James E. Teague
Mr. James E. Teauge, a resident of Enterprise, Alabama and formerly of Arkansas died Sunday, January 25, 2004 in Enterprise. He was 85.
Graveside funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2004 from the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Wake Village, Texas with Patterson-Sorrels Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Teague was a native of Texas, having lived in Arkansas for a number of years before moving to Enterprise, Alabama. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Ruth Teague, and a son, James E. Teague, Jr.
Survivors include three sisters, Polly Westbrook, Modesto, California, Francis Tobias, Kapowsin, Washington, Katie Marie Griffis, Celeste, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Judy J. Teague, Enterprise, Alabama; a granddaughter, Ruth L. Pawlik (Scott), Enterprise, Alabama; a grandson, James E. Teague III, Melbourne, Florida; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brandi Pawlik, Enterprise, Alabama; a special friend, Sharon Ross, De Queen, Arkansas; and nieces and nephews.
Alice Johnson
Mrs. Alice Leeper Johnson, age 87, resident of New Boston, Tex., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 in Christus St. Michael Hospital at Texarkana.
She was born on February 26, 1916 in the Walnut Springs Community to Joseph Martin and Mary Ann Jones Leeper; was a retired schoolteacher, having taught schools in Arkansas and Texas for 37 years; and was a member of Tapp Memorial Methodist Church in New Boston, Tex. She was predeceased by her husband, Shelby Johnson.
She is survived by a brother, Walter Leeper of De Queen; two sisters, Sue Reed of New Boston, Tex., and Ruth Sportsman of Texarkana; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. Bill Fish officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
Memorials may be made to Tapp Memorial Methodist Church in New Boston, Tex.
Rev. Harold Wall
Rev. Harold Fred Wall, age 81, a resident of Horatio, Ark., died Saturday, January 17, 2004 at his home.
He was born Friday, July 14, 1922 in Horatio, Arkansas to Fred Miller and Laura Mellos Gore Wall. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard, a carpenter and retired minister of the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Harold Wall in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Avis Sackett Wall; one daughter and son-in-law, Charla and David Conatser; one grandson, Nick Conatser; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kate and Jerry Don Tabler, all of Horatio, Ark.; one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Frances Wall of McGehee, Ark.; three sisters-in-law, Vivian Wall of De Queen, Ark., Margaret Wall of Lockesburg, Ark., and Claryce Wall of Cerro Gordo, Okla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rev. Wall were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. L. Walker and John Hickle officiating. Burial followed in the Millwee cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were the elders of the church.
Cleo Munn
Cleo Munn, age 85, resident of Hope, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Hays Munn; her parents, Edith and Ware Garrett; and a sister, Jewell Cobb.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Whitley of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Bob Garrett and Jim Garrett; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Herndon Funeral Home. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 at the funeral home.
Paul L. “Sonny” Burke
Paul L. “Sonny” Burke, age 71, resident of Eagletown, Okla., died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 31, 1932 in Overturf to the late James Paul and Dona Viola Herring Burke; and was a cattle rancher. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Gary Burke; and two sisters, Billie Lloyd and Floy Kennon.
He is survived by a son, Cody Burke of Texarkana, Tex.; three daughters, Gerri Armstrong of Hot Springs, Sonja Burke and Carla Jean Smith; five sisters, Pauline Jones and Nelda Richardson, both of Grannis, Jo Milam of Mena, Patsy Hagler of Berryville, and June Mitchell of Texarkana, Tex.; one grandson, one great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19 in Overturf cemetery in Gillham under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Jason Alexis Nunez
Jason Alexis Nunez, age 2, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 24, 2001 in De Queen to Epigmenio and Margarita Arriaga Nunez; and was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in De Queen.
He is survived by his parents; his paternal grandparents, Julita Garcia and Ignacio Nunez; and his maternal grandparents, Timotea Nunez and Juvenal Arriaga.
Funeral services will be held in Mexico, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
Bernard M. Cowden
Bernard Montgomery Cowden, age 76, resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 at his home.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 in First Baptist Church of De Queen, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1927 in Horatio to Clifton and Addie Mae Cowden; was in the wholesale and retail gasoline business in De Queen for 30 years; a member of First Baptist Church; and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Davis Cowden; three children, Ronald Montgomery Cowden, Pamela Kay Bigham and Scott Davis Cowden; two sisters, Earlene Donaldson and Maxine Martin; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

John Heath
John “Hoppy” Heath, age 58, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 in the Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Board Camp cemetery, near Mena, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born to Robert and Belle Lewis Heath at Hartford, Ark., on December 17, 1944. He was an employee of the Sevier County Farmers Coop, working since 1979. He attended the Grace Baptist Church of De Queen.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Heath in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Aline Peek Heath of De Queen; one daughter, Melissa Cassady of Springdale; six brothers, Bill Heath of Kansas City, Mo., George Arron Heath of Seminole, Dean Heath, Delton Heath, and Jody Dink Heath all of Mena, and B. J. Heath of Bearden; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Granville David Jones
Granville David Jones, age 79, resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill cemetery.
He was born Sept. 18, 1924 in Iola, Kan., to Richard A. and Viola Hurless Jones; was a retired truck driver; and a Baptist. He was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Miller Jones of De Queen; one son, Charles Jones of Covington, La.; one daughter, Marsha Sanders of De Queen; two sisters, Margie Knight of Hatton and Eva Wooten of Wickes; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Don Worley
Don Worley, age 65, resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 in a Texarkana hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 in Unity cemetery under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.
He was born March 12, 1938 to Robert Clayburn and Opal Ruth Cushenberry Worley; was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church; and retired from Georgia Pacific. He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Beene in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Zachary Worley of Lockesburg; one daughter, Babbie Bevill of Mineral Springs; two sons, Gary Worley and Jack Worley, both of Mineral Springs; two brothers, Bobby Worley and Jim Worley, both of De Queen; four sisters, Helen Lavely and Doris Schuiler, both of Copperas Cove, Tex., Pat Dyea of Albuquerque, NM, and Sharron Effird of Dierks; and five grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at the funeral home.
