Jeff Millwee Whisenhunt
Jeff Millwee Whisenhunt left this life on July 18, 2016. He was born on August 16, 1925 in Horatio, Arkansas and later moved to Idabel, Oklahoma where he grew up. He met and married the love of his life, Doris, there. They were married for 71 wonderful years.
Jeff joined the Merchant Marines during WWII and traveled the world on a variety of vessels as the ship’s chief radio operator.
He started his long career with the Kansas City Southern Railroad in 1948. In 1960 he moved to De Queen, Arkansas, where, as the youngest agent ever assigned to the station, stayed until his retirement in 1987.
Being a Mason was a big part of Jeff’s life. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and served as Worshipful Master of his Lodge as well as other high-level Masonic positions.
Jeff was also a huge supporter of the Boy Scouts. While living in Sallisaw, Oklahoma he started Boy Scout Troop 31, served as their Scout Master for several years, and even found and refurbished a place for them to meet…an old abandoned jail house!
A true and faithful servant, he was involved with the Methodist Church serving in many capacities through the years; as Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher, President of the Methodist Men, and as a Certified District Lay Minister to rural areas and other towns in Southwest Arkansas.
Jeff was an avid quail hunter and had a passion for the airways as a HAM Operator. His many radio friends still call today wondering what happened to N5LOO – his long time call sign. He loved playing dominos and cribbage and was infamously known for his “Grandpa Rules”.
Jeff leaves his wife, Doris, two sons, Wayne (wife Shirley), Robert (wife Carla), 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan.
Anyone who ever met him would know he had a love of storytelling and jokes. Being around Jeff almost always left you with a smile or a chuckle. He had a knack for making people feel a little happier than he found them.
