Vivian Vaughn Davis
Mrs. Vivian Vaughn Davis, long-time resident of the Chapel Hill Community in De Queen passed away February 19 at the age of 95. Mrs. Davis, who was born March 16, 1919, was the daughter of the late George Vaughn and Rosie Collum Vaughn and the widow of Levi Davis. She is survived by her three children, Levi Davis, Jr. of Monticello; Novadean Shelton and Imagean Cox, both of De Queen. She was the proud grandmother of six: John David Cox, Mia Revels, Charles Revels, James Revels, Susan Davis Phillips and Ward Davis. In addition to her grandchildren, Mrs. Davis had eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She loved for her family to gather at her home for big pot-luck meals to celebrate holidays and birthdays. She was an artist at crochet and quilting who also loved gardening, raising flowers, cooking and canning.
The family will welcome visitors at the home of Imagean Cox, 217 N. 11th St. in De Queen.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Elsie Mae Hensley Clowers
Mrs. Elsie Mae Hensley Clowers, age 91, resident of De Queen, died Monday, February 16, 2015, in the De Queen Therapy and Living Center.
She was born to Jake and Myrtle Lea Sutton Hensley in Horatio, Arkansas, on April 13, 1923. Elsie was a member of the Church of Christ and was retired from De Queen High School Cafeteria and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening , listening to music, working outdoors and absolutely adored her family.
Besides her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Porter Clowers, two sons Dale Clowers and Donny Clowers and her siblings, Thelma , Velma, Manuel, and Margaret. She is survived a son and daughter- in- law; Gene and Judy Clowers of De Queen, seven grandchildren, Jeff Clowers and Jennifer Clowers Hill of Nixa, Missouri, Robbie Clowers of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Beau Clowers, and Heather Morris of De Queen, Mindy Brinkman of Hope, Arkansas, and Carrie Pesetsky of Stillwater, Oklahoma, fifteen great-grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Frances Hensley of Bella Vista, Arkansas, one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Frances and Fred Veazey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two daughters-in-laws, Brenda Clowers of De Queen, and Marie Clowers of Nixa, Missouri, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Mae Clowers will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 20th in the Redmen Cemetery with Bobby Tatum and Tye Barnett officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Thursday, February 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. .
Roy Lee Davis
Mr. Roy Lee Davis, age 86, a resident of Eagletown, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015, in Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born October 3, 1928 in the West Otis Community, near Horatio, Arkansas. He was a welder, millwright, served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mattie Bailey Davis; his wife, Ethel Geraldine Davis; two sons, Donnie Davis and Doug Davis and one grandson, Clayton Cribb.
He is survived by two sons, Danny Davis and David Davis both of Eagletown; three daughters, Diane Chambless of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Devonne Davis Cribb and Debra Kessler both of Eagletown; eight grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Davis will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 21, 2015, in the West Otis Cemetery with Cy Davis officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Timothy William (Pops) Conatser
Timothy William (Pops) Conatser, 63, of De Queen, AR went to be with his wife Peggy waiting on him in Heaven on February 15, 2015.
Timothy was born August 18, 1951 in San Antonio, TX to Jerry and Pearl Conatser. His family moved to Horatio, AR when he was 10 years old. He graduated from Horatio High School in 1969 and attended SAU in Magnolia for 1 semester and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. Timothy served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict era, then another 14 years in the Army National Guard. Timothy married the love of his life, Peggy Louann Jones, on March 10, 1979. They were married 28 years. He was a Water Treatment Operator for the City of De Queen for the past 31 years and was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Pearl Miller Conatser; his wife Peggy Louann Conatser; his uncles Elwayne, George and Archie Conatser, and his aunt, Linda Bell Conatser.
Timothy is survived by his daughter Deborah Jones Lee of De Queen, AR, daughter and son in law Karen and David Blaire of Greenville, TX. His son and daughter in law Richard and Brandy Jones of Alexandria, LA , son Kevin Bass of Greenville, TX and son William H. Conatser of Ft. Smith, AR. Uncles David Eddie Conatser of Winsboro, AZ, Leon and Mary Conatser of Lockesburg, AR. Granddaughters Kara McCain of De Queen, AR, Jessica Caudle of Mansfield, TX, Bretta McCain of Arkadelphia, AR, Heather Terry of De Queen, AR, Candace Durgin of De Queen, AR, Franchesca and Kaitlyn Vaughn of Alexandria, LA and Ashley Young of Ft. Worth, TX. Grandsons Ricky Jones of Fayetteville, AR, Tyler Surgeon of De Queen, AR and Kyle Thompson and Johnathan Bass of Greenville, TX. 3 Great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Smallwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery in De Queen, AR.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 17th at the funeral home.
Carroll Horn
Mr. Carroll Horn, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, February 16, 2015, at his home after a long battle of cancer.
He was born to James Alexander and Francis Elizabeth McKnight Horn in Nashville, Arkansas, on October 18, 1942. Carroll served in the U. S. Army with the rank of 2nd Lt., serving in Korea with the Air Defense Artillery. He was transferred to Fort Polk as Company Commander in charge of Army trainees getting ready for Vietnam. He later transferred to the Army Reserves with the rank of Capt. and was over the 95th Division in Nashville, leaving the Reserves as Major. He was a retired industrial engineer for Weyerhaeuser Company, and a Baptist. He enjoyed photography, genealogy, and traveling.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Essie Copeland.
He is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Ida White Horn of De Queen, a sister, Jimmie Hart of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Robert Gene Runnels
Mr. Robert Gene Runnels, age 67, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, February 16th in Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana.
He was born to Harvey and Lucille Fisk Runnels in De Queen, Arkansas, on January 4, 1948. He was a former employee of Weyerhaeuser Company Dierks Mill, Loy Poag Lumber Mill, and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in Industrial maintenance. He was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ, and enjoyed his grandchildren, tractors, auctions, gardening, and having coffee with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-dad, Walter Liggin.
He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Kim Green Runnels of De Queen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Rachell Runnels of De Queen, and Steven and Mary Runnels of De Queen, three grandchildren, Kinlee, Madison, Trevor Runnels of De Queen, a brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Melissa Liggin of Horatio, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Robert Runnels will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 19th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Bobby Tatum officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery, De Queen, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Mrs. Arvie Della “Wallie” Nash Peppers
Mrs. Arvie Della “Wallie” Nash Peppers passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015. She was born in Glenwood, Arkansas on April 1, 1944, and is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lillie Mae Pardon Nash of Glenwood and one deceased sister Glennita Nash Westfall of Bonnerdale.
She was married to and preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dennis Ray Peppers. She leaves two surviving sons; Steven and Margaret Peppers of De Queen and David and Rhonda Peppers of Mena. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, four grandsons and four granddaughters. Wallie truly loved living on the farm where she and Dennis raised cows and chickens. In addition, Wallie retired after working 23 years for WalMart as a pharmacy technician.
