Mr. Otis Hill
Mr. Otis Wesley Hill, age 82, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, in a Hot Springs Hospital.
He was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, on November 23, 1933. He was a retired driver for the KCS Transport, and a member of the New Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and all his siblings.
He is survived by a son, Dwayne Graves of Duncanville, Texas, a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Nathaniel Staggers of De Queen, and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be at later date.
Mrs. Vera Pinkerton Baker
Mrs. Vera Pinkerton Baker, age 89, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas died Friday, July 15, 2016 in Mena, Arkansas.
She was born November 14, 1926 in Newhope, Arkansas. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Nellie Smith Pinkerton; and her husband, Hubert Edward Baker.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy McLaughlin of Wickes and Jone and John Earl Roe of Robeline, Louisiana; one sister, Era C. Bonney of Moses Lake, Washington; four grandchildren, Kimberly Garrison, Jeffery McLaughlin, Michelle Gullette and Pat Roe; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 in the Wickes Pentecostal Church with Chris Burk officiating. Burial will follow in the Duckett Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the funeral home.
Mr. Edward "Eddie" Rivera Vertiz
"Eddie," age 38, a resident of Little Rock, AR died Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Little Rock, AR.
He was born to Christine Vertiz and Apolinar S. Vertiz in De Queen, AR on April 11, 1978. He was a former food service supervisor at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, AR.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Vertiz. He is survived by his wife Anel Linares Vertiz and two sons, Jayden and Michael Vertiz of Little Rock, AR, two daughters, Chrissy Vertiz, De Queen, AR and Valerie K. Vertiz of Little Rock, AR. His father Apolinar S. Vertiz and wife Elvira M. Vertiz, his mother Christine Vertiz, his brother Joshua D. Vertiz, and two sisters and brother in law Corinda (Jose) Hernandez and Elizabeth Belen Vertiz. His father and mother in law Juan Linares and Hermelinda Valdez, four brother in laws Gabriel Linares (Teresa Serna), David Linares (Haide Ramos), Israel Linares (Elizabeth Martinez), and one sister in law Jasmine Linares (Angel Garcia) and numerous nephews and nieces plus a host of family and friends.
Memorial services will be Saturday July 23rd, 12:30 pm at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 6219 Baseline Road, Little Rock Arkansas and July 30th at 1:00 pm, at the J.L. Walker Fellowship Hall in Horatio, AR.
Mr. Jackey Allen Arter
Mr. Jackey Allan Arter, age 56, a resident of Lockesburg, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at his home.
He was born on September 6, 1959 in Littlefield, Texas. He was a timber worker, construction worker and worked at the Tyson Company Store in Nashville, Arkansas.
Mr. Arter is survived by his wife, Tina Stapp Arter; one son and daughter-in-law, Logan and Brandi Arter of Lockesburg; one daughter, Katelyn Arter of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Kevin Arter and Alainna Arter; his parents, Jackey L. and Kathleen Jones Arter; two brothers, Jerry Arter of Witts Springs, Arkansas and Larry Arter of Leslie, Arkansas; four sisters, Karen Flud of Hasty, Arkansas, Sherry Davis of Gum Log, Arkansas, Sharon Grant of Dardanelle, Arkansas and Kerry Balentine of Clinton, Arkansas and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are pending. Cremation arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Mrs. Debra Ann Clardy Johnson
Mrs. Debra Ann Clardy Johnson, age 66, a resident of Horatio, died Saturday, July 9, 2016, in Horatio, Arkansas.
She was born to Winfred Clardy and Dorothy Jean Martin in Horatio, Arkansas, on May 26, 1950. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Rubin and Everene Martin. She was a RN 48 years, working in the Labor and Delivery for St. Michaels’s Hospital and De Queen General Hospital. She also was the nurse for the Sevier County Developmental Center, and was on the Horatio City Council. She was an active member of the Mt. Phebia Baptist Church, where she served as Superintendent, Church Clerk, and Church Treasurer. She enjoyed crocheting, helping others and cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, her husband, Donnell Louis “JoeJoe” Johnson, a grandchild, Janae Joelle Hardwrick, and a son-in-law, Stephen Murdock.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robbie and Susan Stephens of Houston, Texas, two daughters and a son-in-law, Andrea Fenee’ Murdock of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Arnetha and Leroy Hardwrick, Jr. of Foreman, Arkansas, a son, Andre Johnson of Horatio, Arkansas, and Marcus Johnson of Dallas, Texas, nine grandchildren, Jasmine Hardwrick, Jordan Hardwrick, Jade Hardwrick, Joshua Murdock, Caleb McGaha, Robert Stephens, Quincy Robinson Johnson, Robbie Stephens, Jr., and Jalen Pastchol, a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Nicole Hopson of Idabel, Oklahoma, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby Holliday of Flint, Michigan, and Sheila and Alvin Jackson of Palm Bay, Florida, a sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Horatio, AR., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Debra Johnson will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 2:00 P.M., in the First Baptist Church of Horatio. Burial will follow in the Sunset Acres, Horatio, Arkansas.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 16th at Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Mrs. Frances Yates
Mrs. Frances Yates, age 88, a resident of Fayetteville, Arkansas, died Friday, July 8, 2016 in Fayetteville.
She was born May 26, 1928 in the Belleville Community near Lockesburg, Arkansas. She was a retired school teacher.
Mrs. Yates was preceded in death by her parents, John Robert and Mary Elizabeth Wilson Emerson; her husband, L.N. Yates, Jr. and four brothers, Woody Emerson, Archie Emerson, Charles Emerson and Sonny Emerson.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Melissa Yates of Little Rock, Arkansas; three daughters and a son-in-law, Ann and Bill Gentry of Van Buren, Arkansas, Judy McClary of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Christy Smith, also of Fayetteville; her siblings, John Emerson of Lebanon, Oklahoma, Bessie Jean Torgerson of Oak Harbor, Washington, Delia Ann Goins of Texarkana, Linda Monroe of Horatio, Arkansas, and Stanley Emerson of New Braunfels, Texas; her grandchildren, Scott Gentry, Craig Gentry, Amanda Pride, Amy Bronson, Andrew McClary, Alex McClary, Sam Yates, Abbi Smith and Alli Smith; her great-grandchildren, Kaleb Bronson, Ella Bronson, Anna Pride, Clara Pride, Riley Gentry, Thomas Gentry, and Emerson Gentry; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2016 in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Lockesburg with Randy Davis officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Mr. Ramsey Dewayne Huckaby
Mr. Ramsey Dewayne Huckaby, age 66, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, July 10, 2016 in the UAMS Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was born to Felix Harrison and Louise Ramsey Huckaby in De Queen, Arkansas on October 20, 1949. He was retired from the Sevier County Road Department, retiring with 41 years service and was an active member of the Old Time Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed running his dogs, deer hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He was preceded in death his parents, Lonnie Huckaby, Donnie Huckaby, Glennis Huckaby, and Marvin Huckaby.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Lyons Huckaby of De Queen, a step-son, Jason J. and Jacqueline Carr of De Queen, a step-daughter, Crystal D. and Eduardo Celso of Columbia, South Carolina, a brother and sister-in-law, James and Emalene Huckaby of de Queen, and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Margie Harbolt of Joplin, Mo, Sue and Sol Wagoner of Horatio, Arkansas, and Linda Dean of De Queen, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Ramsey Huckaby will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 2:00 P.M., in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Avon Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Donations to help with funeral expenses may be made at Chandler Funeral Home.
