Nelson Edward Watson
Nelson Edward Watson, age 74, resident of Avery, Tex., and formerly of Green’s Chapel Community, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003 at his home.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 in Green’s Chapel cemetery with Rev. Denny Lambert officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1929 in Sevier county; was a heavy equipment operator; and a Methodist, He was predeceased by his parents, John L. and Caroline Bard Watson; his wife, Velma McManus Watson; one daughter, Valerie Scott; one stepdaughter, Betty McGough; one stepson, Dickie Morgan; and one grandson, Daniel Cain.
He is survived by three sons, Steve Watson of New Boston, Tex., John Aitchison of North Dakota, and Nelson Aitchison of Washington; one daughter, Lynn Ruffner of California; his stepchildren, Tommy Morgan, Cecelia Cain and Norma Pennington, all of Avery, Tex.; two sisters, Opal Hogg of Dierks and Stella Alexander of Hot Springs; two brothers, Wesley Watson of North Little Rock, and Lake Watson of Greenley, Calif.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at the funeral home.
Barbara Ward Kirk
Barbara Ward Kirk, age 72, resident of Killeen, Tex., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2003 in Austin, Tex.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 in DeKalb First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Ward and Rev. Kenneth Ray officiating. Burial followed in Woodmen cemetery under the direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home.
She was born March 24, 1931 in De Queen; was a homemaker; a Baptist; and a member of Navy Wives Organization. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger B. Kirk on Jan. 29, 1991; and one son, Bobby Kirk on May 19, 2000.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Glen Kirk of Georgetown, Tex., and Ward Kirk of Austin, Tex.; one brother, James Owen Ward of West Point, Va.; three granddaughters; one step-grand-son; and two great-grandchildren.

Harley West
Harley West, age 81, resident of Dierks, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 in a Texarkana hospital.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 in Latimer Funeral Home Chapel at Nashville with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Burial followed in Restland Memorial Park cemetery.
He was born April 10, 1922 in De Queen to the late Charlie and Lettie Weaver West; was a member of First Baptist Church of Nashville; and a self-employed brick mason. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jewel West; one brother, Harvey West; and one sister, Loreen Bolt.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa Lee West of Dierks; one son, Sherman West of Dierks; five daugh-ters, Wanda Grant and Doris Samuel, both of Hope, Nancy Adams of De Queen, Peggy Hitchcock of Hooks, Tex., and Donna Hartness of Nashville; two stepdaughters, Linda Bryant of West Monroe, La., and Becky Sirmon of Dierks; one brother, Sherman West of Florida; and a number of grandchildren, great-grand-children, nieces and nephews.
James Emerson, Jr.
James Russell "Jimmy" Emerson, Jr., age 59, resident of De Queen, went to be with the Lord, on Thursday, November 6, 2003, in a Little Rock Hospital. He was born to James Russell, Sr. and Mable Bland at De Queen, Arkansas, on October 5, 1944. He was a veteran of Vietnam Conflict, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was retired from the D. & E. T. O. & E. Railroad with twenty years service.
He preceded in death by his father, James Russell Emerson, Sr. and his mother, Mable Farra, a son, James Russell Emerson, III, and a granddaughter, Jessica Rose Leistikow.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Vickers Emerson of De Queen; four sons and daughters-in-law: Bret and Elizabeth Emerson and Bart and Cindy Emerson all of De Queen, Buddy and Angela McCune of Flippin, Arkansas, and Richard Emerson of California; two daughters and son-in-law: Rose and Joseph Williams of Garland, Texas and Debbie Vankirk of Gassville, Arkansas; seven sisters and brother-in-law: Sandra and Noel Wayne Chandler of Houston, Texas, Rita Fielder and Lesa Shipp, both of Texarkana, Texas, Phyllis Beaty of Hope, Arkansas, Katrina Johnson, Sandy Pammier and Karen Bourns, all of Texas; a special aunt and uncle: Bobbie and Bruce Parker of Wichita, Kansas; his stepmother: Ruby Emerson of Texarkana, Texas; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Emerson were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2003 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation followed. Viewing began Sunday, November 9, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. The family received friends at the Funeral Home on Monday, November 10, 2003 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Ozelle Flournoy
Ozelle Causey Flournoy, age 65, resident of Shelbyville, Tex., and formerly of De Queen, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003 in Houston, Tex.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3 in Watson & Sons Funeral Home Chapel at Center, Tex., with Bro. Bon Windham officiating. Burial followed in Rather cemetery in Shelby County, Tex.
