Marjorie "Margie" Pond
Mrs. Marjorie "Margie" Pond, age 83, a resident of Foreman, Arkansas, died Friday, October 3, 2014 in Ashdown, Arkansas.
she was born March 5, 1931, in Cumberland, Oklahoma. She was a home maker and a Christian.
Mrs. Pond was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil J. Pond on March 7, 2013; parents H. and Virgie Meadows Barrett; one brother, Ray Barrett.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steven W. and Dee Pond of Winthrop, Arkansas; one sister, Wilma Davis of Foreman; one grandchild, Dr. Tanya Pond of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two great-granddaughters and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pond will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 6,2013, in the Crossroads Baptist Church in Crossroads Community with Bro. Gary Steiner officiating. burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, Arkansas.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the funeral home.
Dr. Manuel Hensley
Dr. Manuel Hensley was born December 20, 1934 to Jake and Myrtle (Sutton) Hensley in Frog Level, AR and passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in the Angelwood Assisted Living Center in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Dr. Hensley was raised in De Queen, AR and graduated from De Queen High School in 1952. He began a short career with the railroad but soon attended Forestry School. In the Mid 1950's he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, served four years, and then being honorably discharged. He moved to Bethany, Oklahoma and attended Southern Nazarene College. He was married to Dorothy Clark in the late 1950's. He continued on to Oklahoma University Medical School and graduated in 1965. He did his internship at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS and his residency in Phoenix, AZ. He was Board Certified in OB GYN and he practiced over most of Oklahoma including Durant, Woodward and the majority of his practice was in Enid, OK.
He later married Shirley Schmidt on February 12, 1990 in Taos, New Mexico. They have traveled and lived in numerous places since 1995, settling in De Queen, AR in 2010.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Enid, OK and has been attending the First Baptist Church in Nashville, Arkansas. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing, he was an avid historian and especially liked Civil War History; he liked to read and spending time on the ranch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Margaret, Thelma and Velma.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home, two sons, Dr. Michael Hensley and his wife, Rachel, of Clinton, OK and Dr. John Hensley and his wife, Anne, of Enid, OK; two sisters, Elsie Clowers, De Queen, AR and Mary Frances Veazey, of Oklahoma City, OK, a brother, Bob Hensley, of Rogers, AR. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Tadyn Miller, Catherine Hensley, Porter Hensley, Tyson Miller, Christian Jake Manuel Hensley, Stella Hensley and Allison Hensley.
Funeral Services for Dr. Manuel Hensley will be held 3:00 PM., Saturday, October 4, 2014 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Donald Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of the Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Friday, October 3rd at the funeral home.
Thomas R. Bell
Thomas R. Bell, age 66, of Walla Walla, Washington and formerly of Hatton, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Washington.
He was born March 25, 1948 and was the adopted son of John and Margie Bell of Hatton. He was a 1968 graduate of Wickes High School and was a member of Hatton Baptist Church.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margie Bell, and his birth mother, Eva Wooten.
He is survived by an aunt, Thelma Jones of De Queen, Arkansas and two cousins, Marsha Sanders of Horatio, Arkansas and Charles Jones of De Queen, Arkansas.
Memorial services will be Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hatton Baptist Church. His remains will be laid to rest at the Witherspoon Cemetery.
Mrs. Laura Bell Stutts Carden
Mrs. Laura Bell Stutts Carden, age 63, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Monday, September 29, 2014, in Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.
She was born June 25, 1951, in Rosedale, Mississippi. She was a plumber’s helper for Ennis Plumbing and worked in the dietary department at Brookewood Nursing Center.
Mrs. Carden was preceded in death by her parents, Charley Walter and Ella Ann Boyd Stutts; her husband, David Carden; two brothers, Rodney Stutts and Danny Stutts; and a sister, Gail Canady.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Leigh Starwalt of De Queen; one step-son, David Carden, Jr. of Forrest City, Arkansas; a brother, Billy Charles Stutts of Gulf Port, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Jimmy, Peyton, Ashton, Austin, Ethan, Evan, and Mary; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carden will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014, in the State Line Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo, Arkansas with Larry Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in the Pauley Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the funeral home.
Mr. Joel R. “Joe” Litchford
Mr. Joel R. “Joe” Litchford, age 64, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Monday, September 29, 2014 at his home.
He was born to Joel Radford and Ethel Loretta Land Litchford, on September 18, 1950 in De Queen, Arkansas. He was a member of the First Assembly Church of Horatio. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser D.E.T.O.&E Railroad with over 37 years service. He enjoyed playing music, woodworking, but above all, Joe was devoted to his family, and absolutely adored his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James Litchford.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Chandler Litchford of Horatio, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Wendy Litchford of Horatio, Greg and Nicki Litchford also of Horatio, a daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna and Nathan Dorsey of De Queen, eight grandchildren, Kyle, Jace, Grace, Kaylee, Gabbi, Laci, Natalie, and Ty, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Wesley and Aquilla Litchford of De Queen, Earl Litchford, Dale and Fredia Litchford all of Horatio, and Chester and Pat Litchford of Little Rock, Arkansas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Joe Litchford will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 2nd in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Gutierres and Bro. Ralph Staggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Cemetery, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Mr. Thomas Theodore Michaels
Mr. Thomas Theodore Michaels, age 68, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Wednesday, October 01, 2014 at his home.
He was born to Theodore and Marie Agnes Durkowski Michalowski on August 16, 1946 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was retired from the U S Marines and also worked in management after the military. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing golf, yard work, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard Michaels, Robert John Michalowski, and a sister, Florence Michalowski.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Ann Lowrey Michaels of Lockesburg, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jarrid Nevels Francis and Joshua Lynn and Kim Francis both of Beebe, Arkansas, a daughter and son-in-law, Jaclyn and Jason Bowen of Glenwood, Arkansas. Six grandchildren, Nicki, Taylor, Payton Bowen all of Glenwood, Logan Gunter, Autumn Gunter, and Kyler Francis all of Beebe, Arkansas, a brother-in-law, Gary Lowrey and his wife, Cheryl of Lockesburg, Arkansas.
Graveside funeral services with military rites for Mr. Thomas Michaels will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 4th in the Bellville Cemetery with Rev. Burle Mattingly officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, October 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Mr. Bill Nelson
Mr. Bill Arthur Nelson, age 81, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, September 30th at his Home.
He was born to Joseph Franklin and Mary Viola Herriman Nelson in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on November 18, 1933. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser Company, having worked at Craig, Treating Plant, and Mountain Pine. He was a Baptist and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Wayne Nelson, Charles Nelson Frances Carter, Carmen Vincent, and Carolyn Wood.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sherry Nelson of De Queen, and Vincent and Margareta Nelson of Melbourne, Florida, a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steven Cook of De Queen, seven grandchildren, Jennifer Deaton, Jami Nelson, Amanda Lollis, Emily Ward, Brian Libby, Andrea Libby, and A. J. Libby, eleven great-grandchildren, one brother, Cecil Nelson of St. George, Utah, four sisters, Martha Graham of El Paso, Texas, Mary Woolever of Cedarville, Arkansas, Shirley Blythe of Rudy, Arkansas, and Norma Vera of Little Elm, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
