Alma Jean Bates
September 15, 2009
Alma Jean Bates, 79, of Nashville, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at a Nashville hospital. She was born April 11, 1930, at Cross Roads, AR, the daughter of the late Posey and Mary Bissell Neal.
She was a member of Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Newton Bates, son, Danny Wayne Bates, granddaughter, Lisa Bates Keeney, brother, Walter Neal, two sisters, Amelia Bates and Wilma Springs.
Survivors include three sons, Marshall Bates of Nashville, AR, Larry Bates of Rosston, AR and George Bates of Gurdon, AR; three daughters, Marjorie Carpenter of Nashville, AR, Sharon Jester of McCaskill, AR and Betty Wisniewski of Nashville, AR; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 18, at Latimer Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Billy Sanders officiating, burial at Westmoreland cemetery, Cross Roads.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, September 17, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Louise Puryear
September 13, 2009
Louise Willie Puryear, age 90, of Nashville, AR, died Sunday, September 13, 2009. She was born February 05, 1919 in Nashville, AR, the daughter of the late Elmo and Etta Harwell Sillavan.
She was a Baptist and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Erron S. Puryear.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law Shirley Don and Wanda Puryear of Nashville, Bobby and Cynthia Puryear of Nashville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and relatives.
Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Ozan cemetery at Bingen. Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Monday, September 14, 2009 at Latimer Funeral Home.

Mark Jones
September 9, 2009
Mark Jones, 34, of Nashville, AR. died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in Texarkana, AR. He was born May 18, 1975 in Los Angeles, CA. the son of Cordas Belle and Mary Jones.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Dodson Street Church of Christ, and a customer service representative for the Waco Video and Cable Company.
Survivors include his wife Melissa Jones of Nashville, AR; two step-daughters Jatora and Jalisa Starr of Nashville, AR; two brothers Michael Jones of Grady, AR; and Terry Belle and wife Dondra of Little Rock, AR; one sister Debbie Belle of Long Beach, CA; five grandchildren Jakobe Jefferson Starr, Janiya Starr, Jayla, Starr, Jalaya Starr, and Jatavion Starr all of Nashville, AR. and his grandmother Dessie Anderson of Dekalb, MS.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, September 13 at the Dodson Street Church of Christ with Bro. Juerga Smith officiating, cremation services to follow, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Saturday, September 12 at Latimer Funeral Home.

Verneise McJunkins
August 27, 2009
Verneise McJunkins, age 89, of Saratoga, AR, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Mine Creek Healthcare. She was born September 21, 1919 in Nashville, AR, the daughter of the late Charles and Della Tinsley Smith.
She was a member of Saratoga Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willie McJunkins
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Mary McJunkins of Mineral Springs; one daughter Gayla Young of Saratoga; five grandchildren Homer Young, Jr., Rusty Young, Lisa Swink, Sarah Katon and Missy Duke; thirteen great-grandchildren Jody, Eva, Amy, Ashley, Laci, Russell, Dustin, Kylee, Will, Noah, Drew, Trevor and Owen; four great-great-grandchildren Hayden, Aly, Isabella and Tucker, as well as many friends and relatives.
Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Latimer Funeral Home at Nashville with burial in Saratoga cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Friday, August 28, 2009 at Latimer Funeral Home.

Clovis Abilene McLaughlin Norwood
August 27, 2009
Clovis Abilene McLaughlin Norwood, 83, of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of Christ Thursday, August 27, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana. Mrs. Norwood was born January 13, 1926, in Mineral Springs, Arkansas. “Miss Ab” was a long-time member and Sunday School Director of Central Baptist Church in Mineral Springs. After raising her four children, she graduated from Henderson State University and served for many years as an elementary teacher in the Mineral Springs and Murfreesboro schools. She was a strong, loving, and caring disciplinarian, and her children and students knew that she was their strongest supporter. Her friends and family cherished her grand sense of humor, and hearty laughter and warm hospitality were trademarks of the Norwood home. She delighted in family, who she considered to be her greatest legacy, and she lined the walls of her house and her heart with family pictures and memories. In addition to her celebration of family, Abilene’s life was enriched through the adventures and misadventures she shared with her lifelong best friend, Bernyce Bridgeman.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Paul Murry Norwood, also of Mineral Springs. She is also survived by her four children and their spouses: Paula and Terry Smith of Camden, Arkansas; Pam and Mike Arrington of Morristown, Tennessee; Phil and Kathy Norwood, of Ashdown, Arkansas; Randy and Gayle Norwood of Texarkana, Texas. Other survivors include nine grandchildren: Terry and Christy Smith of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Stephanie and Thomas Sanders of Minden, Louisiana; Ashley and Kent Ellington of Rome, Georgia; Jennifer and Rome Cross of Texarkana, Arkansas; Denise Norwood of Little Rock, Arkansas; Shannon Norwood of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Rendi and Josh Wiggins of Shreveport, Louisiana; Faith Norwood of Texarkana, Texas; Abbey Norwood of Texarkana, Texas. Great-grandchildren: Ellison Smith, Porter Smith, William Sanders, Mary Ella Sanders, Murray Ellington, Kaitlyn Cross, Olivia Cross, Sanders Wiggins.
Family visitation will be held from 5-7 pm at the Norwood home in Mineral Springs on Saturday, August 29. A graveside service for the family will be at 11:00 am on Sunday, August 30, at the Mineral Springs cemetery. A memorial service for Mrs. Norwood will take place at Central Baptist Church in Mineral Springs at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 30.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, Mineral Springs.

Melveda Arnold
August 27, 2009
Melveda Arnold, 88, of Laplace, LA, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at River Parish’s Hospital in Laplace. She was born October 14, 1920, at Chapel Hill, AR, the daughter of the late Floyd and Maude Butts Tolleson.
She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Alberta Chapter 538 of the Eastern Star. She was member of the Home Demostration Club; First Baptist Church in Laplace, LA, and former member of the Sardis Methodist Church. She attended services at Antioch Baptist Church.
Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Arnold.
She is survived by one daughter, Sylvia Terry of Laplace, LA; one sister, Billie Rae Istre of San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Graveside Services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 29, at Sardis cemetery, with Rev. Keenan Williams officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.

Jimmie L. Chambers

Jimmie L. Chambers, 67, of Birmingham, AL, died Friday, August 28, 2009.
He was born February 7, 1942, at Nashville, AR, the son of the late Leroy Chambers and Johnnie Furnatter Chambers.
Mr. Chambers graduated from the University of Florida. He was an accountant.
He was an Air Force Veteran, and an avid football fan.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Chambers of Birmingham, AL; mother, Johnnie Chambers of Texarkana, AR; one daughter, Pam Miller of Birmingham, AL; one sister, Carolyn Sue Donnell of Texarkana, AR; three grandsons, Sloan, Brennen and Wyatt and a host of friends.
Graveside Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 9, at Restland Memorial Park .

Mildred Jones

Mildred Alliene Jones of Mufreesboro, died Thursday, August 20, 2009, at a Murfreesboro nursing home. She was born January 17, 1923, at Murfreesboro, the daughter of the late John F. and Millie Lockeby Jones.
She was retired from United Gas in Shreveport, LA and moved backed to Murfreesboro in 1985.She was of the Baptist Belief.
She is preceded in death by six brothers, Walter, Edward, Russell, Andrew, Earl and Lloyd Jones and three sisters, Johnnye Bell, Lela Fern and Grace Pearl.
She is survived by several nephews and nieces.
Graveside Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 22, at Murfreesboro cemetery, with Bob James officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro.
