Janet L. Roberts

Janet L. Higgins Roberts, age 41, resident of Lockesburg, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at her home.

She was born March 8, 1963 in De Queen to Freeman and Alice Henson Higgins; was a homemaker; and a Southern Baptist. She was preceded in death by one son, Jason.

She is survived by her husband, Norman D. Roberts of Lockesburg; two step-daughters, Mandy and Jennifer Roberts; and a brother, Jimmy Ray Hawley.

Private graveside services have been scheduled, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Avis Graves

Mrs. Henrietta Avis Latimer Graves, age 92, a resident of Lockesburg, Ark., died Monday, August 9, 2004 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 10, 1912 in Lockesburg to James Willie and Bettie Pickens Latimer. She worked for Baldwin Piano Company and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Graves on December 11, 1985; a brother, Ed Latimer; and a sister, Doris Carver.

She is survived by two sons, Benny A. Graves and Jim F. Graves, both of Lockesburg; two daughters, Betty Williams of Lockesburg and Mary Ann Mayo of Petrolia, Texas; three sisters, Grace Bell of Hot Springs, Ark., Elizabeth Bartee of Bellingham, Wash., and Willie Jim Millwee of De Queen, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Graves were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004 in the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg with Rev. Jerrel Helms and Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating. Burial followed in the Belleville cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, at the funeral home.

Otis James Powell III

Otis James Powell III (Trey), age 10, resident of Lockesburg, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 in De Queen.

He was born Oct. 4, 1993 to Otis and Florene Geiger Powell Jr.; was a member of New Zion Baptist Church at Lockesburg; and attended Lockesburg School. He was preceded in death by his father, Otis James Powell Jr. on June 11, 2004; and his grandmother, Patrice Powell in 1985.

He is survived by his mother, Florene Geiger Powell of Lockesburg; one brother, Matthew Geiger Powell of Lockesburg; one sister, Latasha Keaster of Tyler, Tex.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clenon Geiger of Lockesburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Otis James Powell Sr. of De Queen.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Lockesburg School Gym with Rev. Randy Briggs officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Hill cemetery at De Queen under the direction of Hick’s Funeral Home of Hope.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wanda Peek

Mrs. Wanda Marie Willis Peek, age 74, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 in the Christus St. Michael Health System.

She was born to Emmitt and Effous Wolf Willis at Ultamathule, Okla. on August 9, 1930. She was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen. She was former owner of a dress shop, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed antiques, collectibles, paintings, and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Thelma Colson, Audie Dunn and Bonnie LeForce; one brother, Roy Willis; and her husband, Don Peek, Sr.

She is survived by one son, Don and Kim Peek, Jr. of De Queen; two daughters, Cathryn and David Wacasey of De Queen and Cyndy and Joe Don Bassham of Diana, Tex.; one brother, Joe Willis of De Queen; three sisters, Polly Ray of Horatio, Ark., Dixie Cavender of Eagletown, Okla., and Hope Gore of De Queen; five grandchildren, Sundee Rossi, Garrett Stanley, Donnie Bassham, Philip Peek, and Paden Peek; two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Rossie and Jett Rossie; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wanda Peek were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 17, 2004 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Faron Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery, De Queen.

The family received friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2004.

Herschel Reinsch Maxwell

Herschel Reinsch Maxwell, age 82, resident of El Dorado Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.

He was born March 3, 1922 in Belton, Mo.; was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in Okinawa and Japan; retired from International Paper Company; and was a cattleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel R. and Bertha Maxwell.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Marie Murrell Maxwell; three daughters, Betty Ann Stone of De Queen, Amy Sue Foreman of Jay, Okla., and Treva Jane Foster of Plainfield, Ind.; one sister, Mildred Goodman of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17 in Hackleman Chapel with Terry Foster officiating. Interment followed in Belton cemetery.

Billy Glen "Bill" Henderson

Billy Glen "Bill" Henderson, age 71, of Hot Springs, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2004, at St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center.

Mr. Henderson was born March 4, 1933, in the Oma community in Garland County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Henderson and Zelma Louton Henderson, and one brother, Bobby Joe Henderson of Pearcy, Arkansas.

Mr. Henderson owned "Henderson Sign Shop" and had a kind, artistic soul. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, the Razorbacks and drinking coffee with his friends. He was a member of the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Coulter Henderson of Hot Springs; two daughters, Denise Henderson of Chicago, Illinois, and Ann Henderson Gilbert and her husband Jim of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Bob Biles of Hot Springs; many nieces and nephews whom he loved, a host of friends and one special niece, Kelli Henderson Hall, who helped care for him during his illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2004, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs, with Rev. Teddy Hill officiating.

Interment was in the Oma cemetery, Pearcy, Arkansas.

Pallbearers were Tommy Barrett, Bill Blackwell, Buddy Black, Irv Troyer, Joel Henderson, Brett Henderson and Greg Hale.

Honorary pallbearers were Myra and Wayne Clay, Cindy and Larry Hale, Carolyn Kueteman, Ann Coulter, Ruby Henderson Meeks, Rachel and John Heffernan, Boyd Heath, Harold Tankersley, Robert Borland, his coffee drinking buddies, the Virginia Clinton Kelley Democratic Women's Club and Dr. Robert Muldoon and staff.

Visitation was held Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Pearl Coulter Memorial Scholarship in care of The Bank of Lockesburg, Lockesburg, Arkansas 71846, or the Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches, P. O. Box 3964, Batesville, Arkansas 72503.

The family was at 241 Curbstone Road in Hot Springs. After the burial, the family gathered at 3441 Pearcy Road in Pearcy.

Lorene Ashford

Lorene McConnell Ashford, age 87, resident of Dierks, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004 in Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville.

She was born Nov. 19, 1916 in Ringling, Okla.; was a homemaker; and a member of Dierks Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ashford in 1996; and her parents, Oscar and Mary Lankford McConnell.

She is survived by three sons, John Ashford of Nashville, Joe Ashford of Dierks, and James Ashford of Broken Bow, Okla.; one sister, Minnie Sandbeck of Natchez, Miss.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23 in Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae and Lowell Lites, ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in Hochatown cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Molly Ann Greer

Mrs. Molly Ann Brewer Greer, age 54, resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 in Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

She was born Dec. 13, 1949 at De Queen to O. Lee and Bessie F. Carpenter Brewer; was an assistant principal at Lake St. George Elementary School in Pinellas County, Fla.; president of Phi Delta Kappa; and a member of Northwest Tampa Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Donald Lee Greer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one son, Daniel Lee Greer of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Rosalie Maher of Ocala, Fla., and Carmen A. Kelly of Crawfordville, Fla.; her parents, O. L. and Bessie F. Brewer of De Queen; one brother, Denny Brewer of Conway; and four grandsons.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25 in Valley cemetery at Gillham with Van Ledbetter and Paul Hillier, ministers, officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, First State Bank, P.O. Box 970, De Queen.
