Diane McGhee
Diane Dodson McGhee, 67, died August 3, 2003, in Longwood, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Terence J. McGhee of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; her daughter, Margaret McGhee of Washington, DC; her sister, Charline Coulter of Longview, Tex.; her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Dwight Dodson of Fayetteville, Ark.; and five nieces and nephews: Beth Coulter Lana-gan of Little Rock, Ark., Lee Ann Dodson of Gainesville, Fla., and Dana Dyk-man, Charles Dodson, and Allen Dodson of Fayetteville, Ark.
Diane, the daughter of Charles and Thelma Dodson, graduated from De Queen High School. She was an honor graduate of Henderson State University and the University of Arkansas. She attended postgraduate school at the University of Kansas and studied in Mexico and Spain as a Fulbright Scholar.
Diane was a faculty member at Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Geradeau, Mo.; Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, La.; Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.; and Cedarcrest College in Allentown, Pa.
Graveside memorial services will be held in De Queen, Ark., Redmen cemetery, Saturday, August 30, 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Ruth Adah Faidley
Ruth Adah Faidley, age 90, resident of Prairie City, IA., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 in Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29 in Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. Burial was held in Six Mile cemetery in Hatfield, Ark., on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. under the direction of Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax.
She was born Aug. 3, 1913 in Prairie City, IA., to Charles H. and Mable L. Jones Phearman; graduated from Prairie City High School in 1931; was united in marriage to Darrell E. Faidley on Feb. 19, 1942; and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Prairie City.
She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Faidley of Colfax, IA., Linda Beem of Nevada, and Shirley Smith of De Queen; a son, Ronald Faidley of Brooklyn; a sister, Mildred Pilkington of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church building fund or the Colfax Senior Citizen Center.
Aubrey Dale Jude
Aubrey Dale Jude, age 48, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003 at his home.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born Oct. 20, 1954 at San Antonio, Tex., to Lawrence and Mary Mell Hall Jude.
He is survived by one brother, Michael Raye Jude of San Antonio, Tex.; and one sister, P.J. Jude of Chicago, Ill.
Robert Eugene Minor
Robert “Bob” Eugene Minor, age 78, resident of Grannis, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at his home.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 in Millwee cemetery at Horatio with Rev. Mike Wilson officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born Feb. 20, 1925 at Fordyce to Ben and Stella Minor; was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a retired Postmaster for the Grannis Post Office with 20 years service; and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Williams Minor of Grannis; two sons, Robert Minor Jr. of Grannis and Cragar Minor of Fayetteville; one daughter, Michael Ann “Missy” Tabler of Fayetteville; four stepsons, Ronald Sharp, Joe Sharp Jr., and Robert Sharp, all of Grannis, and James Sharp of Hot Springs; two stepdaughters, Jo Ann Waddle of Deer Park, Tex., and Renee Newberry of Pasadena, Tex.; one brothers, Ben Minor of Luling, La.; two sisters, Geneva Thompson of El Dorado and Pat Dennis of Magnolia; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pellie Turner
Mr. Pellie Leon Turner, age 92, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 12, 1911 in Horatio. He served as a deacon for 32 years in the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen, was employed by Weyerhaeuser for 26 years and a Mason.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents: Charles E. and Eula Ross Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Paralee Hankins Turner of 71 years; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Howard T. and Lila Turner of Lafayette, Louisiana, Charles and Peggy Turner of De Queen and Gordon E. Turner of De Queen; two grandsons: David Turner and wife, Starla, and Matthew Turner; one granddaughter: Valerie Anne LeBas and her husband, Paul; one great-granddaughter: Lindsey Anne LeBas; three great-grandsons: Jeani-Paul LeBas, Michael Gage and Jared Gage; and one sister: Charlene Chenoweth.
Funeral services for Mr. Turner were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Hankins and Rev. Faron Rogers officiating. Burial followed in the Valley cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 7 at the funeral home.
LaVerne Saxton
LaVerne Young Saxton, age 82, resident of Madison, Miss., died Friday, March 7 in St. Dominics Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Miss.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 in Natchez Trace Memorial Park and cemetery in Madison under the direction of Mark Seepe Funeral Home.
