Mr. Jimmy Clayton Newton

Mr. Jimmy Clayton Newton, age 61, went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2014. He was born on March 23, 1953 in Ashdown, Arkansas to J. D. and Cora Mears Newton.

He was a member of the Provo Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years, and EMT for 22 years. He was active in Little League and was an umpire for the ASA and DYB for 25 years. He served as a Hunters Ed Instructor for 22 years. Jimmy worked for Weyerhaeuser for 22 years and Coca Cola for four years. Jimmy was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Fort Towson, Oklahoma. He joined the Navy straight out of school in 1972, serving during the Vietnam War and was a Christian.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Cora Newton and brother-in-law, Bobby Bradshaw.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jonnie Lynn David Newton of Provo, three daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and Jason Miller of Provo, Onawa and James Hughes of De Queen, and T. J. Newton of Provo, 11 grandchildren, Tyler, Jasie, Austin Miller all of Provo, Jonathan Buchanan, Corey and Nikki Hughes, Quentin and Taran McAllister of De Queen, Andrew and Hateya Newton of Provo and Autumn McAllister of Foreman, his father, J. D. Newton of Provo, a sister, Wannell Bradshaw of Provo, his nieces, Mindy, Kimmi, and Kaylee Simmons of Provo, his nephew and family, Chad, Carmella, Brittany, Adam and Blake Bradshaw of Provo, a host of family, friends, and extended family of Provo, VFD. He will be missed dearly by all. Jimmy was full of life and he loved helping everyone, he enjoyed spending time with family, friends, hunting, fishing, sports and drinking coffee and pepsi.

Funeral Services for Mr. Jimmy Newton will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Fry officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the McHorse Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, August 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Austin Terrell Brackett

Austin Terrell Brackett, age 16, departed this life Tuesday, August 19, 2014, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born April 7, 1998, in Texarkana, Texas. He was an 11th grader at Horatio High School and enjoyed playing baseball, football and hunting. Austin loved spending time with his friends and family. At an early age Austin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and he was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Chris and Terry Brackett and a brother he loved deeply, Aaron. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Jerry and Brenda Brackett and maternal grandparents, Bobby and Sandra McWhorter, all of Lockesburg; his aunt, Karla Brackett Shelton of Horatio; his uncle, Steven Brackett of Lockesburg and many cousins. Austin leaves behind a host of family and friends to mourn him. We will miss his warmth, smile and his wonderful personality but look forward to the day when we will join him in Heaven.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Kerwin Pruitt and Larry Fry officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pauline Leah Brummett Gregory

Mrs. Pauline Leah Brummett Gregory, age 90, a resident of Foreman, Arkansas, died Monday, August 18, 2014, at her home.

She was born October 15, 1923 in Stevens, Arkansas. She was retired from Foreman School District and a member of First Baptist Church in Foreman. Mrs. Gregory loved baking, canning and the Little River County Fair.

Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Carrie Smelser Brummett; her husband, Roy Gregory, Sr.; two sons, Walter “Walt” Gregory and Ronnie Gregory, Sr.; two grandchildren, Ronnie Gregory, Jr. and William Gregory; one great-grandchild, Nathan Florez; four sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Gregory, Jr. and Christine of Foreman and Ricky Gregory and Sandra of Colorado; one daughter, Shirley Posey of Tom, Oklahoma; one sister, Ernestine Golden of Foreman; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Gregory will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2014 in the Foreman First Baptist Church with Trent Liggin officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravelly Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21st at the Foreman First Baptist Church. There will be a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Judy Ann Wall Hicks

Judy Ann Wall Hicks, age 63, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Saturday, August 16, 2014 in Idabel, Oklahoma.

She was born March 11, 1951 in De Queen. She was a former employee of Baker’s Sales and Service, and was a Baptist. She served on the De Queen School Board and the De Queen Softball Program, enjoyed reading, camping and attending bluegrass festivals, but most of all her grandchildren.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Therold Miller and Vivian Milam Wall.

