Eugene Hilton
Mr. Eugene Harold Hilton, age 87, a resident of Winthrop, died Thursday, September 25, 2003 at his home.
He was born February 27, 1916 in Leslie, Arkansas. He was a re-tired chief warrant officer in the U.S. Navy having served in World War II, a former employee of Sherman Williams Paint Company and Red River Army Depot and a member of the Winthrop First Baptist Church.
Mr. Hilton was preceded in death by his parents: John Douglas and Florence Ragsdale Hilton.
He is survived by his wife: Berneice Taylor Hilton; one daughter and son-in-law: Wanda Jeane and Carl Kelso of California; two sons and daughters-in-law: Harold Wayne "Rusty" and Vicki Hilton of Winthrop and Steve Keith and Geri Hilton of Prescott, Arkansas; one step-son and daughter-in-law: Ronnie E. and Branda Tyson Sr. of Groves, Texas; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Hilton were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 27, 2003 in the First Baptist Church in Winthrop with Rev. Audie Dawson officiating. Burial followed in the Campground cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, September 26 at the funeral home.
Elmer Leon Hartness
Elmer Leon Hartness, age 88, resident of Dierks, and formerly of Nashville, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 in a Dierks nursing home.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1 in Bluff Springs cemetery with Rev. Harold Wall and John Hickle officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
He was born Nov. 20, 1914 at Duckett to the late James and Renie Roads Hartness; was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church; a World War II Navy veteran; a Baptist preach-er; and a carpenter. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nettie Kate Hartness; and a grandson, Marty Wayne Hartness.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Hartness of Lockesburg; a son, James M. Hartness of Nashville; a stepdaughter, Doris Vinson of Fayetteville; two sisters, Lavell Bevill of Nashville and Lois King of Mineral Springs; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Samuel Clabe Bullard Jr.
Samuel Clabe Bullard Jr., age 51, resident of Lockesburg, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at his home.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 in Belleville cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born Dec. 4, 1951 in Oklahoma to Samuel Clabe Sr. and Anita Jewell Edge Bullard; and was a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Jana Polk Bullard of Lockesburg; one son, Joshua Clabe Bullard of Lock-esburg; one daughter, Jacqueline Wenona Angerbauer of Rison; one stepdaughter, Marcie Markle of Lockesburg; two stepsons, Jamie Wake of De Queen and Jeremy Wake of Lockesburg; two brothers, Jackie Carl Bullard of Grove, Okla., and Paul Bullard of Tampa Bay, Fla.; two sisters, Carol Tasso of Kingfisher, Okla., and Tammy Bunn of Texarkana; one half-brother, Kenneth Bullard of Texarkana; and six grandchildren.
Charles Martin Jr.
Charles Martin Jr., age 70, resident of Lockesburg, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 at his home.
Cremation was under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born May 30, 1933; and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by his wife, Lou Ann McFaul Martin in January, 2003.
Estella Wheeler
Mrs. Estella Wylie Wheeler, age 83, resident of Little Rock, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 in St. Vincent Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 in Gillham cemetery with Rev. Bob McManus officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
She was born on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1919 in Gillham; was a homemaker; and a Baptist. She was predeceased by her parents, Will and Dolly Widner Wylie.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. William Wheeler of Tulsa, Okla., and Frank Wheeler of Little Rock; one daughter, Nona Mae Anderson of Haughton, La.; two brothers, Weldon Wylie of Alvarado, Tex., and Ellis Wylie of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Daniel E. Long
Daniel E. Long, age 86, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2003 in Medical Park Hospital at Hope.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born at Pine Mills, Tex., to Milton J. and Jessie Munn Long; was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II; a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church; and was retired from Moran Oil Company. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Graffham on Sept. 25, 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Angie Almond Long of De Queen; a grandson; and two nieces and one nephew.
Ruth Dossey
Ruth Henry Dossey, age 96, resident of Lodi, Calif., died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 in Ham Lane Church of Christ under the direction of Ghierheart, Wells & Donahue Funeral Home.
