Neva Dell Smith
Mrs. Neva Dell Olene Smith, age 88, a resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas, formerly of Foreman, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in Hot Springs.
She was born January 7, 1928 in Foreman. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Pearlie Elvira Whisenhunt Friend; her husband, Orie Douglas “Doug” Smith; one son, Thomas Lloyd “Tommy” Smith; one daughter, Edith Nell “Penny” Rice and three brothers.
She is survived by two grandsons, Douglas Eddie Rice of Royal, Arkansas and Anthony Lloyd Smith of Marshall, Arkansas; one granddaughter, Laurie Ann Smith also of Marshall; three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2016, in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28th at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Nicol Brooks
Mrs. Elizabeth Nicol Brooks, age 75, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Monday, April 25, 2016, in Idabel, Oklahoma.
She was born November 3, 1940 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. She retired from Walmart, and was a Baptist.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Sanford and Mary Louise French Nicol; her husband, Joel Brooks; two brothers, Roderick Nicol and Sanford Nicol; and a sister, Frances Root.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Root and Jeffrey Weller, both of Terrell, Texas; two sisters, Louise McCormack of Fairfield, Connecticut, and Mary Rockwell of Emmaus, Pennsylvania; a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Shelia and Ronny Halter of De Queen.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Brooks will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the Mt. Ida Cemetery with Ray Reynolds officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Linda Faye Stafford Irvan
Mrs. Linda Faye Mombi Stafford Irvan, age 68, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was born on April 25, 1947 in De Queen. She was a homemaker and a member of the Williamson Community Church in Horatio.
Mrs. Irvan was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Ruby Wiley Mombi; her first husband, Wilburn Stafford and one brother, Ben Mombi.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Irvan; three daughters and a son-in-law, Tonya and Sean Cowling, Tara Athey and Tracie Stafford all of De Queen; two step daughters, Amy Henderson of Mt. Vernon, Texas and Lori Capps and husband Jon of Hot Springs, Arkansas; two sisters, Millie Richardson and Loretta Lasch both of Eagletown, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Sam, Katie and Carac Cowling, Will Athey, Peyton Stafford and Reagan Batty; six step-grandchildren, Tanner, Emily, Claire and Mallory Capps, Austin Irvan and Riley Henderson; one great-granddaughter, Brooklee Cowling and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Linda Irvan will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in the Williamson Community Church with Jimmy Roden and Ralph Staggs officiating. Burial will follow in the West Otis Cemetery in Horatio, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, April 25th at the funeral home.
John W. Anderson
John W. Anderson, age 75, a resident of Foreman, Arkansas died Saturday, April 23, 2016 at his home.
He was born June 12, 1940 in Foreman. He was a pipe fitter, a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during Vietnam, and was a member of the Foreman Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma Virginia Anderson; his mother, Dora Brownfield Pond; his father, Glendon Anderson; his step-mother, Barbara Anderson; and a brother, Billy Mack Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Effie L. Anderson of Foreman; two daughters, Tracy Anderson and Catherine Witzig; one son, Thomas John Anderson, all of San Bernardino, California; one step son, Charles Ray Turner; one step-daughter, Pat Tankersley, both of Foreman; four brothers, Glendon S. Anderson of Longview, Texas, Olen Anderson of Foreman, Glen David Anderson of Foreman and Albert Anderson of Texarkana, Texas; his sisters, Bernice Whitworth of Mesquite, Texas, Theresa Woods of Foreman, Cindy Ross of Foreman, Shirley Beth Anderson of Foreman, Donnetta Houser of Foreman, Cheryl Anderson of Shinewell, Oklahoma, and Alicia Cruz of Conway, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Cassidy Turner, Steven Jiminez and Ashley Arrendondo, and 16 other grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Anderson, Bryan Roden, Justin Roden, Pete Gallagher, Perry Young, and Larry Dollar.
Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in the Foreman Church of Christ with Billy Blakeney and Ray Cromer officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen. Cremation will follow.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at the funeral home.
Mr. Franklyn Hibbs
Mr. Franklyn Hibbs, age 89, a resident of Grand Prairie, Texas, died Friday, April 22, 2016 in Arlington, Texas.
He was born July 24, 1926 in Dierks, Arkansas. He was a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force having served in WWII and Korea. He participated in the Berlin Airlift and flew for SAC (Strategic Air Command) during the Cold War. He was a published author and artist, worked in the scale industry and was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Hibbs and two half-brothers, Norman Loftin and Demp Loftin.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Lovell Hibbs; a daughter, Lisa Hibbs; one grandson, Bo Hibbs; one brother, Mac Hibbs; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Hibbs will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 25, 2016, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Bobby Tatum officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Redmen Cemetery.
Janie Elizabeth Slabaugh Simpson
Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Slabaugh Simpson, a resident of Eagletown, Oklahoma died Friday, April 22, 2016, at her home.
She was born to Henry and Leona Ford Slabaugh in Westline, Arkansas, on July 23, 1919. She was a member of the Stateline Church of Christ, and was retired from Dickinson Clinic, Hospital and Nursing Home, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed flowers, quilting, crocheting and cooking at deer camp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben Simpson, her siblings, Dimple Jackson, Arnold Dale Slabaugh, Elwanda Elliott, and H. C. Slabaugh, and a son-in-law, J. C. Hendrix.
She is survived by two daughters, and a son-in-law, Wilma Lou and T.Bone Pressley of Eagletown, Okla., and Wanette “Pete” Hendrix also of Eagletown, Oklahoma, one brother, A. W. Slabaugh of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, four grandchildren, Donald Imoe of Broken Bow, Ok, Kayla Mills of Hawaii, Michelle Stovall of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Lacey Russell of Eagletown, Oklahoma, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service for Mrs. Janie Simpson will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 25, 2016 in the West Otis Cemetery, Horatio, Arkansas, with Cy Davis minister officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Sunday, April 24th from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.
Cletus Verdo Brock
Cletus Verdo Brock, age 91, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Friday, April 22, 2016, in Dierks.
He was born April 6, 1925, in Altus, Oklahoma. He was a logging supervisor for Weyerhaeuser, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Dierks Church of Christ.
Mr. Brock was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Myrtle Lemons Brock; his wife of 67 years, Betty Lee Brock and five brothers, Herman Brock, Gene Brock, Doyle Brock, Preston Brock and Olin Brock.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joan Williamson and Patricia and Terry Bissell; one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Debbie Brock all of Dierks; two sisters, Ivy Mae Miller of Cullen, Louisiana and Mary Elliott of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one brother, Bobby Brock of Dierks; six grandchildren, five great- grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Brock will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae and Bill Paxton officiating. Burial will follow in Dierks Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
