Clifton Wilson Norwood, Jr.
Mr. Clifton Wilson Norwood, Jr., age 71, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Saturday, July 3, 2004 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 3, 1933 in De Queen. He was a retired engineer for the D&E; TO&E; Railroad, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Clifton Norwood, Sr., and Allie Mae Jackson Norwood; two daughters, Peggy Sue Norwood and Betty Elaine Kimmell; a granddaughter, Katelen Shyann Parson; and a great-grandson, Timothy Burgess.
He is survived by his wife, Lille Norwood of De Queen; three sons, John Allen Norwood of Tucson, Ariz., James Edward Norwood of Forrest City, Ark., and Danny Andrew Norwood of Glenwood, Ark.; five daughters, Helen Elizabeth Burgess of Bonnerdale, Ark., Bonnie Kathleen Hulbert of Glenwood, Patty Ann Talley of Hot Springs, Ark., Cindy Annette Bacerra of De Queen, and Angela Faye Parson of Lockesburg, Ark.; three brothers, Archie Norwood of Pueblo, Colo., Donald Norwood of Dixon, Mo., and Bill Norwood of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Margaret Morrell, Estelle Roberson, and Geraldine Atkins, all of Pueblo, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Norwood were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2004 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alfred Thomas and Bro. John Overturf officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery.
The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 9, at the funeral home.
Harold Young
Mr. Harold Franklin Young, age 78, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at his home.
He was born to Samuel Edmond and Essie Lee Cunningham Young at Winthrop, Arkansas, on April 13, 1926. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army. He also served in the National Guard for 23 years. He was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church of De Queen, a member of the Sweet Home Masonic Lodge, and the VFW. He was retired owner of the Harold's Body Shop, and enjoyed working, fishing, and building things for his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clifton Young, Charles Young, and Howard Young; two sisters, Viola Hector and Dorotha Young; and a grandson, Scott Corey Young.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Merle Youngblood Young; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Dean Abrams of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; two sons and daughter-in-law, Sam and Linda Young of De Queen and Curtis Young of Bauxite, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Clint Young and his wife, Lauren, of De Queen, Brent Young and his wife, Lacey, of Bauxite, Samuel Abrams of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Benjamin Abrams of Broken Bow, and Caylee Young of Gillham; one great-granddaughter, Bradi Young of Bauxite; one brother, Carl E. Young of Leesburg, Georgia; a sister, Lyda Meins of Foreman, Arkansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Harold Young were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Frachiseur and Rev. Steve Woods officiating. Burial with military rites followed in Chapel Hill cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 21, 2004.
Mrs. Nelda Gathright
Mrs. Nelda Faye Harrison Gathright, age 64, resident of Lockesburg, died Sunday, June 6, 2004 in St. Michael Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 4, 1939 in Lockesburg, Arkansas to Nathaniel "Nat" Harrison and Irene Gore Harrison.
She was a loving and devoted pastor's wife and mother, who loved her grandsons greatly.
She was a retired employee of Southwest Arkansas Development Council for twenty-three and one half years, and a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church at Lockesburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Aves Clay.
She is survived by her husband James Alon Gathright. One son and daughter-in-law Michael "Mike" and Valerie Gathright. One daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Larry Eason. Three grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law Michael Gathright, Mark and Dana Eason and Brian Gathright. One Special daughter-in-law Diann Gathright, all of Lockesburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Gathright were held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2004 in the Old Union Missionary Baptist Church at Lockesburg, with Bro. Donnie Davis and Bro. Larry Eason. Burial followed in Old Union cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family gathered at her home at 404 N. Azalea Street in Lockesburg.
Donna Marie Cary
Mrs. Donna Marie Willis Cary, age 45, resident of Gillham, died Monday, June 14, 2004 in De Queen.
