Kelvin Williamson
Kelvin Henry Williamson, age 50, resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 at his home.
He was born Oct. 22, 1953 at De Queen to Everett Preston and Edith Pickett Williamson; was a caregiver; and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by one brother, Delmon Williamson of De Queen; two sisters, Loraine Adcock of De Queen and Elaine Dugan of Horatio; and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 in Clear Creek cemetery with Rev. O.D. Hobbs officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
Lona Kitchens
A long time resident of De Queen was called home to be with Jesus early Monday morning. Lona Beatrice Roden Kitchens was born July 12, 1922 in Hochatown, Okla., and passed into Glory on August 23, 2004 at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-love, Doylene and Charles "Nub" Young of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; granddaughters, Laura Ann and husband, Butch Walls of Gillett, Ark., Sheila Kay and husband, Scott Eddy, and Kristin Elizabeth "KiKi" Young of Mt. Pleasant; and great-grandchildren, Travis, Tara and Tyler Walls, Sarah, Rebekah and Daniel Eddy, Kaitlyn Bretches, and Parker Jones.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Ivy Roden; mother, Lizzie Jacobs; brothers, Kenneth Roden and Clayton and Billy Dean Jacobs; her sisters, Helen Roden Grubbs and Patsy Jacobs Taggart; and one nephew, Tommy Grubbs.
She was a baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen.
She was a waitress, cook and one of the first employees of Mountaire, now known as Pilgrim's Pride, when it came to De Queen. She spent years being a grandma to many kids at Grandma's House Day Nursery.
Under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, graveside services were at Millcreek cemetery with Rev. Faron Rogers officiating, on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at 2:00 p.m.
Visition with the family was Tuesday, August 24 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the Wilkerson Funeral Home.
A special note to all her friends: She never called Texas home and she missed everyone of you a great deal. She told us so every day and usually in a loud voice. Thank you so much for being there for her when we could not. She counted on your support and she loved you all. Our prayer is that God will surround you with friends and neighbors that minister to your lives as you all ministered to her.
Mildred Lila Hodges
Mrs. Mildred Lola Hodges, age 83, resident of Carthage, Tex., died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004.
She was born Dec. 13, 1920 in Panola County, Tex., to Andrew Winerferd and Mary Lola Denton Sanders; was a homemaker; and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Charles Hodges; her parents; two brothers, T.W. Sanders and Jasper Sanders; one sister, Gertrude Green; a grandson, Robert Earl Hodges II; a great-grandson, Wesley Martin; and a son-in-law, Vernon Twomey.
She is survived by two sons, David Wesley Hodges and Robert Earl Hodges, both of Carthage, Tex.; three daughters, Loretta Etheredge and Louise Twomey, both of Carthage, Tex., and Lois Crawford of Lockesburg; one sister, Maxine Barnes of Chandler, Tex.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grand-children; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 in Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tom Campbell and Rev. Bruce Will officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem cemetery in Panola County, Tex.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church building fund.
Doris Marie Davis
Mrs. Doris Marie Moore Davis, age 79, a resident of Dierks, AR, died Friday, August 13, 2004 in Howard Memorial Hospital, Nashville, AR.
She was born October 17, 1925 in Vera, TX to John Buren and Willie Mae Blackburn Moore. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband John L. Davis, and a daughter, Joyce Marie Davis Lott.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Johnny and Cindy Davis of Dierks, AR; three brothers: John Bill Moore of Dierks, AR, Ren and Vita Moore and Earnest Moore, all of Seymour, TX, one sister: Nell Palmer of Midland, TX, three grandsons: Brad and Laura Davis, Chris Davis, and Kyle Davis, five granddaughters: Kim Phillips, Kelly Brule, Teresa and Jimmy Davis, Kendra and Guy Matthews, Carli Davis, five great grandsons: Jonathan Davis, Kameron Smith, Lane Gauldin, Koty Albott, Kolton Matthews, three great granddaughters: Kayla and Ed Clark, Lindsey Dorsey, Kara Matthews, two great-great grandchildren: Drue Clark and Kayedin Clark and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Davis were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2004 in the Dierks cemetery with Rev. J.W. Gilbret officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Dierks Chapel.
Molly Ann Greer
Mrs. Molly Ann Brewer Greer, age 54, resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 in Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
She was born Dec. 13, 1949 at De Queen to O. Lee and Bessie F. Carpenter Brewer; was an assistant principal at Lake St. George Elementary School in Pinellas County, Fla.; president of Phi Delta Kappa; and a member of Northwest Tampa Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Donald Lee Greer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one son, Daniel Lee Greer of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Rosalie Maher of Ocala, Fla., and Carmen A. Kelly of Crawfordville, Fla.; her parents, O. L. and Bessie F. Brewer of De Queen; one brother, Denny Brewer of Conway; and four grandsons.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25 in Valley cemetery at Gillham with Van Ledbetter and Paul Hillier, ministers, officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the funeral home.