She was born May 27, 1907 in Cerro Gordo; was a homemaker; and a member of the Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her husband Kelsey Dossey in 1975, son Lester Dossey in 1985, and four grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Vernon Dossey of Aumsville, Ore., Kenneth Dossey of Lodi, Calif., Bill Dossey of De Queen, and Kelsey Dossey Jr. of Sumpter, Ore.; three daughters, Jackie Davis and Helen Harkrider, both of Broken Bow, Okla., and Eloise Coats of Shafter, Calif.; 31 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
William Douglas Peppers
William Douglas Peppers, infant son of Steven and Margaret Peppers, residents of De Queen, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 in Wadley Regional Medical Center at Texarkana.
Memorial services are pending and will be announced later by Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Dennis Wayne Peppers of De Queen; two sisters, Bonnie Grace Peppers of Broken Bow, Okla., and Ruby Abigail Peppers of De Queen; his grandparents, Dennis and Wallie Peppers of De Queen and Wayne and Frances Brawley of Silsbee, Tex.; his great-grandparents, Lillie Mae Nash of De Queen, Dell Peppers of Glenwood, and Mildred Moore of Silsbee, Tex.
John Glasgow
John Bonar Glasgow, age 32, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at his home.
He was born August 27, 1971, in Jackson, Mississippi. He was a student at the University of Alaska and attended the Anchor Park Methodist Church in Anchorage.
He was preceded in death by his father: Joseph Leland Glasgow; his son: Joseph Bonar Glasgow; his grandparents: John Leland and Venus Martindale Glasgow and Edrie and Ralph Bonar; and his uncle: David Charles Bonar.
He is survived by his daughter: Jordan Elise Glasgow of Anchorage; his mother: Jeanne Bonar Glasgow of Anchorage; his sister: Leslie Ann Glasgow of Anchorage; his brother: David Leland Glasgow of New Orleans, Louisiana; his nephew: Ian Matthew Glasgow of Anchorage; his aunt and uncle: Mary Dale and Billy Coulter of Lockesburg; his aunt: Judy Bonar; three cousins: Joe Coulter, John Coulter, and Ann Coulter Clemans; his former wife: Debra Frances Baker; and step-daughter: Jamie Lee Pender.
Funeral services for John Bonar Glasgow were held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2003 in the First United Methodist Church in Lockesburg with Rev. Lynn McClure officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the funeral home.
Clinneth Lindsey
Clinneth Lindsey, 66, of Mineral Springs, was born June 29, 1937 in Howard County, the son of the late Abe and Edna Roberson Lindsey, went to be with the Lord, September 14, 2003, with his family by his side. Services were scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, at Latimer Funeral Home Chapel, with Bros. Donnie Davis and James Ross officiating, burial in Wrights Chapel cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
Mr. Lindsey was a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church; a retired employee of Red River Army Depot and Mineral Springs Public School. He was an Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Lindsey of Mineral Springs, Ark.; sons, Eddie Lindsey and wife, Misty, of Mineral Springs, Ark., and John Lindsey and wife, Missy, of Mineral Springs, Ark.; daughter, Tonya Bell and husband, Skip, of Texarkana, Ark.; sisters, Edna Jo Hill of Brownstown, Ark. and Abeline Prather of Tatum, Tex.; grandchildren, Karly and Tara Bell and Hannah and Matthew Lindsey; a number of nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.
The family was at 216 E. McCrary, Mineral Springs, Ark.

Finlus Junior Vance
Finlus Junior Vance, age 61, resident of De Queen, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003 in the University of Arkansas Medical Science Hospital at Little Rock.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26 in Avon cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker and Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born March 14, 1942 in De Queen to Renzer H. and Fannie May Persinger Vance; was a member of First Assembly of God Church of Horatio; and an employee of the Sevier County Farmer’s Co-Operative in De Queen with 34 years service.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Hughes Vance of De Queen; two sons, Bobby Vance of Horatio and Jimmy Vance of De Queen; a brother, Renzer Vance of De Queen; two sisters, Mattie Jean Riggs of Mt. View, Okla., and Lorene Brizendine of De Queen; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
