Biographical And Historical Memoirs of Pulaski, Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, Grant, Saline, Perry, Garland And Hot Spring Counties, Arkansas

Mrs. Pauline Ruth Newton Magby
Mrs. Pauline Ruth Newton Magby, age 74, a resident of Ashdown, Arkansas died Tuesday, December 2, 2014, in Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown.

She was born May 31, 1940 in Howard County. She was retired from retail sales.

Mrs. Magby was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Wofford and Louis Magby; her parents, William “Bill” Walker Newton and Marjorie Ruth Porter Newton and one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hollowell.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura and Lance Wise of Tom, Oklahoma and Melanie and Robert Cowley of DeKalb, Texas; one brother, Perry Newton of Ashdown, Arkansas and two grandchildren, Ty Wise and Amanda Magby.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2014, at the Alleene Cemetery Pavilion with Bro. Audie Dawson officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

O. H. "Rusty" Durham
Omagene Hopkins "Rusty" Durham, age 88, a longtime resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in the De Queen Medical Center. Born January 4, 1926 in Walnut Springs, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Herbert Moss and Pearl Irene Beauchamp Durham.

He grew up and received his education in De Queen. He was a 1944 graduate of De Queen High School. As a young man he joined the United States Marine Corp serving in the Pacific during World War II. Returning to Arkansas he attended Arkansas Tech University. He also served in the Korean War.

For several years he traveled extensively with his job as a salesman for Myers Pumps. He later entered the world of politics and served as Sevier County judge for twelve years. He was also involved in other aspects of government including city council and quorum court.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Judy Shockley Durham; three brothers, Herbert Lyndon Durham, Lowell Edward Durham and Forney Manning Durham and one sister, Dixie Maurice Durham Smythe.

Mr. Durham is survived by his twin sister, Imogene Margaret Durham of De Queen; one son, James Wade Durham of Hatfield; one step-daughter, Jamie Thompkins and husband Buddy of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina; one step-son, David Dobbs and wife Tammy of Cabot; one grandson, Devin Durham and step grandson Dustin Skaggs both of Hatfield; his step-grandchildren Mathew and Jacque Thompkins and Justin, Lauren and Laney Dobbs of Cabot, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Durham was a faithful member of De Queen First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the De Queen Lions Club. He was an inventor and entrepreneur and an avid Leopard and Razorback fan. He was loved and respected by his family and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

To honor Rusty Durham's memory his family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the memorial fund at De Queen First United Methodist Church, 424 West Heynecker, De Queen, AR 71832.

Mr. Otis J. Powell, Sr.

Mr. Otis James Powell, Sr., age 64, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, November 25th in the Christus St. Michael Health System.

He was born to Jessie J and Inez Jones Powell at De Queen, Arkansas on September 22, 1950. He was a 1968 graduate of Horatio high School, and was retired from the D&E O&E Railroad with 29 years service. he was a member of the Mt. Phoebe Baptist Church in Horatio, but attended Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ and New Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed coaching and playing baseball, basketball, and football, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. he also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and dancing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Patricia Powell and Dorothy Powell, a son Otis Powell, Jr. a grandson, Otis Powell, III, and a brother-in-law, Curtis Bennett.

He is survived by seven sons and daughters-in-law: David Darnell Phillips of Waukegan, IL, Cory Powell of Humble, Texas, Justin Powell of De Queen, Charles and Shaw Johnson, Lonnie Johnson, Jimmy Ray Johnson, all of De Queen and Kevin Wayne Johnson of Conway, AR,; five daughters and sons-in-law: Gwendolyn Bell of De Queen, Sandra and Ronnie Anderson, Naudine Powell and Caleb Mills all of De Queen, Viola and Fred Spencer of Waukegan, IL and Gaberilla Powell of Keller, TX; a brother, Roy Powell; a sister, Martha Powell Bennett of De Queen; twenty-nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a nephew, William A. Bennett of De Queen and a special friend, Sharon Robertson of De Queen.

Funeral services for Mr. Otis Powell will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29th, in the Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ with Rev. E.A. Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Acres, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Billy Gene Trusley

Mr. Billy Gene Trusley, age 60, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at his home.

