Mr. Kelvis G. “Ted” Marshall
Mr. Kelvis G. “Ted” Marshall, age 84, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at his home.
He was third of five children born to Walter L. and Nellie Meeks Marshall, on January 13, 1930 in New Hope, Arkansas. Ted served in the military with the U. S. Army, and was retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, casinos, and spending time with his family. He loved animals, especially his dog, Scooter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Dick, Lavon, Dean, and Joe Marshall.
He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Ruthie Chandler Marshall of De Queen, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Glen and Sharla Marshall of Kennewick, Washington, and Jerry Marshall of De Queen, two daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and John McDonnell and Carla and Farryl Barnes all of De Queen, six grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Suprina Marshall, Lane Marshall, Clayton McDonnell, and Candice, Kelsey McDonnell, Jayme Barnes, and Sydney and her husband, Will Bailey, four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Brayden, Jadi, and Lynnlee, two sisters-in-law, Judy Marshall of Roanoke, Virginia, and Edna “Tootie” Marshall of Washburn, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Ted Marshall will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 13th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Shane Haarmeyer, Bro. Homer Frachiseur, and Bro. Larry Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Saturday, April 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Mr. Glenn Bruce Cockrum
Mr. Glenn Bruce Cockrum, age 63, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 in the De Queen Medical Center, De Queen.
He was born to Albert Cecil and Myrtle Martha Trimble Cockrum in Tacoma, Washington, onJuly 13, 1950. He was a retired employee of Brookewood Nursing and Rehab. He enjoyed listening to country music, and working in the yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Jim, Burl, and June Cockrum.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Martin Pond Cockrum of De Queen, two daughters, Melissa Stanley and Marcy Covington both of Cove, Ark., three sons, Scott Cockrum and Randy Cockrum both of Fort Smith, Ark., and Marty Cockrum of Cove, a step-son , James (Chavon) Pond of De Queen, three step-daughters, Cynthia (Danny)Gregory of Searcy, Ark., Melissa (Jacob) Atwood of Horatio, and Charlene (Larry) Short of Mena, Ark., one brother, Dale Cochran of Oregon, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Glenn Cockrum will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 14th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Chandler Funeral Home.
Toby W. Youngblood
Toby W. Youngblood, of Bentonville died Tuesday, April 08, 2014 at his home due to diabetes complications. He was born September 10, 1977 in Mena, Arkansas the son of Cathy and W.T. Youngblood.
God drew Toby to Himself in saving faith in early 2009, and as a result, Toby lived his 5 years of marriage to Amanda in honor and service to his Savior. He sought to understand God’s glory and sovereignty in every circumstance, and desired to know more of Christ and God’s Word than anything. He found joy in serving humbly, loved his Legacy Baptist Church Bentonville family dearly, and enjoyed calling those Hogs! Toby lived in the Northwest Arkansas area since 1995 after moving from Mena, and had wanted to stay in NWA for many years to come to raise his family.
Toby is survived by his wife Amanda Robbins Youngblood, of Bentonville, whom he married May 17, 2009; three sons Chaddon Youngblood, Xander Youngblood, Maximus Youngblood, all of Bentonville; one daughter, Mercy Morgan, of Bentonville; his parents, Cathy and W.T. Youngblood, of Mena; one brother, Rusty Youngblood and his wife Nancy, of Wickes, Arkansas; Rusty’s three children Stacia and her husband Jason Cranford, of Horatio, Kassi and her husband Rodey Strother, of Mena; Courtney Youngblood, of Wickes; and his sister-in-law, Caitlin Griffin and her husband Daine of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 until service time at Faith Journey Fellowship in Bentonville.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Journey Fellowship in Bentonville. A local memorial service will be held Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church in Mena with Reverend James Spradlin officiating.
Local services are under entrusted to the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Mac Robbins, Jake Robbins, Casey Robbins, Daine Griffin, Jason Cranford, and Rodey Strother.
Memorials may be made to the following financial institutions for Toby’s children for their College fund. Union Bank of Mena, Chambers Bank and First National Bank of Mena.