She is survived by her husband, Junior Hicks of De Queen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Duke Alspaw and Christy and Cody George, all of De Queen; one step son, Kelly Hicks of Roseburg, Oregon; a brother, Tommy Wall of De Queen; a sister, Jan Gann of Texarkana, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Aiden and Ava Alspaw, Paisley George, and Charley Reese George; her honorary grandchildren, Courtney, Drake, Brian and Kyler; and her aunts and uncles, Pud and Sterling Daniel of De Queen, Kenneth and Donna Milam of Gainesville, Florida, and Margaret Wall of Lockesburg, Arkansas.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Hicks will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Donnie Jewell officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 at the funeral home.

Robert “Robby” Gordon Wray, Jr

Mr. Robert “Robby” Gordon Wray, Jr., age 61, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at his home.

He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 4, 1952, to Robert Gordon Wray Sr. and Jeanette Allene Wray. He has resided in De Queen since his family moved here in the summer of 1958. He graduated from De Queen High School in May of 1971. After graduation Mr. Wray went to work in the D&E Railroad Car Repair Shop.

During his 25 years at the railroad shop, he was always collecting donations for various causes and organizations, like Toys for Tots, and for the Senior Citizens Appreciation Day, for which he and his fellow Union workers received a plaque for their donations and support in May 1991.

Mr. Wray retired from the D&E Railroad Shop in 1996. He was a Baptist and was blessed with many friends during his life, with his best blessing of all, of allowing Jesus Christ into his life. He enjoyed hunting, rodeo, and raising cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Wray is survived by one brother, Jack Wray of De Queen; one sister, Janet Wray Davis of Ashdown, Arkansas; one nephew and several cousins.

Cremation arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home. At Mr. Wray’s request his ashes will be buried between his parent’s graves at Mt. Ida Cemetery. No services are scheduled.

Fred O. Barrick

Fred O. Barrick, 88 , of Mt. Herman, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Paris, Texas.

He was born January 18, 1926 in , Mt Herman, Oklahoma, the son of Alex Martin Barrick and Mammie Marie Dyer Barrick. Fred had lived in Mt. Herman most of his life. He enjoyed gardening, raising his cattle and working in the hay fields. Fred was a story teller and liked sharing stories about his early life and his life before the telephone and horse and wagon days. He loved his family and his extended family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed sharing many special times with them.

Fred was preceded in death by, his parents, Alex and Mammie Barrick; his wife and the mother of his children, Vadis Marie Campbell and second wife, Laura Mae Baker Barrick; great great grandson, Leighton Foster; brothers, Harmon, Earl, Wesley, H.R. and Martin Ray; sisters, Pansy, Gracie, Ida, Florence, Virgie, Odessa, Louise, Alice and Annie May. He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Gary Barrick of Fieldbrook, California and Terry Barrick and wife Genise of Mt. Herman; daughters, Gloria J. Foster and husband Dennis of Bethel, Oklahoma and Barbara Gazeley of Clinton, Oklahoma; step daughters, Vicky, Louise, Joy, Paula and Lydell and brother, Orvel Barrick of Joaquin, Texas.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma with the Bro. Rodney Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel, Cemetery in Bethel, Oklahoma.

Mr. Chris David Higgins

Mr. Chris David Higgins, age 44, a resident of Western Grove, Arkansas, died Monday, August 11th at his home.

He was born to C. W. Jr. and Linda Jo “Jodie” Rogers Higgins in De Queen, Arkansas, on February 18, 1970. He was a substance abuse counselor , and attended the Cowboy Church in Harrison, Arkansas. He enjoyed photography, camping, hiking, and laughing with his family and friends. He loved animals, especially his dogs, Gibbs and Baby.

He was preceded in death by his father, C. W. Higgins, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Jodie Higgins of Western Grove, Ark., two special adopted daughters, Sabrina and Rebecca Buchannan of Texarkana, Arkansas, and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Chris Higgins will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 14th in the Mineral Cemetery, Gillham, Arkansas, with Bro. Charles Ligon officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
