Mr. Walter Edwin “Eddie” Pettigrew
Mr. Walter Edwin “Eddie” Pettigrew, age 48, a resident of Ashdown, died Tuesday, February 24th in a Little Rock Hospital.
He was born to James Edwin “Cowboy” and Loretta Stringfellow Pettigrew On January 25, 1967 in De Queen, Arkansas. He was an electrician with Chewning & Wilmer Contractors, and was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church in Texarkana. He was a member of IBEW Local 301, and enjoyed farming, gardening, tractors, and the time he spent with his family.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Renee Pettigrew of Ashdown, two daughters and a son-in-law, Paige and Cody Keiss of Watson, Okla., Kayla Pettigrew of Horatio, a step-daughter, Rachel Pittman of Texarkana, Texas, two sons, Eric Pettigrew of Broken Bow, Okla., and Josiah Pettigrew of Ashdown, two steps, Josh and his wife, Meagan Pittman of Los Angeles, Calif, and Caleb Pittman of Texarkana, Texas, six grandchildren, Adalie, Kynlie, Colter, Cason, Baylie, and Jaxon; his mother, Loretta Reid of Horatio, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Nathan and Marilyn Irvan of Ashdown, and Jeff and Terri Irvan of Horatio, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Vicki and Fred Bodine of Horatio, Karen and Mike Montalvo of Palestine, Texas, and Nita and Kent Morris of Gillham, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Eddie Pettigrew will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 1st in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, Ark. with Rev. Jimmy Roden, Rev. Joey Brewer, and Rev. Kevin Meyers officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Cemetery, Horatio, Ark. under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Saturday, February 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Barbara Jo Stuart Anderson
Mrs. Barbara Jo Stuart Anderson, age 85, a resident of Foreman, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 in Ashdown, Arkansas.
She was born to Joe Dillon and Mae Coffman Stuart in Horatio, Arkansas, on November 4, 1929. She grew up in Horatio and worked for White Lumber Company. She also worked for the City of Ashdown, and the City of Foreman, were she served as recorder/treasurer, water clerk, and city council. She also worked for the Horatio School District and the City of Horatio as recorder/treasurer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Camellia Garden Club, where she was past president. She was also a member of the American Legion. Above all, Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a gourmet cook and loved the time she spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Shirley Pieratt, and a son, Billy Mack Anderson, and in 2002, her husband, Glendon Anderson.
She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Glen David and Virginia Anderson of Foreman, Sylvester “Sonny” and Wanda Anderson of White Oak, Texas, John and Effie Anderson and Olen Anderson both of Foreman, and Albert and Donna Anderson of Texarkana, Arkansas, six daughters and sons-in-law, Bernice Whitworth of Mesquite, Texas, Theresa and Tim Woods, Cindy Ross, Shirley Beth Anderson and Donnetta and Stephen Houser all of Foreman, Cheryl and Jim Brinkley of Shinewell, Okla., and Alicia and Nick Cruz of Vilonia, Arkansas, one brother and sister-in-law, Charles Edward and Mary Alice Stuart of Nederland, Texas, one sister, Theda Ann Ward of Horatio, 31 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Barbara Anderson will be held Friday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00 P.M., in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Virgil Romine and Sister Joyce Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, February 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Wayne Cortez Gilbert
Wayne Cortez Gilbert, age 82, of Texarkana, Texas, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Gilbert was born September 14, 1932 in Daisy, Arkansas. He was a retired insurance adjuster, former police officer for the Ft. Worth Police Department, member of the First Baptist Church, Nash, 32nd degree Mason and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Gilbert
He is survived by his wife Anita Fleming Gilbert of Texarkana, Texas; three daughters and three sons-in-law: Lou Ann and Mark Foster of Texarkana, Texas, Angela and Phillip Peek of Wake Village, Texas, Cathy and Steve Carter of Greenwood, Arkansas; one brother: Bobby Harper of Dierks, Arkansas; five grandchildren: Timothy Foster, Christopher Foster, Taylor Peek, Connor Peek, Alexander Carter and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kelly Shanks officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Edna Virginia “Dutch” Ray Darity
Mrs. Edna Virginia “Dutch” Ray Darity, age 89, a resident of Eagletown, Oklahoma died Sunday, February 22, 2015 in Idabel, Oklahoma.
