Will Hardy Reeves
Will Hardy “Bill” Reeves, age 67, resident of Texarkana, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 at his home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1937 at Richmond, Va.; was a retired accountant, as well as a farmer; a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict; and a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Kerley Reeves of Texarkana; a son, Glynn Sears of Texarkana; a daughter, Angela Householder of Laguna Park, Tex.; and two granddaughters.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 in Belleville cemetery with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Roy Junior Penick
Roy Junior Penick, age 73, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 in Christus St. Michael Health System at Texarkana.
He was born March 31, 1931 at Atoka, Okla., to William Lee and Eunice May Penick; was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; retired from Sevier County Farmer’s Co-op; was currently a bus driver for Sevier County Development Center; and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Stacey Penick; a stepson, Curtis Spears; four sisters; and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Penick of De Queen; two sons, Roger Penick of Collinsville, Okla., and Steve Penick of Dierks; one daughter, Brenda Holland of Dierks; two stepsons, Gary Clift of De Queen and Donald Spears of Arkansas; two stepdaughters, Sue Taylor of Higginson and Janience Wright of Lane, Okla.; four brothers, Lewis Penick of Atoka, Okla., Orville Penick of Antlers, Okla., Vernon Penick of Sulphur, Okla., and Cecil Penick of Antlers, Okla.; two sisters, Almeda Bicknell of Atoka, Okla., and Judy Sawyer of Antlers, Okla.; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 21 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Charles F. Krudwig officiating. Burial followed in Tushka cemetery, Tushka, Okla.
Joe Ross Martin
Joe Ross Martin, age 90, resident of Galveston, Tex., died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 at his home.
He was born May 21, 1914 in Monte Ne, Ark., to Frank Paul and Mary Paralee Lewis Martin; was an Army veteran of World War II; an officer in the Louisiana National Guard and Army Reserves, retiring as captain from the U.S. Army on May 21, 2974; retired as Division Engineer in 1983 from Kansas City Southern Railroad; was a Methodist; a Sunday school teacher; and a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Martha Martin Lauber; and three brothers, Arvil John Martin, Willie Frank Martin and Charles Albert Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillie Connilee McNully Martin of Galveston, Tex.; two sons, Larry Ross Martin of Galveston, Tex., and Joe Franklin Martin of Paris, France; two grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Houston National cemetery, Houston, Tex.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 in the Chapel at Edgewater Retirement Community, Galveston.
Elizabeth Farmer
Elizabeth Ann Farmer of Lucas, Texas, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Medical City in Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her father Ovea Noel Smith and her grandparents, Cecil and Ressie Baber.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Farmer of Lucas, her stepchildren, Michael Farmer and his wife, Denise, of Kemp, Bud Farmer and his wife, Michelle, and Kathy Lane and her husband, Jeff, all of Kaufman; eight grandchildren; her mother, Bonnie Jean Smith of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, Terry Lynn Smith and his wife, Cathy, of Umpire; two sisters, Donna Kesterson and Brenda Dominguez, both of Texarkana, Texas; a niece, Tonya Allison, and a nephew, Jason Allison, both of Texarkana, Texas; her great-niece, Reyann Ashalintubbie; and three great-nephews, Rodrick Steel, Justin Dominguez and Noel Hughes.
Services were held in the chapel of Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home in Mesquite, Texas at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2004 with Rev. George Weldon officiating. Another service was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks with Rev. Larry Allbritton officiating. Burial followed in the Athens cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Joshua Strickland
Joshua Strickland, age 23, resident of Redwater, Tex., and formerly of Horatio, died Tuesday, Nov. 16.
He was born Jan. 3, 1981 in Texarkana, Tex., was a former youth and music minister at First Baptist Church of Horatio; a graduate of Redwater High School; and attended East Texas Baptist University.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Ray Strickland; and his grandparents, J.B. and Erma Strickland and Audie and Louise Cummings.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Neil and Betty Floyd of Redwater, Tex.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 at First Baptist Church of Redwater with Rev. Steve Rice, Rev. Tim Reed, Rev. Tim Sullivan and Rev. Coy Arnold officiating. Burial followed in Redwater cemetery under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Red River Federal Credit Union.
Gladys Wray
Mrs. Gladys Pearl Teasley Wray, age 93, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, November 15, 2004 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 14, 1911 in Horatio. She was a homemaker, worked at the Rubber Corporation and was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ.
Mrs. Wray was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emma Wilson Teasley and her husband, W. D. Wray, Sr.
She is survived by one son, W. D. Wray, Jr. of Ashdown; one daughter, Mary Lou Pearce of De Queen; one sister, Helen Warfel of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Billy (Jody) Pearce, Sandy (Joe) Silvestri, Stacey Wray and Bethany (Ray) Roberson; two step-granddaughters, LeAnn Reed and Jodi Reed; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wray were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Van Ledbetter, minister, officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Ida cemetery.
Shanda Marie Diehle
Shanda Marie Leeper Diehle, age 42, resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2004 in Washington Regional Medical Center at Fayetteville.
She was born April 14, 1962 at De Queen to Darrell F. Sr. and Vada Rogers Leeper; was a member of Torrey Baptist Church in Fenton, Mich., and attended First Baptist Church of De Queen; and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Dana Leeper.
She is survived by her fiancee, Carl D. Smith of De Queen; three sons, Michael Diehle of Lapeer, Mich., and twins, D.J. and Thomas Tinsley of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; two brothers, Chip Leeper of Gillham and Joel Leeper of Grand Blanc, Mich.; two sisters, Charlotte Martin of Gillham and Kelly Schell of Shell Rock, Iowa; one niece; and two nephews.
The family will have a private memorial service.
Sammy Davis Whisenhunt
Sammy Edward Davis Whisenhunt, age 31, resident of Foreman, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 in New Boston, Tex.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced later by Wilkerson Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 11, 1972 in De Queen; and was a mechanic for Dots Rentals in Texarkana.
He is survived by one son, Dustin Chase Davis of Utah; his parents, Doyle and Doris Bush Whisenhunt of Foreman; six brothers, Charles Davis of Butler, Tenn., Harold Davis of Hollister, Mo., Dave Davis of Foreman, Danny Whisenhunt of Sacramento, Calif., Michael Whis-enhunt and Earnest Whisenhunt, both of Foreman; two sisters, Christine Miller of Butler, Tenn., and Penny Gardner of Foreman; his grandmother, Dorcus Bush; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23 in the Marvin cemetery in Foreman with Rev. Hershal Lee officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Connie T. Brewer
Connie T. Brewer, age 68, resident of Wickes, and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004 in Texarkana, Tex.
She was born Dec. 24, 1935 in Baltimore, Md.; was a payroll clerk for Mack Trucks of Hagerstown, Md., for 30 years, retiring in 1991; and attended Wickes Church of the Nazarene.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Quentin and Frances Fitz; and her maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Frances Spangler.
Sue is survived by three sisters, Carol Lichlyter and Ann Fitz, both of Wickes, and Terrie Rhodes of Orange Park, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5 in the Church of the Nazarene in Wickes with Tony Usery and Leon McClesky officiating. Burial will follow in the Grannis cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