Arthur H. Thomas
Arthur H. Thomas, age 85, of North Little Rock, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning. Arthur was born on July 14, 1919 in Sevier County a son of the late Arthur Waldon Thomas and Ocie Farmer Thomas. He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Patricia Diane.
A veteran of World War II, Thomas served in the navy aboard the USS Hogan (DMS-6) in the Asiatic Pacific. He was awarded the Victory Medal and the Bronze Star. Before entering the military service he was a member in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Mr. Thomas was the owner and founder of Thomas Engineering Company of North Little Rock. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and Registered Land Surveyor. His firm provided the planning and engineering on Lakewood, Overbrook, Shady Valley and numerous other developments in the metropolitan area, including engineering on McCain Mall and Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Thomas was a member of numerous professional and engineering organizations including being a past President of the Consulting Engineer's Council of Arkansas. He was a member of National Consulting Engineer's Council, Arkansas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, National Society of Professional Engineers, and a member of the Arkansas Association of Registered Land Surveyors.
Mr. Thomas belonged to the First United Methodist Church in North Little Rock and the Ambassador's Sunday school class. As a member of the North Hills Country Club, he enjoyed playing golf and gin with his buddies for many years.
In addition to his wife, Pat, he leaves behind his daughters, Karin Briscoe (Paul) of Little Rock, and Jan Pownall (John) of North Little Rock, a half-sister, Lyda Ruth Harrell of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Rhonda Dossett (Stanton), Thomas Pownall, and Andrew Pownall (Cassie); and great-grandchildren Daniel Pownall and Julian, Olivia, Grace and Bess Dossett. He will be truly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock, with Reverend Raymond Dorman officiating. Visitation was held from 6-8p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock.
Lee Ethel Johnson
Lee Ethel Johnson, a long time resident of 142 W. Rock Hill Road, Lockesburg, died Friday, August 13, 2004. She was the only surviving child of Neal Simpson and Tera Elzora (Little) Shinn. She was born June 19, 1902 in the house built by her father and Walter Little and lived there most of her life until May of 2001. After a fall she resided at Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.
Mrs. Johnson was librarian at Lockesburg Public Library for 25 years, serving into her 80’s. She was also known as the “crochet lady”. She made crocheted doilies, dresser and table scarves, tablecloths, baby booties and afghans for half the people in southwest Arkansas. She made a crocheted tablecloth for each of her grandchildren and an afghan for each great-grandchild.
She loved flowers and vegetable gardening. Her vegetable garden provided enough for canning, freezing, family and friends. Ethel loved to cook pies and cakes for her grandchildren. Her front yard and long front porch were full of blooms from spring to frost. She had over 180 African violets. She also enjoyed her pets and they lived long lives under her care. Bird watching and reading were other pleasures.
Her family will carry with them her gifts of devotion, strength, courage and love of nature. They will always remember the sparkle in her blue eyes, her sweet spirit, easy smile and busy hands.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jesse Roy and Joan (Root) Johnson of Nashville, Tenn.; her daughter and son-in-law, Wilma Lee and Thomas A. Jewkes of De Queen; five grandchildren, Jimmy Jack Jones, Milpitas, Calif., Charlotte Wilemon, De Queen, Betty Rolfe, Horatio, Steve Johnson, Nashville, Tenn., and Frances Ann Walker, Ashburn, Va.; great-grandchildren are Rebecca Towery, Fredericksburg, Va., John Robert Walker, Ashburn, Va., Jesse and Joanna Johnson, Nashville, Tenn., Neal and Jennifer Rolfe, Horatio, Lynette Hanley and Crystal Gibson, De Queen; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Roy Johnson, Sr.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lockesburg, United Methodist Women, Rock Hill Home Demonstration Club, and Lockesburg Senior Citizens.
Family visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 16 at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 403 Stilwell, De Queen, Ark., 870-642-2218. Funeral services were at the First United Methodist Church, Lockesburg, on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 10:00 a.m. Burial was at the Old Union cemetery outside Lockesburg on Provo Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lockesburg Public Library or the First United Methodist Church of Lockesburg.
Barbara Joann Perez
Barbara Joann Perez, age 51, resident of Horatio, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 in Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center at Texarkana.
She was born Sept. 5, 1952 in Portage, Wisc., to Howard and Bertha Bingham Bass.
She is survived by three daughters, Crystal Kirby and Felicia Kirby, both of Las Vegas, Nev., and Vandana Estevez of Horatio; her parents; and one grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Fortner officiating.
