherwood, Arkansas; a daughter and son-in-law: Judy and Bill Stewman of De Queen; her grandchildren: Melanie Brindley of Conway, Arkansas, Kevin Sikes of Little Rock, and Stacy Hayes of Fayetteville, Arkansas; her great-grandchildren: Madeline and Blake Brindley, Brian, Wesley, Erin and Cooper Sikes.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sikes were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Fish officiating.
Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Chancel and Handbell Choirs.
Reece D. Manasco
Reece D. Manasco, age 74, of Umpire, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003.
He was born on May 16, 1929, at Umpire, the son of Jim Manasco and Emma School-field Manasco. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bobby Neal Manasco. On February 4, 1950 he was married
to Evelyn Young.
He was a member of the Umpire Hunting Club and a former employee of Dierks and Weyerhaeuser Companies where he worked in the forestry division. He was a farmer and an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Manasco of Umpire; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Danny Litchford of Horatio; two grandsons, Allen Manasco of Umpire and Jonathan Manasco of Magnolia; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Jacob Manasco of Gillham; his brother and sister-in-law, Flenoia and Joy Ma-nasco of Umpire; his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Gene Sirmon of Brandon, Mississippi; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2003, in the Umpire Ho-liness Church with Bros. Don Vaughn and Keith Vaughn officiating.
Interment was in the Bethel cemetery, near Umpire, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Visitation was Wednesday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers were Todd Manasco, Jason Manasco, Jimmy Manasco, Jerry Manasco, Mike Sirmon and Greg Sirmon.
