Gladys Oleta Evans
Gladys Oleta Stubbs Evans, age 76, resident of Grannis, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 in Mena Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 in First United Methodist Church in Wickes with Rev. John Henry Williams officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Cove under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
She was born Aug. 29, 1927 in De Queen; was a homemaker; and a member of Geneva Missionary Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her parents, James Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Bales Stubbs; her husband, Henry David Evans; two brothers, Leroy and Rule Stubbs; and four grandchildren.
She is survived by five sons, Leon Evans of Wickes, Paul Evans of Benton, Robert Evans, Earl Evans and Jimmy Evans, all of Grannis; six daughters, Fern Dering and Lucy Robb, both of Grannis, Kathy House of De Queen, Robby Evans of Vandervoort, Mary Jester of Gillham, and Arlene Evans of Wickes; six sisters, Loree Evans of Wickes, Evelyn Johnson, Bernis Taylor and Rosalee Melton, all of De Queen, and Pearl Stubbs of Nashville; 29 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at the funeral home.
The family will be at the home of Fern Dering, 531 Polk 10, Wickes.
Billy Joe Gray
Billy Joe Gray, age 51, resident of Idabel, Okla., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 under the direction of Jim Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel, Okla.
He was born March 6, 1952 in Iron Stob, Okla., to Alvin and Dollie Dimple Sharp Gray; lived most of his life in McCurtain County; and was affiliated with the Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Shirley Jeanette Gray.
He is survived by three brothers, Jerry Gray of Milburn, Okla., Gary Don Gray of Dierks and Larry Gray of Wickes; five sisters, Diann Wilborn of Holly Creek, Okla., Betty Deer of Lockesburg, Janet Pond of Dierks, Rita Carrell of Pleasant Hill and Rhonda Nuncio of Holly Creek, Okla.
Donny Sutton
Donny Wayne Sutton, age 32, a resident of Lockesburg, died Tues-day, September 23, 2003 in Lockesburg.
He was born October 20, 1970 in Ft. Ord, California. He was an asphalt machine operator for Sutton Paving.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Foy and Floatie Sutton and Leo and Elouise Graham; and one sister: Cheri Ann Sutton.
He is survived by his father and step-mother: Bill and Jirl Sutton of Lockesburg; his mother and step-father: Brenda Lee and John Harmon of Oregon; three brothers: Joe Sutton and Wade Sutton, both of Lockesburg, and Bob Sutton of Oregon; one sister: Beverly Nicholas of Lockesburg; two step-sisters: Dawn Harmon and Angie Harmon, both of California; one step-brother: John Harmon, also of California; five adopted brothers and sisters: Chris Harmon, Damon Harmon, Bryce Harmon, Abby Harmon, and Mack Harmon, all of Oregon; and his fiance: Lisa Grubbs of Lockesburg.
Graveside funeral services for Donny Wayne Sutton will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003 in the Oddfellows Section of Lockesburg cemetery with Rev. Charles Jones officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Bryan McKellar
Mr. Bryan McKellar, age 95, a resident of Ben Lomond, Ark., died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at his home.
He was born January 15, 1908 in Lockesburg, Ark., to Robert Lee and Lillian Lee Deal McKellar. He was a retired shipping foreman for Gunter Brothers Lumber Company and a member of the Ben Lomond Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife: Ester Harrison McKellar of Ben Lomond; a son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Terry McKellar of Texarkana, Arkansas; a brother: Frank McKellar of Lockesburg; a sister: Lois Gore, also of Lockesburg; and two grandchildren: Scott and Alexis McKellar.
Funeral services for Mr. McKellar were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003 in the Ben Lomond Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Donald Bowman and Jerry McKellar officiating. Burial followed in the Ben Lomond cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, De Queen.
Annie Cornelius
Mrs. Annie Pearl Cornelius, age 95, a resident of Lockesburg, died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at her home.
She was born, one of twelve children, March 5, 1908 in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was a retired nurse and a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cornelius was preceded in death by her parents: William and Dona Wester-field Taylor; her husband: Burlin Cornelius; one daughter: Verna Louise Guyer; and one granddaughter: Fredia Leathers.
She is survived by one daughter: LaVerne Roan of De Queen; one son and daugh-ter-in-law: Melvin and Margaret Cornelius of Ashdown; one sister: Ruth Roberts of Owensboro, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cornelius were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sep-tember 13, 2003 in the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at Lockesburg with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in the Bellville Ceme-tery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Naomi Jewel Roberts
Mrs. Naomi Jewel Roberts, age 70, resident of Smithville, Okla., died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 in Mena Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 in Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Herb Shreve and Pastor Don Sisk officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
She was born Aug. 17, 1933 in Deora, Colo., to John Wesley and Rutha Chambers Parker; was a housewife; a member of Octavia Baptist Church; and was active in the Wickes Senior Citizens Center. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, William Roberts of Smithville, Okla.; one son, William Wesley Rob-erts of Mena; four daughters, Judy N. Whitaker of Cove, B. Lyn Thomas of Paso Robles, Calif., Sandra Jane Badger of Rocky, and Rhonda J. Smith of Plunkettville; two brothers, Frank Parker of Camas Valley, Ore., and Bud Parker of Atascadero, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
William F. Lawrence Jr.
