Mrs. Olive Pearce Dunn, age 82, resident of the Chapel Hill Community in De Queen, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 in Christus St. Michael Healthcare System in Texarkana.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Chapel Hill cemetery.
She was born Jan. 7, 1921 in Olive, Okla., to Simon and Mary Williams Pearce; was a member of the Eastern Star; and a Baptist. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Aaron Pearce, Monk Pearce and Paul Pearce; and a son, Alan Dunn.

David Kim McNeal
David Kim McNeal, age 46, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at his home.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5 in Horatio cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
He was born June 23, 1956 in De Queen to Pat and Betty Thomas McNeal; and was a member of Piney Road Gospel Church. He was predeceased by one sister, Doris Neugebauer; and two brothers, Terry McNeal and Michael Patrick McNeal.
He is survived by two sons, Anthony McNeal and Adam McNeal, both of Horatio; one daughter, Tiffany McNeal of Missouri; and his parents.
Pauline L. Black
Mrs. Pauline L. Smith Moore Vickers Black, age 81, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 in Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center in Texarkana.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Burial followed in Chapel Hill cemetery.
She was born Aug. 18, 1921 in Eagletown, Okla., to John and Lorissa Seay Smith; was a homemaker; a retired USDA grader; and a Baptist. She was predeceased by her husbands, Pervin B. Moore and Leo Vickers; four brothers, Obria Smith, Oron Smith, Ed Smith and Marion Smith; one sister, Elmira Smith; and one granddaughter, Lorissa Vickers.
She is survived by her husband, Overton Black of Horatio; three sons, Kenneth Moore, Tommy Moore and Larry Vickers, all of De Queen; one daughter, Linda Gentry of De Queen; one brother, Henry Smith of De Queen; one sister, Jerry Ann Morris of De Queen; her stepmother, Effie Smith of De Queen; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mary Ellen Ferry
Mrs. Mary Ellen Ferry, 79, an angel for the Lord, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at her home in De Queen.
She was born on October 31, 1923 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Suel and Bonnie Brown McClung. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ferry is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dexter M. Ferry, Sr. of De Queen; two daughters: Laura Scott and husband, Bob, of De Queen and Henrietta Provost of Wasilla, Alaska; one son: Dexter M. Ferry II of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister: Jean Ellis of Lake Jackson, Texas; one brother: Elton McClung of Foreman, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Cremation was under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Billy Roy Springer
Billy Roy Springer, age 76, resident of Abernathy, Tex., died Saturday, March 29, 2002 in Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 31 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 in Abernathy cemetery at Abernathy, Tex.
He was born Sept. 24, 1926 in Haskell, Tex., to John B. Springer and Rebecca Hastey Springer; was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a retired truck driver; a Baptist; and a member of the American Legion and VFW He was predeceased by his wife, Carrie Daughtery Springer.
He is survived by two sons, Keith Springer of Foreman and Leslie Springer of Abernathy, Tex.; three sisters, Theada Barton of Cove, Maurine Martin of Mena, and Mary Jo Martin of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
John Robert Benge
John Robert Benge left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2003, at his home in North Richland Hills, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his brother Michael.
He is survived by his mother: Shirley Benge of North Richland Hills; one son: Shane Benge of Muskogee, Okla.; two daughters: Amii of Sherman, Texas and Jennifer of Lewisburg, Tenn.; two grandchildren: Landon and Emma; one brother: Mark Benge of Muldrow, Okla.; and numerous friends, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
John had an abundance of people who loved him and shared much joy with him throughout his 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time hunting and fishing.
Burial and graveside services were held at Redmen cemetery in De Queen on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at 10:00 a.m., under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Michael Alan Leathers
Michael Alan Leathers, age 48, resident of Broken Bow, Okla., died Monday, March 24, 2003 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27 in First Baptist Church at Wright City, Okla. with Bro. Neil Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Slater Memorial cemetery at Wright City under the direction of Brumley-McCurtain Funeral Home of Broken Bow.
He was born July 14, 1954 in Lebanon, Ore., to Clifford Wayne Leathers Sr. and Mary Lou Belle Rowan; was a truck supervisor for Tyson Foods in Grannis; and was a Baptist. He was predeceased by his father, Clifford Leathers Sr.; his mother, Mary Lou Belle Rowan; and two brothers, Clifford Leathers Jr. and Ricky Leathers.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Driver Leathers of Broken Bow, Okla.; two sons, Michael Leathers and Robert Leathers, both of Broken Bow, Okla.; one daughter, Suzie Whitehead of Broken Bow, Okla.; four brothers, Charles Leathers of Mt. Pleasant, Tex., Randy Rowan of Watson, Okla., Ronnie Rowan of Broken Bow, Okla., and Chris Leathers of Antlers, Okla.; five sisters, Judy Prewitt and Priscilla Rowan, both of Broken Bow, Okla.; Vicki Leathers, Toni Leathers and Stephany Leathers, all of Antlers, Okla.; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 at the funeral home.
Curtis Chandler Sr.
Curtis Chandler Sr., age 93, resident of Sentinel, Okla., died Sunday, March 23, 2003 in Elkview General Hospital at Hobart, Okla.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25 in the Assembly of God Church in Sentinel. Interment followed in Sentinel cemetery under the direction of McClure Funeral Home of Sentinel.
He was born Sept. 25, 1909 in Sevier County to William David and Rebecca Green Chandler; was a farmer and did cement work. He was predeceased by his wife, Bonnie Taylor on June 17, 1985; his parents; one son, J.D.; three brothers; two sisters; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
He is survived by three daughters, Lorene Dlugonski and Yvonne Carpenter, both of Sentinel, Okla., and Bonnie Sue Powell of Stigler, Okla.; four sons, James Chandler of Horatio, Dub Chandler of Elk City, Okla., Curtis Chandler Jr. and Jimmy Dale Chandler, both of Sentinel, Okla.; two brothers, Rufus Chandler of Sentinel, Okla., and W.D. Chandler of Poteau, Okla.; one sister, Martha Howell of Sentinel, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grand-children.
Verna Mae Smith
Mrs. Verna Mae Cannon Smith, age 82, resident of Cedar Hill, Tex., and formerly of Texarkana and De Queen, died Saturday, March 23, 2003 at her home.
A memorial service were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27 in First Baptist Church of Lockesburg with Rev. Johnny Ross officiating. Interment followed in Redmen cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
She was born June 2, 1920 in De Queen to Jim Henry and Minnie Parkerson Cannon; was retired from Red River Army Depot; and was a member of the Methodist Church. She was predeceased by two brothers, Willie Gene Cannon and Charles Edward Cannon; and two sisters, Berta Louise Allen and Virginia Cannon.
She is survived by one son, Terry Smith of Eugene, Ore.; one daughter, Rita Dickerson of Sanger, Tex.; one sister, Majel House of De Queen; two brothers, James Cannon of Lockesburg and Sidney E. Cannon of De Queen; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews.