She was born March 21, 1925 in Cove, Arkansas. She was a homemaker, gardener and raised milk cows.
Mrs. Darity was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mamie Faye Powers Ray; husband, Walter Edward Darity; one brother, Wesley Ray and one sister, Lexie Minor.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Wayne and Barbara Darity of Sulphur Springs, Texas; three daughters and two brothers-in-law, Pat and Jerry Jones of Petal, Mississippi, Velma Winship of Idabel and Sharon and Russell Bohanan of Eagletown; nine grandchildren, Mark, Cliff and Anthony Darity, Jay and Monty Jones, Shawna and Klyne Hughes and Kevin and Mark Winship; a number of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Darity will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen, Arkansas with Cy Davis, minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Eagletown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Nelvin B. “Butch” Ruth
Mr. Nelvin B. “Butch” Ruth, age 65, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at his home.
He was born March 17, 1949 in De Queen, Arkansas. He was the owner of B&H Trash Service, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He loved hunting and fishing and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.I. “Pete” and Dolly Lucille Bailey Ruth, and a sister, Kelly Ruth.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Whisenhunt Ruth of Lockesburg; his children, Heath Ruth of Lockesburg, Ann Ruth of Lockesburg, Matthew Ruth of De Queen, Dawn(Clyde) Miller of Nashville, Arkansas, Leaoriea Scott of Lockesburg and Mark Ruth of Lockesburg; two special daughters-in-law, Candy Ruth and Paula Gena Ruth; his grandchildren, Cheyenne Nichole Miller, Leaoriea Miller, Mikaela Ruth, Bo Daniel Ruth, Shaylee Autumn Ruth, Cody Green, Lynwood Scott, and Weston Scott; two great grandsons, Eli Jacob Miller and Zayden Blaze Green; three brothers, Lynn Ruth, Elzia Ruth and Farron Ray Ruth; two sisters, Sharron Little and Evon Cox; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Ruth will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Arnold Gene McBride, Sr.
Mr. Arnold Gene McBride, Sr., age 71, a resident of the Dierks, Arkansas, died Saturday, February 21, 2015, in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He was born August 2, 1943 in Talihina, Oklahoma. He was a Millwright for Weyerhaeuser.
Mr. McBride was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Daisy Fletcher McBride; his wife, Marie Adams McBride and one son, Arnold Gene McBride, Jr.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mack and Kerry McBride of Dierks; two daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa and Douglas Wiley of Jonesville, Louisiana and Angela Vineyard of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister Linda Gray of Texarkana; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. McBride will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2015, in the Dierks Cemetery with Chuck Reel officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 24th at the Dierks Chapel.
JIMMY HOOKER
Mr. James Alton "Jimmy" Hooker, age 75, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Lockesburg, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at his home.
He was born to Clifton Leo and Faye Conatser Hooker at Brownstone, Arkansas, on august 3, 1939. Jimmy served in the Military with the U.S. Army in Germany. He was retired from Arkla Gas Company, Hooker Tire Company in Nashville, and Tires Plus in De Queen. he was a member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of over 47 years, Nelda Jones Hooker.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Mandy Hooker of De Queen, a granddaughter, Courtney Hooker of Hot Springs, a grandson and his wife, Trevor and Katie Hooker of De Queen, a great-granddaughters Elliott Estelle Hooker of De Queen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, C.L. and Darlene Hooker of Dodge City, Kansas, and Charles and Cathy Hooker of Dierks, a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Willie Harrison of Lockesburg. Jimmy is also survived by his wife's family, two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Hubert and Laura Jones of Hot Springs, and Jerry and Pat Jones of Petal, MS, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mr. Jimmy Hooker will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 22nd in the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Provo road, Lockesburg with Bro. Larry Frye and Bro. Joe Carlton officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