She was born Thursday, Oct. 13, 1958 in Irving, Tex.; was a truck driver for Cattlemen’s Livestock Market in Glenwood; and a member of Community of Christ Church in Grannis. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Anthony Owen.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Cary of Gillham; one son, Kenneth Wayne Cary of Gillham, two daughters, Latisha Owen Cary and Lori Cary, both of Gillham; her parents, Bill Willis of Wickes and Ethel Cannon George of De Queen; one brother, Billy Willis of Wickes; two sisters, Becky Hulse and Juanita Walling of Horatio; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18 in Community of Christ Church in Grannis with Richard Leach and Johnny Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Gillham cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 17 at the funeral home.
Richard C. Wynne
Richard C. Wynne, 82, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Monday, June 14, 2004 at his home.
He was born December 14, 1921 in Springhill, La., to Coy and Emma Wynne, the youngest of six children. He was a former resident of Polk County, Arkansas and lived and worked all over the United States as a civil engineer. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wynne; three sons, Terry Wynne, Perry Wynne, and Donald Wynne; two daughters, Sherry Young and Judy Sandaval; one sister, Goldie Ellis, 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service was held at Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista, Ark., with a reception open to friends and family at his daughter's home, Sherry Young of Fayetteville, on the afternoon of June 17th following the service.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Children's Hospital in Little Rock in lieu of flowers.
Opal Lou Pennington
Opal Lou Pennington, age 86, resident of Porterville, Calif., died Friday, May 28, 2004.
She was born April 22, 1918 at Grannis; and was a farm laborer in agriculture for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Jack Pennington; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Pennington and T.F. Pennington, both of Porterville, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Private family services were held in Porterville.
Bennie Rae Huffines
Mrs. Bennie Rae Huffines, age 78, resident of Mountain View, and formerly of Broken Bow, Okla., died Friday, June 4, 2004 in St. Vincent’s Infirmary in Little Rock.
She was born Nov. 4, 1925 in Big Flat to the late Lonnie and Fannie Sutterfield; married
Garner L. Huffines in 1946; was a homemaker; a member of the church choir, assisted on the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brother James.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Thomas of Mountain View and Bettina Malinak of Dover, NJ; two sons, Randall Huffines of Broken Bow, Okla., and Paul Huffines of De Queen; a brother, Beemer Sutterfield of Southside; a sister, Sharon Avey of Big Springs; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 8 in Flatwoods Baptist Church with Junior Avey and Wayne Harper officiating, under the direction of Roller Coffman Crouch Funeral Home of Mountain View. Interment was held later at Broken Bow, Okla.
Burrel Lisenby Oglesby
Mrs. Burrel Lisenby Oglesby, age 77, resident of Foreman, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown.
She was born Aug. 28, 1927 in Cerro Gordo; was a homemaker; and a member of King Ryder Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dalton Lisenby in 1993 and Euel Oglesby in 2003; and her parents, Andrew and Annie Martin.
She is survived by two sons, Dalton D. Lisenby Sr. of Ashdown and Farrell D. Lisenby of Foreman; one sister, Judy Ennis of Seattle, Wash.; five grandsons; one step-granddaughter; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in Dollarhide cemetery with Bro. Frank Plemmons officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Otis James Powell Jr.
Otis James (Scooter) Powell Jr., age 35, resident of De Queen, died Friday, June 11, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 5, 1969 at De Queen to Otis James and Patricia Powell Sr.; was a member of New Zion Baptist Church at Lockesburg; and employed at Pilgrim’s. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Powell; and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Florene Powell of Lockesburg; a daughter, LaTasha Keaster of Tyler, Tex.; two sons, Matthew Powell and Otis J. Powell III, both of Lockesburg; his parents, Otis and Dorothy Powell Sr. of De Queen; five sisters, Sandra Anderson and Gwendolyn Bell, both of De Queen, Viola Lockett of Waukegan, Ill., Gabriella Powell of Keller, Tex.; Naudi Powell of De Queen; brothers, David Phillips of Waukegan, Ill., Cory Powell of Beaumont, Tex., Justin Powell of Conway, Jimmy, Lonnie and Charles Jr., all of De Queen, and Kevin Johnson of Conway; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19 at Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ with Rev. Randy Briggs officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Hill cemetery under the direction of Hick’s Funeral Home of Hope.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Powell Sr., 410 S. 4th St., De Queen.