He was born November 24, 1954 in Wenatchee, WA. He was a truck driver.

Mr. Trusley was preceded in death by his father, William Earl Trusley and one sister, Carolyn Davis.

He is survived by one son, Jesse Gene Trusley; two daughters, Regina Lavelle Trusley and Liz Ann Trusley all of De Queen; his mother, Helen Trusley; one brother, Jimmy Trusley and one sister, Sandy Gabbard all of Lockesburg and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2014, in the Lockesburg Cemetery with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mr. Pedro Saldivar

Mr. Pedro Saldivar, age 62, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 26th in the Baptist Health Medical Center, Little Rock, AR.

He was born to Ignacio Saldivar and Guadalupe Perez in Reynosa, Mexico on September 24, 1952. He was an employee of Pruett's Foods as their meat market manager as well as owner of Pedro's Recycling. He was a member of the St. Barbara's Catholic Church, where he was a musician. He enjoyed playing the guitar, working and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Concha Saldivar.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Saldivar of De Queen, one son and daughter-in-law, Pedro and Malu Saldivar of Las Vegas, NV; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sonia and Carlos Perez of Berryville, AR, Adriana Saldivar of De Queen, and Imelda and Evan Taylor of Berryville, AR, Cindy Mashburn of Nashville, AR, and JoDee and Wes Turner of Cowhide Cove, AR, 16 grandchildren,: Jose, Mariana, Alan, Alexis, Annel, Carla, Charlie, Omega, Whitney, Melody, Zoey, Ivy, Abbigail, AnDrew, Autumn, and Gus; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Jose. He is also survived by five brothers: Rafael Saldivar, Librado Salvidar, Juan Saldivar, and Frederico Herrera all of Mexico, and Carlos Saldivar of De Queen, a sister Hortencia Herrera of Mexico, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Rosary Service for Mr. Pedro Saldivar will be held at 7:00p.m., Friday, November 28, 2014, in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen. A funeral mass will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29th in St. Barbara's Catholic Church with Father Juan Manjarrez officiating. Burial will follow in the Biggs Chapel Cemetery near Nathan, AR.

Daniel Gonzalez

Mr. Daniel Benito Gonzalez Juarez, age 18, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 22, 2914, from injuries received in an automobile accident in Texarkana, Arkansas.

He was born to Regelio German Gonzalez Cortez and Fabiola Juarez Dominguez in Mexico City, Mexico on November 27, 1995. He was a graduate of Horatio High School, and was a student in Texas A&M in Texarkana. He was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic church in De Queen, and enjoyed football, basketball, National Honor Society, Journalism, video games, history, watching sporting events, and he was seeking a degree in Math and coaching.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Benito Juarez, and a sister, Danahe Gonzalez.

He is survived by his parents, Rogelio German Gonzalez Cortez and Fabiola Juarez Dominguez of Mexico City, Mexico; a brother, Yermy Gonzalez, a sister Nallely Gonzalez, both of Horatio; his grandparents, Rita Dominguez of Mexico City, Mexico; Martha Gonzalez and Rogelio Gonzalez of Mexico City, Mexico; two nephews, Alexander Perez and Derek Perez, both of Grannis, AR.

A rosary for Mr. Daniel Gonzalez will be held at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2014, in St. Barbara's Catholic Church. Visitation will follow. A funeral mass for Mr. Daniel Gonzalez will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26th in St. Barbara's Catholic Church with Father Juan Manjarrez officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Windell Lee Whisenhunt

Windell Lee Whisenhunt, age 73, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas, died Friday, November 21, 2014, in Dierks Health and Rehab.

He was born June 20, 1941 in Arkinda, Arkansas. He worked in saw mills and was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.

Mr. Whisenhunt was preceded in death by his parents, Seth Able and Hazel Annielee Hanley Whisenhunt and one brother, Homer Ray Whisenhunt.

He is survived by his sister, Mary McAllister of Hooks, Texas; one niece and three nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Whisenhunt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014 in the Campground Cemetery with Rev. Gary Steiner officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen
