Paulino Gomez

Paulino Gomez, age 39, of Wickes, died Monday, May 5, 2003 at his home.

He will be sent to Mexico for interment. Local arrangements are under the direction of Hall Funeral Service.

He was born June 22, 1963 in Totoltepec, Mexico, to the late Paulino Gomez Sr. and Felicitas Salgado Gomez. He was married to Margarita Antunez May 24, 1981.

He lived in the Wickes and De Queen area for eight years, moving from Mexico, worked in the poultry industry, and was a member of the Santa Barbara Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Margarita Gomez of Wickes; his mother, Felicitas Gomez of Totoltepec, Mexico; three sons, Bertin Gomez, Nestor Gomez, and Salustio Gomez, all of Wickes; three daughters, Eliazar Gomez, Lidia Gomez and Josefina Gomez, all of Wickes; two brothers, four sister, and one granddaughter.

Frank Evans

Francis Clement "Frank" Evans, age 57, resident of Gillham, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Gillham.

A memorial service is pending and will be announced later by Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.

He was born Aug. 8, 1945 at Vallejo, Calif., to Clement and June Annabelle Wetmore Evans; was a Vietnam veteran having served in the U.S. Navy; and a tow truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary Smith Evans of Gillham; one son, Rebel Evans of California; two daughters, Collette Evans and Frankie Evans, both of California; and two stepsons, Barry Hill of California and Michael Hill of Indiana.

Raymond Steward Walters

Raymond Steward Walters, age 76, resident of Horatio, died Monday, May 5, 2003 in Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center at Texarkana.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born Oct. 21, 1926 in Hutchinson, Kan., to Charles R. and Vernie Moyer Walters; was an air conditioning and heating mechanical contractor; a rancher; a U.S. Navy veteran; and a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Bertie Shumake Walters of Horatio; one daughter, Dinah Kay Walters Brosset of New Orleans, La.; three sons, Kenny D. Walters and Kerry E. Walters, both of New Orleans, La., and Kevin Ray Walters of Horatio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Alta Feemster

Mrs. Alta Feemster, age 93, resident of Lakeside, Calif., and formerly of De Queen, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 in Lakeside.

A private memorial service will be held in Chapel Hill cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.

She was born Aug. 18, 1909 in De Queen to W.A. and Lizzie McKinney Crowder; was a homemaker; and a Protestant.

She is survived by one son, John Clifford Selmon of Lakeside, Calif.; one brother, Arthur Grady Crowder of Dallas, Tex.; two sisters, Elizabeth Matthews of Murrieta, Calif., and Ruth Blacksher of Longmont, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Calvin Loyd "Dick" Smith

Calvin Loyd "Dick" Smith, 79, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed from this life and entered into his eternal home on Thursday, May 1, 2003 in Alamogordo.

He was born October 17, 1923 in Cove, Arkansas, the son of Wade and Mary Catherine (Brown) Smith. Calvin was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army Infantry. He received the World War II Victory Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, the AP Theater Ribbon with two bronze service stars and one bronze arrowhead, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two bronze stars, and a Go 23 HQ USAFFE 45 Medal.

By trade, he was a logger, from which he retired in 1989. He attended First Assembly Worship Center in Alamogordo and was also an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

He was a loving father to his children, Brenda S. Tidwell and her husband Fred of Alamogordo, Donna J. Griffith and her husband Lloyd of Columbus, Montana, Rosemary Smith of Alamogordo, and Calvin David Smith and his wife Patty of Gilbert, Arizona. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a brother, Hal M. Smith and his wife Ione of De Queen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances M. Smith, in 1963; his parents; four brothers, Garland, Bill and Jessie, and by an infant brother.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly Worship Center in Alamogordo with Paster David Crispin officiating.

A committal service was held Friday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at the Redmen cemetery in De Queen with the Rev. Oscar Ball officiating. Services were under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home in Alamogordo, and Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family was at the home of Jane Smith, 174 Union Road in De Queen.

Fay Hendrix

Mr. Fay V. Hendrix, age 73, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, May 5, 2003 in the Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.

He was born on Sunday, March 23, 1930 in Horatio to James E. and Ruthie Van Trees Hendrix. He was retired from the U.S. Army, a member of the Church of Christ and a avid bowler.

Mr. Hendrix was preceded in death by one sister: Inez Lester; and one brother: Barney Hendrix.

He is survived by one son: Van Hendrix of Smiths, Alabama; one daughter: Jodi Hendrix, U.S. Navy, San Diego, California; his wife: Jean Hendrix of Columbus, Georgia; two sisters: Iona Munn of De Queen and Ivy Dunlap of Peoria, Arizona; two brothers: Poker Hendrix and Pete Hendrix, both of De Queen and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Hendrix were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Van Ledbetter, minister, officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery, under the direction of Wilk-erson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7 at the funeral home.

Barbara Griffin

Mrs. Barbara Nell Griffin, age 59, a resident of Dierks, died Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.

She was born March 31, 1944, at Dierks. She was a hair dresser and a member of the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Jerrell Griffin, one son and daughter-in-law: Tim and Vicki Griffin of Idabel; one daughter and son-in-law: Tonja and Rodney Jacques of Nashville; her mother, Pauline Parker Icenhower of Dierks; three brothers: Mike Icenhower and Phillip Icenhower, both of Dierks, and Rex Icenhower of Nashville; one sister: Anita Gay Hendrix of Antoine; five grand-children: Charles Griffin, William Griffin, Lakan Young, Justin Jacques, and Jayla Jacques.

Funeral services for Mrs. Griffin were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2003 in the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks. Burial was at Dierks cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home. The family received friends at the funeral home in Dierks from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday.

Norma Jean Clark

Mrs. Norma Jean Clark, age 72, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at her home.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. George Frachiseur officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1931 in Brookfield, Mo., to Hazel Mallett Horton and Lon B. Horton; and retired from Pilgrim’s Pride in 1992. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Dean Clark on Sept. 25, 2001.

She is survived by two daughters, Janie Litchford and Janice Doan, both of De Queen; two sons, Larry Clark of Waco, Tex., and Roger Clark of Oklahoma; and a number of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
