Janola Bennett
Mrs. Janola Faye "Pat" Bennett, age 79, a resident of Houston, Texas died Sunday, March 16, 2003 in Houston.
She was born on December 14, 1923 in Roff, Oklahoma to Jahrome and Sallie Jones. She was the former owner of Advance Printing and Letter Service in Houston.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Jo Ann and Edward Crow of Houston, Texas and Betty Lou and Curtis Latiolais of Prairieville, Louisiana; three sisters: Lena Bell Adcock of De Queen, Mary Louise Ruth of Lockesburg and Iva Lee Bullard of Post, Texas; three grandsons, one granddaughter, and six great-granddaughters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2003 in the Geneva Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Neal officiating. Burial followed in the Belleville cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2003 at the funeral home.
Kathy R. "Becky" Sharp
Kathy R. "Becky" Sharp, age 40, of Longview, Tex. died on Friday, March 14, 2003 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Pastors Ron Elkins and Charles Groce of-ficiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Park.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the funeral home.
She was born on August 1, 1962 in Snyder, Texas to Mike and Kathy Welsh; was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was predeceased by her son, Donavan Gerald Sharp, and grandmother, Nina Duncan.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Sharp; one daughter, Jennifer Laurens; one son, Jeffrey Laurens, all of Long-view; three grandsons, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Rev. Hercel Faulkner
Rev. Hercel Faulkner, age 89, resident of Dierks, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 in the Nashville Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22 in Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks with Rev. Larry Albritton and Rev. Bill Driggers officiating. Burial followed in McHorse cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of Dierks.
He was born on Monday, Oct. 13, 1913 in Provo to Luther and Rosie Power Faulkner; was retired from Weyerhaeuser; a retired minister; and a member of Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Leona Young Faulkner; and two brothers, Addie Faulkner and George Faulkner.
He is survived by one son, Jimmy Ray Faulkner of Dierks; one daughter, Mary Ann Faulkner Gibson of Bossier City, La.; two sisters, Eunice Compton and Flora Faye Faulkner, both of Nashville; two grandchildren; and one step-grandson.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21 at the funeral home in Dierks.
Frances Louise Goode
Mrs. Frances Louise Smalley Goode, age 82, resident of Benton, La., and formerly of De Queen, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 in the Guest House Nursing Home in Bossier City, La.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 in Avon cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
She was born June 18, 1920 in Leonard, Tex., to Ace Clinton and Alice Ray Smalley; was a home-maker; and a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Oliver Smalley; a twin son, Bobby Goode; and her husband, Ray Goode.
She is survived by two sons, Joe Goode of Dalzel, SC, and Jimmy Goode of Cabot; two daughters, Betty Bales of Ben-ton, La., and Sherry Goode of Texarkana, Tex.; one brother, A.C. Smalley of Manteca, Calif.; two sisters, Thelma Ruth Rich-ardson of De Queen and Ray Doucette of Roseville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24 at the funeral home.
Rubert "Shorty" Tollett
Rubert Carl "Shorty" Tollett, age 85, resident of Lockesburg, died Monday, July 21, 2003 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 in Old Union Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in Old Piney cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
He was born May 30, 1918 in Lockesburg; was a retired logger from Weyerhaeuser; and a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Ophelia Baker Tollett; his parents, Mark and Florence Harder Tollett; one son, Roy Wendell Tollett; four brothers, Grover Tollett, Lloyd Tollett, Edgar Tollett and Robert Tollett; and one sister, Katie Tollett Janes.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda "Judy" Lott and Darlene Gilbert, both of Lockesburg; two brothers, Truman Tollett of Lockesburg and Ruben Tollett of De Queen; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 at the funeral home.
Nesbia "Pop" Pate
Nesbia "Pop" Pate, age 87, of Newhope, died Thursday, June 26, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 29, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. David Morrison and Bro. Don Vaughn officiating.
Interment was in the Bissell Chapel cemetery, near Newhope, under the direc-tion of Davis-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation was Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m.
He was born on March 1, 1916, at Athens, the son of John William Pate and Sarah Ella Sanders Pate. On July 28, 1937 he was married
to Nora Faye House. He was United Pentecostal in faith and attended Bissell Chapel Church; worked in the Joselyn Steel Factory in Fort Wayne, Ind., and later retired from Wey-erhaeuser in Dierks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Betty Jean Kelsay and an infant daughter; one brother: Rector Pate; five sisters: Bertie Tollett, Clara Aylor, Alvia Davis, Dorothy Jester, and Syble Pate; and one granddaugh-ter: Faith Angelee Pate.
"Pop" is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nora Faye House Pate of Newhope; two daughters: Joyce White of Newhope and Glenda Magar of Mena; seven sons: J. W. Pate of Flatwoods, Ky., Elmer Pate of Bluffton, Ind.; Ronnie Pate of Newhope, Von Pate of Pearcy, Darryl Pate of Lexington, Ky., Royce Pate of Athens, and Boyce Pate of Newhope; 23 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Red Bishop, Bill Cox and David Bryant.
Pellie Turner
Mr. Pellie Leon Turner, age 92, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 12, 1911 in Horatio. He served as a deacon for 32 years in the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen, was employed by Weyerhaeuser for 26 years and a Mason.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents: Charles E. and Eula Ross Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Paralee Hankins Turner of 71 years; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Howard T. and Lila Turner of Lafayette, Louisiana, Charles and Peggy Turner of De Queen and Gordon E. Turner of De Queen; two grandsons: David Turner and wife, Starla, and Matthew Turner; one granddaughter: Valerie Anne LeBas and her husband, Paul; one great-granddaughter: Lindsey Anne LeBas; three great-grandsons: Jeani-Paul LeBas, Michael Gage and Jared Gage; and one sister: Charlene Chenoweth.
Funeral services for Mr. Turner were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Hankins and Rev. Faron Rogers officiating. Burial followed in the Valley cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 7 at the funeral home.
Gus Bumphus
Gus Bumphus, age 84, resident of Horatio, died Friday, July 18, 2003 in the VA Hospital at Little Rock.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26 in Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Horatio with Rev. Curtis Smith officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Acres cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1919 in the West Otis community near Horatio; was a sawmill worker; a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church; and a U.S. Army veteran. He was predeceased by his parents, Seabron and Arah Bezell Bumphus.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Robert Eugene Minor
Robert “Bob” Eugene Minor, age 78, resident of Grannis, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at his home.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 in Millwee cemetery at Horatio with Rev. Mike Wilson officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born Feb. 20, 1925 at Fordyce to Ben and Stella Minor; was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a retired Postmaster for the Grannis Post Office with 20 years service; and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Williams Minor of Grannis; two sons, Robert Minor Jr. of Grannis and Cragar Minor of Fayetteville; one daughter, Michael Ann “Missy” Tabler of Fayetteville; four stepsons, Ronald Sharp, Joe Sharp Jr., and Robert Sharp, all of Grannis, and James Sharp of Hot Springs; two stepdaughters, Jo Ann Waddle of Deer Park, Tex., and Renee Newberry of Pasadena, Tex.; one brothers, Ben Minor of Luling, La.; two sisters, Geneva Thompson of El Dorado and Pat Dennis of Magnolia; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