She was born Sept. 30, 1938 in Gillham. She was predeceased by two daughters, Tanna Lee Flournoy and Kristi Elizabeth Flournoy; one son, Bobby Duane Flournoy; and one sister, Barbara Ann Reynolds.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Flournoy of Shelbyville, Tex.; one daughter, Kimberlie Faye Thrift of Timpson, Tex.; three sons, Anthony Clinton Flournoy of Tulsa, Okla., and Danny Ray Flournoy and Wesley James Flournoy, both of Shelbyville, Tex.; four sisters, Rozell Cross of De Queen, Bonnie Rhymer of Wright City, Okla., Donna Causey of Lufkin, Tex., and Glenda Dockens of Center, Tex.; seven brothers, Alvie Causey of De Queen, Hershal Causey, Johnny Causey and Ricky Causey, both of Valliant, Okla., Paul Causey of Longview, Tex., Roy Causey of Dallas, Tex., and Johnny Causey of Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Aves Clay
Mrs. Aves Allene (Harrison) Clay, age 73, a resident of Lockes-burg, died Thursday, October 30, 2003, in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center in Texarkana.
She was born Saturday, September 13, 1930 in the Melrose Community near Lockesburg. She was a homemaker, rancher and raised poultry.
Mrs. Clay was preceded in death by her parents: Nat and Irene (Gore) Harrison.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Herman F. "Dago" Clay; three sons and daughters-in-law: Ronnie and Wendy Clay, Randall and Karen Clay and Larry and Joni Clay; one daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl and Gary Lowrey; and one sister: Nelda Gathright, all of Lockesburg. She was MeMaw to her nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services for Mrs. Aves Clay were held at 2:00 p.m., Sat-urday, November 1, 2003 in the Bellville Methodist Church with Rev. Wallace Wooten and Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in the Bellville cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Cecil Turner
Cecil Turner, age 82, resident of New Hope, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 in Dierks Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 in Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Melvin Markham officiating. Burial followed in Corinth cemetery near Center Point, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
He was born April 21, 1921 in Dierks; was a member of Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church; a retired employee of Howard County; and a veteran of World War II, where he served for three years mostly in Europe and Asia. He was predeceased by his parents, Gus Tavis and Coy Dovie Miller Turner; his wife of 59-1/2 years, Hazel Annie Huddleston Turner, on July 18, 2001; four sisters, Lorean Jackson, Ethel Job, Mildred Collison and Gracie Turner; and one brother, Clifford Turner.
He is survived by six daughters, Evelyn Collison of Yacolt, Wash., Ellen Ward and Susie Ward, both of Dierks, Marie Powell and Lynn Tipton, both of Lockesburg, and Ann Young of New Hope; two sons, Kenneth Turner of Umpire and Wendell Turner of Nashville; one brother, Luther Turner of Daisy; 28 grandchildren; 49 great-grand-children; one great-great-grand-child; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at the funeral home at Dierks.
Walter Allen Hellums
Walter Allen Hellums, age 69, resident of Bruce, Miss., died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 in Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with Rev. Joe Epting and Rev. John Gray officiating. Burial followed in Antioch cemetery.
He was born April 29, 1934 in De Queen to the late Henry Grady and Lillie Roane Hellums; was a retired Sears Catalog & Retail store owner; a member of Banner Baptist Church and a deacon; and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was predeceased by a brother, Clayton Hellums.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Turner Hellums of Bruce, Miss.; two daughters, Vickie Yarbrough of Bruce, Miss., and Karen Platt of St. Charles, Mo.; one son, Scott Hellums of Bruce, Miss.; three brothers, Dwight Hellums of Randolph, Miss., James Hellums of Oxford, Miss., and Jake Hellums of Bruce, Miss.; three sisters, Gertha Hornsby of De Queen, Vera Angle of Bruce, Miss., and Winnie Sykes of Senatobia, Miss.; and six granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
Burton Robert Chapman
Burton Robert Chapman, age 74, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003 in De Queen Re-gional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 in Old Town cemetery in Tuskahoma, Okla., with Rev. Mark Boyd officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
He was born Jan. 11, 1929 in Chicago, Ill.; was retired; and a member of First Baptist Church in De Queen. He was predeceased by his parents, David and Doris Schanfeld Chapman.
He is survived by his wife, Fredia Slaton Chapman; two sons, Burton Robert Chapman Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., and David Lee Chapman of Stafford, Va.; two daughters, Karen Rhea and Rita Tischer, both of De Queen; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Jacqueline Eleanor Marsh
Jacqueline Eleanor Marsh, age 76, resident of Nashville, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 in Texarkana, Tex.
A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 in the Church of Christ in Lockesburg, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
She was born April 9, 1927 in Miami, Fla., to the late Harry and Velma Henderson Woodruff; was a Licensed Practical Nurse; and a member of The Lord’s Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Wayne Marsh; and two sisters, Murle Fessenden of Shelby, Mi., and Renee Beaumont of El Paso, Tex.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Marsh of Nashville and Thomas Wayne Sanderson of Hemet, Calif.; one brother, John Woodruff of Iowa; three grandchildren; and eight great-grand-children.
Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.
