Earnest L. Gore
Earnest L. Gore, age 81, resident of Ashdown, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004.
He was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; an elder at Camden Cumberland Presbyterian Chur-ch; a school board member in the Camden Fairview school district; an Army veteran receiving a purple heart and a bronze star; a moderator of Arkansas synod; and was retired from International Paper after 35 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Gore; three sons, Thomas Leon Gore of Gillham, Terry Alan Gore of Pineville, La., and Larry Joe Gore of Benton; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Launius of Ashdown and Debra Sue Gore of Saratoga; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Madden Funeral Home Chapel at Ashdown. Burial followed in Millwee cemetery.
Will Hardy Reeves
Will Hardy “Bill” Reeves, age 67, resident of Texarkana, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 at his home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1937 at Richmond, Va.; was a retired accountant, as well as a farmer; a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict; and a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Kerley Reeves of Texarkana; a son, Glynn Sears of Texarkana; a daughter, Angela Householder of Laguna Park, Tex.; and two granddaughters.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 in Belleville cemetery with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Myles Albert Davis
Myles Albert Davis, age 58, resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, Dec. 8 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 5, 1946 at De Queen; was a retired Millwright; and attended First Christian Church of De Queen. He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Muriel Smith Davis.
He is survived by two sons, John Davis of Everett, Wash., and Myles Edward Davis of Oklahoma; two daughters, Christy Lynn Davis of Lynwood, Wash., and Muriel A. Davis of Oklahoma; his father and stepmother, Leonard and Della Davis of Hooks, Tex.; three brothers, Paul Davis, Burt Davis and Leonard Davis, all of De Queen; three sisters, Jessie Mason of Dierks, Rebecca Davis of De Queen, and Tabitha Davis of Hooks, Tex.; three step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Cremation was done. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jack McCullough officiating.
Bernice Murphy
Mrs. Bernice M. Smith Murphy, age 93, resident of Phoenix, Ariz., and formerly of De Queen, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 in Phoenix.
She was born Aug. 14, 1911 at De Queen to Bruce and Janie Yates Smith; was a homemaker; and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Custer Smith, Coy Smith, DeWitt Smith and Dale Smith; and two sisters, Lillie Murphy and Lottie Bonds.
She is survived by a stepson, Lloyd Murphy of Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Winona Gilbert of Phoenix, Ariz.; two step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12 in Mt. Ida cemetery with Bro. Joe Carlton officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Patricia Nell Goodwin
Patricia Nell Williams Goodwin, age 50, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 28, 1954 in Irving, Tex., to Arthur and Mildred Williams Sr.; and was a home-maker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michieal W. Goodwin on Aug. 30, 2000; and a brother, Gerald Williams.
She is survived by three sons, William F. Goodwin and James Deeham, both of De Queen, and Mi-chieal V. Goodwin of Dallas, Tex.; four daughters, Ashley Williams, Aurora Rojas and Lisa Goodwin, all of De Queen, and Dawn Ewing of DeKalb, Tex.; her mother, Mildred Borchert of Irving, Tex.; her father, Arthur Williams Sr. of Honolulu, Hi.; three sisters, Lee Virginia McDonald, Harriett Wiley and Karen Long; a brother, Arthur Williams Jr. of De Queen; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 in Sweet Home cemetery with Rev. Steve Woods officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Marguerite Cloer Dellinger
Marguerite Cloer Dellinger, age 90, resident of Texarkana, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 in Texarkana.
She was born April 3, 1914 to Jim and Pearl Polk Sutton; was a descent of Ben Lomond pioneers, W.C. Sutton and Henry Polk, grandparents; was the first woman deputy in Sevier County; the first female tax assessor in the county; the first woman elected to office in Sevier county; taught piano at Ben Lomond school for many years; a former member of the Presbyterian Church in De Queen, the Presbyterian Circle, the Ben Lomond Presbyterian Church, and currently a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Texarkana, Tex., and was also a member of the Arkansas Democratic Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jasper Dellinger and Charlie Cloer; and one grandson, James Matthew Dellinger Jr.
She is survived by one son, James Dellinger of Texarkana; two grandsons; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Ben Lomond Presbyterian Church with Rev. B.J. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ben Lomond cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends and relatives at 111 Kimball in Wake Village, Tex.
Edna Catherine Axton
Edna Catherine Axton, age 92, resident of Dierks, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 in Howard Memorial Hospital at Nashville.
She was born July 5, 1912 in Dierks to John and Betty Potts Axton; was a retired nurse; and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Dierks.
She is survived by a sister, Oma James of Dierks; and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 in First Assembly of God Church in Dierks with Rev. Henry Bateman officiating. Burial followed in Dierks cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of Dierks.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at the Dierks Chapel.
Mary Dale Coulter
Mrs. Mary Dale Coulter, age 76, a resident of Lockesburg, Ark., died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 15, 1928 in De Queen to John Leland and Venus Martindale Glasgow. She was a graduate of De Queen High School and Ouachita Baptist College. She began her teaching career at Lockesburg Elementary School where she is remembered by many students as their third grade teacher. She also taught second and fourth grades. She retired with 25 years of service in 1985.
In 1950 she married
Billy Coulter of Lockesburg at the parsonage of the First Baptist Church in De Queen. Mary Dale's family was first active in the First Baptist Church. She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lockesburg for many years and a strong and active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member and contributor of the Sevier County Library Board, a member of the Garden Club, and the De Queen Regional Medical Center auxiliary volunteers. Her hobbies included gardening, homemaking and gourmet cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, Joseph Leland Glasgow.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Coulter of Lockesburg; her children, Kathryn Ann and Dan Clemans of Sherwood, Ark., John and Donna Coulter, and Joe Burton and Katie Coulter, all of Lockesburg; her grandchildren, Stacy and Ted Kitchens, Leslie Coulter, Caleb Coulter, and Sarah Coulter.
Funeral services for Mrs. Coulter were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2004 in the First United Methodist Church of Lockesburg with Revs. Lynn McClure, J. R. Callicott and Wesley Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in the Coulter cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004 at the funeral home.
Mr. R. C. Harris
Mr. R. C. Harris, age 88, a resident of Athens, Ark., died Sunday, November 28, 2004 in Hot Springs.
He was born October 18, 1916 in Daisy, Ark., to John and Tamar DePriest Harris. He was a farmer, a WWII Army veteran, and a member of the Mt. View Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wife, Farris Harris.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Lynn Roberts of Greenwood, Ark. and Sonja and Randy Markham of Lan-gley, Ark.; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Byrl and Mary Lee Sirmon of Magnolia, Ark.; a very dear friend, Mabel Pinkerton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Harris were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2004 in the Mt. View Missionary Baptist Church in Umpire with Kenny Bizzell officiating. Burial followed in the Athens cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 30, at the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks.
