April Michelle Taylor
April Michelle Taylor, age 27, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at her home.
She was born in Texarkana, Texas, on April 1, 1987, and attended the Assembly of God Church of Horatio. She enjoyed country music, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her biological mother, Lorissa Vickers Douglas, and her great-grandfather, Claude Dorsey.
She is survived by her mother, Claudette Taylor of De Queen, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Johnny Davis of Dierks, Arkansas, Robin and Edward Bell of Rosebud, Arkansas and Julie and Jose Perez of De Queen, her biological grandparents, Larry and Lana Jo Vickers of De Queen, her great-grandmother, Ruth Dorsey of De Queen, and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other family members.
Funeral Services for April Taylor will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 24, 2014 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joey Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Redmen Cemetery. The family will received friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Thursday, October 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
George Lemuel “Poppa” McNully
George Lemuel “Poppa” McNully, 82, of Shady Point, Okla., passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Fort Smith. Lemuel was born February 22, 1932 in Horatio, to Sammie Roy and Lucy Moore McNully. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was an ordained minister.
He taught school in Arkansas, California and Oklahoma, was a welder, and also worked in construction. He was known by his smile. He loved people and they loved him. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Leah Goodwin Graves; his parents; and seven siblings, Viola M. Alexander, Bera M. Cook, Clifton (Bud), Lahoma, Sidney, Claud and Carlos.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patricia Hicks McNully, of the home; three sons and a daughter-in-law: Roy of NM, Richard and wife Laurie of Vancouver, Wash., and Raylon of DeQueen; daughter & son in law, Rhonda and Boyd Goodwin of Shady Point, Okla.; six grandchildren; and three great grandsons.
Other survivors include five siblings: Lillie M. Martin of Galveston, Texas; Lyda M. Reinheimer, Lindendale, Texas; Lester (and wife Itoko), Tucson, Ariz.; James (and wife Deanna) of DeQueen; and David, Little Rock; his brother Claud’s widow, Shirley Boyd McNully of Edmond, Okla.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and many beloved friends.
Mrs. Alma Angeline Taylor Pickens Pool
Mrs. Alma Angeline Taylor Pickens Pool, age 93, a resident of Lockesburg, died Sunday, October 19, 2014 at her home.
She was born to Earl and Annie Jones Taylor in Foreman, Arkansas, on May 30, 1921. She was a member of the Lockesburg Methodist Church, and also attended Milford Church, and loved singing gospel songs. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed yard work and spending time with her family. She loved being part of the De Queen Hospital Auxiliary and singing with the group.
Mrs. Pool was preceded in death by her father and mother, Earl and Annie Taylor, her husbands, Luther Pickens, and Raymond Pool, a grandson, Grant Todd, her twin brother, Elmer, her brothers, Earvin and Arnold, and sisters, Verdie Lucille, Pearl and Beulah.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Wanda Hladik of Lockesburg, Patricia and Terry Todd of Lockesburg, a grandson, Kerry Todd of Lockesburg, four step-grandchildren, Billy and his wife, Angie, Ladonna and her husband, Chris, Robert and his wife, Candi, and Dwayne all of Oklahoma, two great-grandchildren, Austin and Tanner of Dallas, Texas, one great-great-grandchild, Tatum, twelve step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends. She is also survived by one sister, Eula LaGrone of Orange, Texas, one brother-in-law, Frank Enoch of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Alma Pickens Pool will be held Thursday, October 23rd at 2:00 P.M., in the First United Methodist Church of Lockesburg, with Rev. Terry Chapman and Rev. Tommy Halsell officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockesburg Cemetery, Lockesburg, Ark. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Angeline Hopson Penney
Angeline Hopson Penney, age 94, was surrounded by her family when she passed from this life to be with her Lord, on Monday, October 13, 2014, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born to Benjamin Stuart and Sarah Elsie Hord Hopson, in De Queen, Arkansas on Wednesday, June 16, 1920. She was a lifelong resident of Sevier County and married the love of her life, Erman Tam Penney, in De Queen, on August 27, 1938. To this marriage two daughters and one son were born. She was a Methodist, a member of the EHC Club, and Union Quilting Club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, was active in the community where she judged area county fairs, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed genealogy and spent hours in that activity. Above all, Angeline was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great-great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over 52 years, E.T. Penney, their infant son Rodger Stuart Penney, and a son-in-law Harold Brazile and her siblings, Benny R. Hopson, Lucille Gray, Naomi Brooks, and Mary Ann Lacefield.