She was born in De Queen to Elmer and Elizabeth Young; graduated from De Queen High School; served in the WAVES auxiliary unit of the U.S. Navy during World War II; was a freelance writer with published articles in Guideposts and County Home, The Christian Athlete Reader and The Northside Sun; and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Winfield Carey Saxton of Madison, Miss.; daughters, Becky Doyle of Belzoni, Miss., Beth Searles, Carrie Didlake and Josie Saxton, all of Asheville, NC; sons, Billy Saxton of Jackson, Miss., and James Saxton of Madison, Miss.; and eight grandchildren.
Lorene Nalley
Mrs. Lorene Mary "Rene" Nalley, age 93, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, February 23, 2003 in the Dierks Nursing Center, Dierks.
She was born to Felix V. and Rosene Christina Menz Halter at Benton, Missouri, on December 4, 1909. She was a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, and fishing. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Polly Halter and Andrew Halter; two sisters: Rosie Hendricks and Bertha Conatser; and two husbands, Sam Hendricks, Sr. and Robert L. Nalley.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Rev. Sam and Mittie Jean Hendricks of Horatio; one stepson: Winfred Nalley of Ft. Smith, Ark.; four stepdaughters: Bertha Smith and Louise Paddy both of Fort Smith, Ark.; Lillie Mareno of Hot Springs; and Bessie Quinn of Brinkley, Ark.; three grandchildren: Donetta Jenkins of Wickes; Jarita Sobak of Horatio; and Ricky Hendricks also of Horatio, Ark. one brother: Ramond Halter of De Queen; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lorene "Rene" Nalley were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2003 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. L. Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Ida cemetery, De Queen.
The family received friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2003.
Kelly Goodrick
Kelly Byers Goodrick, age 38, resident of Lincoln, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 in Sedalia, Mo.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 in Valley cemetery in Gillham under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She was born May 12, 1964 in Kermit, Tex. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Byers.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Goodrick of Lincoln, Mo.; one daughter, Korenna Dawn Goodrick of Lincoln, Mo.; one son, Travis Lee Goodrick of Lincoln, Mo.; her mother, Ann Byers of Texarkana; three brothers, Kevin Byers and Terry Byers, both of Texarkana, Ark., and Kenny Byers of Texarkana, Tex.; three sisters, Darlene Byers and Laquita Osburn, both of Texarkana, Ark., and Marqueta Byers of Texarkana, Tex.; her grandmother, Eva Lawrence of Mena; and two nephews.
The family will meet at the home of Hazel Baker on Hwy. 4 in Wickes after the service.
Teresa Lynn Teter
Teresa Lynn Teter, age 37, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, March 1, 2003 in Ft. Worth, Tex.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6 in Nelson Funeral Service Chapel in Green Forest with Pastor Larry Montgomery and Rev. Freddy Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in Pickens cemetery.
She was born July 22, 1965 in Harrison to Larry and Myrna Chaney Teter; was a member of First Baptist Church of De Queen; a graduate of Williams College in Walnut Ridge; and a former employee of Farm Service Agency.
She is survived by her father, Larry Teter of Green Forest; her mother, Myrna Chaney of De Queen; one brother, Kevin Teter of Green Forest; one sister, Tonja Smith of Berryville; her grandmother, Raffaelita Teter of Green Forest; and two nieces.
James Maurice Steiner
James Maurice Steiner, age 80, resident of Winthrop, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Hess and Rev. Audie Dawson officiating. Burial followed in Campground cemetery.
He was born Jan. 17, 1923 in Rotan, Tex.; was a retired sawmill worker; and a member of the RLDS Church. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Virginia Weems Steiner; his stepmother, Mary Reaves Steiner; and two brothers, Raymond Steiner and Cyrus Steiner.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene Paschen Steiner; two sons, James Steiner of Winthrop and Billy Steiner of Ashdown; two daughters, Edna Morphew of Nash, Tex., and Emma Cook of Winthrop; two sisters, Evelyn Skinner of Onley, Md., and Emily Utterback of Buckner, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at the funeral home.