William Franklin "Bill" Lawrence Jr., age 79, resident of Horatio, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Denison cemetery at Idabel.
He was born May 9, 1924 at Bethel, Okla., to William Franklin Sr. and Nancy Virginia Walston Lawrence; was a veteran of World War II having served as a Staff Sgt. In the U.S. Army; retired civil service with the Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, Calif.; a master home builder; and a member of State Line Baptist Church at Cerro Gordo. He was predeceased by his parents; a grandson, Danny Keith Lawrence; a sister, Willie Mae Hoover; and in 1976 his first wife, Alice Earlene Darnell Lawrence.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Dorene Stricker Lawrence of Horatio; one son, Larry Keith Law-rence of Houston, Tex.; two stepsons, Derrick Wayne Tidwell of Vancouver, Wash., and John Matthew Taylor of Visalia, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Paula Roseanne Pool of Vancouver, Wash., and Dorene Leimer of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Earney Lawrence of Idabel, Okla.; five sisters, Lillian Virginia Whitten, Faye Maggelene Gates and Edith Marshall, all of Idabel, Okla., May O’Dessie Stinnett of Owassa, Okla., and Sylvia Lee Llewyllen of Collinsville, Okla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Nollie Layfayette "Red’ Launius Jr., age 76, resident of Dierks, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 in Howard County Memorial Hospital at Nashville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 9 in First Assembly of God in Dierks with Rev. Henry Bateman and Rev. Jack Isham officiating. Burial followed in Old Liberty cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
He was born Oct. 4, 1926 in Holly Springs to Nollie Layfayette Sr. and Molly Emily Jackson Launius; was a retired heavy equipment operator for Weyerhaeuser; a U.S. Navy veteran; a member of the AFL-CIO Union; and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Dierks. He was predeceased by two brothers, Nolan Launius and Algie Launius; and his stepmother, Mary Walker Launius.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Kesterson Launius and Ronnie Launius, both of Dierks; four sons, Thomas Launius of Nashville, Delton Launius of New Hope, and Glen Launius of Lockesburg; one daughter, Emily Rosamond of West, Miss.; one sister, Evalena Mizell of San Antonio, Tex.; four brothers, Ferrel Launius of Bearden, Weldon Launius of Dazell, NC, Lamar Launius of Phoenix, Ariz., and Carroll Launius of Memphis, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grand-children; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Edwin Earl Taggart
Edwin Earl Taggart, age 73, resident of De Queen, died Friday, June 6, 2003 in Christus St. Michael Health System at Texarkana.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. Faron Rogers officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born Oct. 1, 1929 in De Queen to Jesse James and Annie Mae Brawley Taggart; was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marines; was an employee of Rockwell International for 34-1/2 years; and established the Nettle Hill Hunting Club. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Clifton Price; a sister, Eileen Laspesa; and his wife, Patsy Ann Jacobs Taggart in 1976.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Inez Taggart Sossman of Redondo Beach, Calif.; three brothers, Arthur Clinton Price of Bull Head, Ariz., Vic Taggart of Hemet, Calif., and Lloyd Taggart of Torrance, Calif.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Edna M. Callis
Edna M. Callis, age 97, resident of York, Me., and formerly of De Queen, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 in Edgewood Center in Portsmouth, NH.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8 in United Methodist Church of York-Ogunquit. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16 in Arlington National cemetery. Arrangements by the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home of York.
She was born March 27, 1906 in Kansas City, Kan., to Charles L. and Etta Eyer Bogard; was a Li-censed Practical Nurse acting as an operating room supervisor at Leonardtown Hospital, Leonardtown, Md.; graduated from Fitchburg State College as an X-ray technician; and was an X-ray technician and electrocardiograph technician at Norwood Hospital, Norwood, Ma. She was also a designer and teacher of hooked rugs and was the teacher of the man who designed and hooked the rug of the presidential seal, which was on display in the White House and the Kennedy Compound.
She was a certified Pearl McGowen rug hooking instructor and member of the Pearl McGowen Gallery Association and taught in New England, throughout the East Coast, and in Arkansas and Texas; and was a member of the Methodist Church of York-Ogunquit. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard O. Callis in 1956; and a daughter, Vearldean Bailey Wright.
She is survived by two daughters, Grace T. MacMillian of York, Me., and Ethel M. Wommack of De Queen; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grand-children; and six great-great-grandchildren.