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Brazile of Amarillo, Texas, and Marian and Lawrence Chandler of De Queen. She was “Momo” to her four grandchildren and their spouses, Lyndon and Tracie Brazile of Canyon, Texas, Steve and Lorraine Brazile of St. Louis, Missouri, Kim and Tim Benson of Amarillo, Texas, and Stephanie and Greg Wishard of De Queen, and her eight great-grandchildren, McKenzie Brazile of Clovis, New Mexico and Magen Brazile of Canyon, Texas, Emerson Brazile, Addison Brazile, and Camden Brazile, all of St. Louis, Missouri, J. D. Benson of Amarillo, Texas, Lawrence Allen Wishard and Andrea Wishard both of De Queen, and to her two great-great-granddaughters, Macee Brazile of Canyon, Texas, and Khloé Grace Wishard of De Queen, a sister, Margaret Arms of Winston, Oregon, and a number of nieces and nephews, and special neighbors, Pete and Becky Stiles of De Queen.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Angeline Penney will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 16, 2014 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jason Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 15th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Emmitt Joe Willis
Mr. Emmitt Joe Willis, age 79, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in Mena, Arkansas.
He was born to Emmitt and Effous M. Wolf Willis, on July 4, 1935 at Willis Springs, Oklahoma. Joe served in the military with 101st Air Borne in the U. S. Army, and later in the National Guard. He was an entrepreneur in Land, Timber, Saw Milling, and Building . He was a Christian and a seeker of Truth and lover of people of Faith. He was a great hunter, and fisherman, and enjoyed his family, and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Roy Willis, Thelma Colston, Audie Dunn, Wanda Peek, and Bonnie LeForce.
Joe is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Yvonne Greene Willis of De Queen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Paula Willis of Frankston, Texas, and Danny and Lisa Willis of De Queen, five grandchildren, Joey Willis of De Queen, Hayln Willis, and Dylan Willis both of Frankston, Texas, Joshua Willis and Sam Willis both of De Queen, three sisters and a brother-in-law, Polly Ray Williams of Horatio, Dixie Cavender of De Queen, and Hope and Don Gore also of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s family, a brother-in-law, Gerald Greene, and his wife, Louise of Athens, Arkansas, and a number of very special friends.
Public visitation will be on Thursday, October 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services for Joe Willis will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 10th in the First Assembly of God Church, De Queen, with Pastor Lankford Moore officiating. Private Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas, or the Samaritian’s Purse in the name of Emmitt Joe Willis.
Brenda Joy McGlaun Roberts
Mrs. Brenda Joy McGlaun Roberts, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, October 3rd in the De Queen Medical Center.
She was born to Robert Henry and Opal Faye Humphries McGlaun on October 23, 1941, in Mabank, Texas. She was a retired security guard, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, and was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerry Martin Roberts, and a daughter, Brenda Kay Roberts.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Roberts of Dallas, and Jerry Roberts of De Queen, a daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Kenneth Patton of Dallas, Texas, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Roberts donated her body to medical science. Arrangements were under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Eura Dean Dunagan
Eura Dean Dunagan, age 77, of Watson, Oklahoma, died Monday, October 6, 2014 in Mena. He was born on Thursday, August 19, 1937 to Frank Benton and Mary Maude Smith Dunagan in Watson, Oklahoma.
Dean served his country in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. He worked 18 years for Alltel serving south Polk County, Arkansas and McCurtain County, Oklahoma, as well as a small business owner for many years. Dean was a longtime board member and overseer of West View Cemetery in Cove, which was dear to his heart. He loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren and also enjoyed gardening and carpentry. Dean was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marcell Dunagan; two sisters, Lettie Mae Dunagan and Cozetta Sager.
Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Julie and Aaron Stancil of Horatio, Arkansas and Christy and John Nance of Mena, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Colby Stancil, Courtney Stancil, Caitlin Stancil and Laci Stancil all of Horatio and Lindsay Onstad of Avondale, Arizona; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be Saturday October 11, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the West View Cemetery at Cove with Brother Lance Ashmore officiating. Visitation will be general at the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