Gladys May Barnes
Gladys May Barnes, age 99, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Gillham, Arkansas, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Mission Manor Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. Gladys was born on May 8, 1914 in De Queen, Arkansas to the late Barney and Iva Etheridge Bishop. After high school, she married Arthur Lee Kesterson with whom she had two children. He preceded her in death. Gladys spent most of her life in Gillham where she was an active member of the Methodist church. She moved to Mount Vernon, Texas in 2007 where spent her final years with her son and daughter-in-law.
Gladys will be remembered for her unending love for her family. Many of her best memories were spent shopping the flea markets or trade shows with her daughter or laughing around the dinner table with her son and grandchildren.
Gladys is survived by one son, Lee “Coy” Kesterson, and wife Becky, of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Travis Kesterson, Carmen Owens, Flint Kesterson, Kim Cummings, and husband Eric, and Chris Keasler and wife Martha; 8 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Doyle Bishop and wife Bonnie; two sisters, Helen Sokulski and Irene Leininger; and by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Norma Best, and by six brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Gillham Cemetery in Gillham, Arkansas with Lester Overturf officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Mrs. Mary Louise Grimmett
Mrs. Mary Louise Grimmett, age 68, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at her home.
She was born February 20, 1946 in Duluth, Minnesota. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church here she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and her family especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Grimmett was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Ruth Oglivie De Marce and one daughter, Angela Grimmett.
She is survived by her husband, Sherman Grimmett; one son, David Grimmett; one daughter Lisa Gates; one sister, Barbara De Marce and two grandchildren, Jonathon and Keila all of De Queen.
Funeral Mass for Mrs. Grimmett will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 in the St. Barbara Catholic Church with Father Edward D’Almeida officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Sharon Owens
Sharon Owens departed this world on April 7, 2014 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following a 2 ˝ year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Sharon loved her family and friends, and brought light into the lives of anyone that she encountered. She was a warrior in this life, overcoming breast cancer and other obstacles that were placed in her path with amazing strength that can only come from an unfaltering faith in God.
Sharon was a member of the State Line Baptist Church since she was eleven years old. She loved gardening and watching things grow. She loved her home and most of all her husband, Jerry Owens. Sharon and Jerry were married for 49 years and made their home in Diana, Texas.
Sharon worked at First National Bank in Longview for many years and left there to become self-employed. She was a hard worker and she was always willing to help others with one of the most warm and giving hearts that have ever existed.
Sharon leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Jerry Owens of Diana, Texas; her mother Bessie Mitchell of Winthrop, Arkansas; her brothers, James Earl Mitchell of Broken Bow, Oklahoma and Randy Mitchell of Winthrop, Arkansas; her sisters, Glenda Tinkes of Ben Lomond, Arkansas, Helen Milam of De Queen, Arkansas, Kirma Kohler of Ukiah, California and Arlene Jones of De Queen, along with an overwhelming multitude of friends and family who will treasure every moment that she shined her light on their lives.
Sharon loved life, she had a way of making everything fun and light even in the heaviest of situations, she would want us to celebrate the blessing of her life and having known her.
Sharon’s services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the State Line Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo, Arkansas with Rev. Ray Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
Dorothy Dean Green
Dorothy Dean Green, age 79, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born November 24, 1934, in Pine Valley, Oklahoma.
She was a retired cafeteria manager for Pilgrim’s Pride in De Queen and attended the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church near Dierks.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Beulah Chappel Callahan and her husband, Kenneth Earl Green.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Green of Dierks and Tony and Colette Green of Sherwood, AR; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Charles Linville of Joshua, TX; her grandchildren, Daniel Green, Joel Green, Drew Linville, Kena Linville, and Bethany Woolverton and her husband Colby, and Michael Kennedy and three great-grandchildren, Ryland Linville, Audrey Kennedy and Hannah Kennedy.
Funeral services for Mrs. Green will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, in the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church near Dierks with J.W. Gilbert and Robert Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow, OK under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 10th at the funeral home in Dierks.
