Gussie Dea McWhorter, Jr.

Gussie Dea McWhorter, Jr., age 78, a resident of Austin, Texas, died Sunday, February 1, 2015, in Austin.

He was born February 16, 1936, in Malvern, Arkansas.

Mr. McWhorter was preceded in death by his parents, Gussie Dea McWhorter, Sr. and Emma Loy Sanders McWhorter and one sister, Pat McWhorter Harton.

He is survived by two nephews, Sean Harton and Jon Harton both of Austin, Texas and a number of cousins.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. McWhorter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2015, in the McHorse Cemetery with Bob Sanders officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Becky Alice Chandler Allen

Mrs. Becky Alice Chandler Allen, age 78, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, died Saturday, January 31, 2015, in Baton Rouge.

She was born January 25, 1937, in Horatio, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank J. and Lona Griggs Chandler; her husband, Billy E. Allen; her siblings, Grace Settoon, Ruth Dorsey, Randall Eugene Chandler, Dub Chandler and Franklin Chandler.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Paul LeBlanc of St. Amant, Louisiana and Kris and Dana Spaeth of Parker, Colorado; one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Beth Hughes of De Queen, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Zack LeBlanc, Abby LeBlanc, Cassidy Spaeth, Craig Spaeth, Beau Hughes and Sadie Trevino; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Noel Duane and Sandy Chandler of Brenham, Texas and Lawrence and Marian Chandler of De Queen; one sister, Lois Wray of Cooper, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Carol Chandler of De Queen and Jane Chandler of Horatio and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Allen will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2015, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 2, 2015, at the funeral home.

Autherene Cowling Peek

Mrs. Autherene Cowling Peek, age 92, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Friday, January 30, 2015, in Rogers, Arkansas.

She was born April 17, 1922 in Nashville, Arkansas and was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Dierks. Mrs. Peek was a hairdresser in Dierks for many years and was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many.

Mrs. Peek was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nellie Cowling; her husband, Huel Peek and a daughter, Lynda Moore.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Brannan of Rogers, Arkansas; a son, Ronald Peek of Cabot, Arkansas; a brother, Dennis Horn of Nashville, Arkansas; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Peek will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2015, in the First Baptist Church in Dierks with Dr. David Blasé officiating. Burial will follow in the Dierks Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Mrs. Violet Maze Davis

Mrs. Violet Maze Davis, age 85, a resident of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, January 27th in the De Queen Medical Center, De Queen.

She was born to James Marshal and Lula May Peacock Maze in Bowie County, Texas, on March 31, 1929. She was a member of the Broken Bow Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and a homemaker. She enjoyed plants, decorating, quilting, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison D. Davis, a daughter, Gwen Reynolds, a granddaughter, Heather Reynolds, her parents, and her siblings, Pearl Lambert, Esther Huff, Gladys McGinty, and James Maze.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Jerry Brazeal of De Queen, Vickey and Clarence Schaffer of Idabel, Oklahoma, and Rebecca Davis of Broken Bow, Okla., Two granddaughters, Shannon Schaffer and Julie Ward, three great-grandchildren, Kristin Ward, Austin Ward, and Tristin Ward, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Violet Davis will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 31st in the Broken Bow Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Cremation under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Tina R. Watson

Mrs. Tina R. Watson, age 69, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, January 23, 2015, in the Christus St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana.

She was born July 25, 1945, in De Queen. She was “retired” from the First State Bank in De Queen and the EZ Mart Corporation. She was a member of the Kern Heights Baptist Church.

Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her parents, Cue Runyan and Elizabeth Ann Mabry Runyan Knod and a step brother, Chris Runyan.

She is survived by two stepbrothers, Glen Knod of Ashdown, Arkansas and Phillip Runyan of Massachusetts; two stepsisters, Jeannie Edwards of Texarkana and Janna Clinton of Eagle River, Alaska; two aunts, Mary Mabry of Mesquite, Texas and LaVada Rucker of Birmingham, Alabama; cousins and Kern Heights Church family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Watson will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015, in the Kern Heights Baptist Church with Rusty Ross and Jordan Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson

Nancy Dedner Harris

Nancy Dedner Harris was born to Rodney Dock and Louise Dedner in Lockesburg, Arkansas, on June 28, 1964. Her transition to eternal rest was made on January 21, 2015 at her home in Texarkana, Arkansas. Nancy confessed to Christ at an early age. She served as pianist for the New Zion choir in her early years. She attended Lockesburg Public Schools and graduated in 1982 as Valedictorian of her class. Nancy continued her education at Texarkana Community College where she graduated with honors with a degree in computers. She worked many years for Albertson’s Grocery Store. Most recently she was employed by WEST Business Solutions. Nancy had a wide variety of interests including: playing the piano, cooking, shopping and bargain-hunting and she loved games of chance.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Rodney Bernard Dedner and Robert Humphrey; and one sister, Rose Cornelius.

She leaves to cherish her memory: five sisters, Martha K. Dedner of Camden, AR, Janet Jones (Ed) of Delight, AR, Wanda Dedner of Rockwall, TX, Neever Martinez of DeQueen, AR, and Miriam Dedner of Garland, TX; three brothers, Arthur Humphrey of Lockesburg, AR, James Humphrey of Amarillo, TX, and Jarvis Dedner of Tom, OK; brother-in-law, Dwayne Cornelius of Texarkana, AR and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services for Ms. Nancy Harris will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, January 25th at the New Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Ronald Goodloe officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Community Cemetery, Lockesburg, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Saturday, January 24th.

Thelma Jean Jones

Mrs. Thelma Jean Miller Jones, age 89, a resident of De Queen, Died Thursday, January 22, 2013 at her home.

She was born to Elison Lee and Verna Lee Ramsey Miller on February 9, 1925 in De Queen, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Time Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, her flowers, and corralling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Jones and her brother Robert Miller.

She is survived by a son Charles Jones and wife Pam of Covington, Louisiana; a daughter, Marsha Sanders and husband Dan of Horatio, Arkansas; two grandchildren: Jarrad Jones of new Orleans, Louisiana and Lee Ann Reed of Horatio, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren: McKenzie Reed, Turner Reed and Clayburn LaDesma all of Horatio, Arkansas; a brother and sister-in-law, Eldon and merle Miller of Horatio; a sister, Opal lee Emerson of De Queen; a sister-in-law Kathleen Miller of Horatio, Arkansas; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Jones will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Shane Haarmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, January 23rd from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
